I was sold on Psycho Storm Chaser as soon as I read its synopsis. It reads: ‘An at-home care nurse must survive a category 3 hurricane as well as a storm chasing serial killer that uses storms to cover up his heinous crimes’. I was in luck too because the movie is nearly as dumb and ridiculous as that sounds.
That’s not to say I didn’t like it though. I know there are plenty of movie lovers that will read that synopsis and either decide they are not going to bother with the movie or they are watching it expecting to not enjoy it. I was hoping it would it least meet my relatively low expectations and have some fun with its own story.

Uber-prolific scream queen Jessica Cameron turns director for this, her feature-film debut, Truth or Dare. which sees six friends find internet stardom as the “Truth or Daredevils”, producing truth or dare videos with a violent twist. What starts out as fame, fun and games turns deadly when their number one fan decides he wants to join in the “fun” only this time they’ll be playing by his rules…
Who would have thought that a sweet-talking blonde Canadian girl could make such a nasty, mean-spirited horror film? Not me that’s for sure. It’s surprising to think that, given all the complaints of misogyny and sexism in horror that a female director could create such a misogynistic movie!

On July 4th, 2006, Dread Central opened its doors, and for nearly a decade now we've been bringing you constant horror content every day since. No holidays. No days off. We're always here, and we are always happy to do so. So it's with great pride that we wish you, our readers, a happy anniversary!
Being a writer in the web business is not easy. There are so many bumps along the way that it gets hard to remember the smoother patches. One thing that doesn't change, though, is how absolutely worth it it all is.
You guys give us a platform, and we do our best to honor that gift. We've made each other laugh, screamed over our disagreements (complete with Caps Lock On), and have learned so much from one another. Every day that we get to do this is a blessing, and in an industry where so many websites comes and go,...

First impressions are everything, which is why the art of the movie trailer has become the most vital tool in the film industry. A bad trailer can sour you on the best movie, but most of the time it’s the other way around. If Hollywood does anything right, it’s selling us a slow-cooked turd as delicious chocolate.
So here are Dread Central’s picks for great horror movie trailers that overshadowed their lesser films:
The Hills Have Eyes 2
Exciting trailers for bad movies are a dime a dozen, but what about the ones that are shot just for marketing? You won’t find a better example of an ad eclipsing a film than the brilliant teaser for The Hills Have Eyes 2. Completely wordless with only the sounds of dragging bodies and Devendra Banhart’s “Insect Eyes,” the teaser showed more artistry and directorial flare than anything in the actual movie.

Robert Englund calls it “a junior high school shop project from hell.” The man who played iconic horror villain Freddy Krueger in eight feature films isn’t talking about a poorly constructed student project like the block of wood I received an F+ for in 8th grade. Enlgund instead describes a weapon composed of razor-sharp steel and leather: Freddy Krueger’s bladed glove from A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984) and its seven sequels.
Crudely made in a boiler room that was Freddy’s own private hell on earth for children, the bladed glove is an iconic piece of horror cinema, and it’s just one of many topics from the Elm Street movies featured in directors Daniel Farrands and Andrew Kasch’s meticulous 2010 documentary film, Never Sleep Again: The Elm Street Legacy, which was released recently as a two-disc Collector’s Edition Blu-ray.

Although my three days as a glorified extra on the set of Big Ass Spider! were indeed grueling and it turns out I'm onscreen for just a blink-and-you'll-miss-it blip, it was fun. I just love being on set. Not only that, on Big Ass Spider! I was among friends.
My roommates were also extras (Andrew Kasch is Cocoon Victim #1 – below is a picture of us, snapped by Buz Wallick… not to mention Andrew’s cat, Frodo, getting more screen time than either of us).
I'd met the hero of whole shebang, Greg Grunberg, a number of times from the interview circuit when I worked for the Syfy Channel and covered "Heroes" endlessly. I made a new Bff in Lombardo Boyar, who is, in the film, my savior. So, in spite of driving the dreaded 405 freeway home each evening in peak traffic, covered in syrup and caked with dirt, every day was pure fun.

It's hard to believe seven years have passed since Dread Central opened its doors on July 4th, 2006, declaring our independence from those who were holding us back, but alas... it is so. This past year has been stranger than most, but truth be told, that's how we like it.

Same Shit, Different Show is usually a jovial podcast, informative and fun while offering fans various behind-the-scenes looks at all aspects of this crazy industry. We get that with Buz Danger's latest offering, too, and a whole lot more!
This week Buz sits down with Chromeskull himself, Nick Principe, for a good old genre discussion ranging from Nick's recent flick American Muscle to the Laid to Rest slasher duo. And without spoiling it, you'll also get a hilariously awful anecdote from the set of "Dexter". Those of you who frequent Dread Central will be delighted to know that it involves Miguel Prado himself, Jimmy Smits! Sadly, no one fucks anyone back, but don't let that deter you from listening!
Interested? Of course you are! So go on over to Buz's Same Shit, Different Show website (that's .biz, fyi) and dig it.

This week Buz sits down with Mike Mendez, director of The Convent and Gravedancers, for what begins as a lighthearted dialogue about his upcoming flick Mega Spider and winds up a cathartic therapy session for both men. There will be tears! Okay, maybe not, but it's a frank and honest discussion about the challenges of real relationships in the magical world of Hollyweird.
Head on over to Buz's Same Shit, Different Show website (that's .biz, fyi) and dig it.

Each time I see Jason Miller's name in the credits of anything, my first thought is of the great character actor and writer who made horror history as Father Damien Karras in The Exorcist. This isn't him (for obvious reasons). And that certainly doesn't make his stories any less interesting as this is possibly one of the most, um, colorful episodes of Same Shit, Different Show to date. So you owe it to yourself to listen!
This week's episode features an interview with producer/second unit director Jason Miller, involved with some of the genre's most fun modern-day fare: Hatchet II, Chillerama and Frozen. Miller and Buz chat about the 'business' in a conversation that leads to more than one hilarious behind-the-scenes anecdote.

Post-holiday blues got you down? Suffering from the Sunday night back-to-work shakes? Why not settle in for the night and allow your goodly host Buz "Danger" Wallick to treat you to another helping of his Same Shit, Different Show. It'll make everything better. Promise!
This week's episode features an interview with the writer/director of one of my favorite direct-to-video horror flicks of the past five years, the unfortunately titled Alien Raiders. Ben Rock joins Buz for some fast and furious industry chatter that leaves virtually no stone unturned when it comes to genre filmmaking.

With Halloween inching closer, what better time to talk to Halloween 6 scribe Dan Farrands than right now? Buz takes the initiative and sits down for an epic discussion with Dan on this week's Same Shit, Different Show. Grab a handful of candy corn, get your pumpkin beer and let the good times roll!
This is a long one, folks. Clocking in at a staggering 2 hours and 20 minutes, it's a great listen because Farrands is always a likable and passionate genre fan. He discusses his horror beginnings and goes in-depth on the much maligned Curse of Michael Myers (fuck off, I love it).

This week's episode of Same Shit, Different Show involves a guest that DC readers/listeners are already more than familiar with. And while you may hear Buz and Andrew Kasch on a monthly basis via Dinner For Fiends, this is an entirely different kind of conversation - and every bit as entertaining.
From Buz's site: "This week's guest is one of my dearest friends, Andrew Kasch, whom I owe most of my career too (along with Jon Condit, and Steve Barton). This is another super long episode, so be prepared for a download. So kick back, relax, and enjoy two friends discussing all the different times we’ve almost died trying to make it in this damn town."
It's a casual and candid conversation ranging from lucky breaks to the juggernaut project known as Never Sleep Again, with lots of laughs and fun along the way.

With the weekend being close enough to taste, our own Buz Wallick's Same Shit, Different Show is quickly becoming a ritualistic Thursday night listen. Crack a beer, sit back, and relax because there's a lot of genre stuff that needs dissecting!
From Buz's site: Today’s guest is the always fascinating John Skipp, co-author of The Bridge, The Light at the End, and Book of the Dead among other excellent titles. He’s also the screenwriter behind Nightmare on Elm Street 5 and is currently putting together his directorial debut Rose.
This episode is definitely a long one, but it was just too cool of a convo to cut out what I left in ... and trust me I cut some pretty good stuff.

After Dark Films recently announced its partnership with Silver Pictures and legendary producer Joel Silver to launch a brand-new cutting edge brand of five thrillers that feature performances by a new generation of badass action stars including Wes Chatham, Sean Faris, Michael Jai White, Scott Adkins, James Frain and Cung Le.
While at the San Diego-Comic Con last month, Dread Central’s Buz Wallick had the opportunity to chat with actor Frain about his upcoming After Dark project called Transit, a gritty crime thriller about a group of criminals stalking a vacationing family who unknowingly have the bad guys’ cash inside the trunk of their car.
Frain might be best known around these parts as Franklin Mott in Season Three of “True Blood” who captured and tortured Rutina Wesley’s Tara Thornton over several episodes. He’s also appeared in several other genre-related projects including the cult classic television series...

Call this writer the eternal optimist, but I had high hopes when the first Ghost Rider hit theaters back in 2007. Of course those hopes were quickly dashed once I saw the film, but regardless of how well it did, there were two things clear from the start- Nicolas Cage relishes being a badass, and he was practically born to play this role.
It definitely seems like the second time might be the charm for this franchise because everything we’ve seen so far, including during the 2011 San Diego Comic-Con, for the upcoming Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance looks like the directing duo of Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor (the maniacal geniuses behind the Crank series) have finally gotten the badass formula right in bringing the story of Johnny Blaze to life, and in glorious 3D to boot.

Between this announcement and the announcement of Jaws hitting Blu-ray, our own Buz Wallick is likely to explode with glee (masturbating feverishly, of course). That's right, kids! Word has broken about four flicks ready to make their high definition debut!
According to The Digital Bits, Universal here in the States Has confirmed to them that the Jurassic Park Trilogy is being prepared for Blu-ray Disc release, probably late this year, in time for the holidays. Seriously, there is a God. At least when it comes to long awaited home video releases. Speaking of which ...
Shock Till You Drop got the early word that Hellbound: Hellraiser II is being readied for an HD release courtesy of those lovable loonies over at Image Entertainment. No word on special features yet, but hey, it's Image. They rarely disappoint!
Stay tuned for more on all of these goodies soon, including official announcements.

Here it is, folks. The news that will be having our very own Buz Wallick masturbating until the product is in his hands ... word has come directly from Steven Spielberg regarding one of his classics hitting Blu-ray high definition.
During an interview with AICN, Spielberg dropped the following news on chum-hungry fans ...
"There’s going to be no more digital enhancements or digital additions to anything based on any film I direct," said Spielberg in regard to what kind of transfer we can expect from the Blu-ray. "I’m not going to do any corrections digitally to even wires that show... At this point right now I think letting movies exist in the era, with all the flaws and all of the flourishes, is a wonderful way to mark time and mark history."
Amen to that. Look for the flick in stores sometime in the near future. In the interim...

It's hard to believe that just four years ago we were nothing more than a splash page placeholder with the promise that "The Dread Shall Rise", and rise we did. Not on our own though. If we stand tall at all, it's because we stand on the shoulders of you guys, our readers.
This is gonna be a little on the self-indulgent side so please bear with me.
We've been through a whole lot together. From working at different websites to enduring what amounted to a volcanic Internet eruption to living for this moment ... right now ... this second as we officially turn four years old on July 4th.
One person I would be completely remiss in not mentioning is our brother Johnny Butane, who helped start all of this madness you see before you. He will always be missed -- and for those curious the last we heard, he was doing just fine.

This past Saturday, May 15th, Dread hit the road from La to Vegas, and sometime between playing fetch with a border collie over Bloody Marys in a dilapidated desert bar in Yermo and winding up with a gastro-intestinal malady (Sin City is apparently full of germs), this writer swung by The Polly Staffle Grindhouse Fest at the Sci-Fi Center for the world premieres of director Creep Creepersin’s features Orgy of Blood, Vaginal Holocaust, and Caged Lesbos A-Go-Go.

Never Sleep Again, catchy right?
Never Sleep Again: The Nightmare Legacy, is an incomparably comprehensive catalogue of Freddy Krueger’s ascension from dream to phenomenon. An obvious labor of devotion and passion, Never Sleep Again serves less as a companion piece to whatever Nightmare on Elm Street bonus material you may already have on the shelf, and more as an engaging detailer of myth and legend in its own right. Through countless, immaculately constructed interviews and strikingly implemented supplements, Never Sleep Again has as much the feel of a piece of narrative filmmaking as it does that of a documentary. In essence, it’s a documentary worth spending time and money on. Crazy, right?
Every element of the production has an air of preparedness to it that rivals any work of Hollywood fiction. A hundred yarns of tire and heartbreak are sewn in the interview portions. Its breathtaking claymation sequences...

Dread Central recently caught up with director, musician, screenwriter, and actor Creep Creepersin - the man behind such B-feature romps as Orgy of Blood and Vaginal Holocaust - to find out what he’s been up to, and it seems that the historically prolific amount of macabre material leaking from his sleeve hasn’t ebbed one bit given his current productions.
“I’m doing Brides of Sodom with Domiziano Arcangeli’s new company, Empire Films, and Sterling Entertainment,” Creepersin, who’s currently shooting the flick over the course of eight days in Southern California, told us. “This is one of the biggest projects that Sterling or myself have had anything to do with. It’s a post-apocalyptic vampire film. We are shooting on two Reds and trying to come up with some weird trick photography shit. It’s gonna be a lot like Orgy of Blood but a little bit more like an Argento-dream sequence.

It's been a long time coming for those of us who have been following the progress of the short film called "Thirsty" since its inception, but we're pleased to announce that it will be having its world premiere this Friday, August 7th, at midnight, during the 13th annual Rhode Island International Film Festival. Way to go, guys!
"Thirsty" is a horror-comedy that chronicles a slacker on his cross-country drive along a lonely desert highway. As a massive heat wave rolls in, only one thing can quench his monstrous thirst: a delicious frozen beverage. But first he must dodge a series of bizarre obstacles and ultimately survive the night...
Based on the short story of the same name from cult horror author Joe Knetter (Zombie Bukkake, review here), "Thirsty" stars Joe Lynch (director of Wrong Turn 2), Tiffany Shepis (Night of the Demons), and Michael Bailey Smith (The Hills Have Eyes...

Never mind that silly rumored November release date. Lionsgate has announced a July 14th bow for their box office success, The Haunting in Connecticut.
DVD Active reports that the film will be available in an extended cut on both Blu-ray and DVD. Extra features are as follows:
Audio commentary with director Peter Cornwell, co-writer Adam Simon, producer Andrew Trapani, and editor Tom Elkins Audio commentary with the director and actors Virginia Madsen and Kyle Gallner Deleted scenes with optional director commentary Featurettes: "Two Dead Boys: Making of The Haunting in Connecticut", "The Fear is Real: Re-Investigating the Haunting", "Memento Mori: The History of Post Mortem Photography", “Anatomy of a Haunting" Digital copy of the film Looks like a decent haul of supplementary material (put together by our own Andrew Kasch, David Rosiak, and Buz Wallick) to keep horror fans in out of the sweltering summer heat.
