Director Baltasar Kormakur Talks 2 Guns Starring Denzel Washington and Mark Wahlberg

28 November 2012 5:41 PM, PST | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

One of the many films opening next summer is director Baltasar Kormákur's (The Deep, Contraband) 2 Guns.  Based on the Boom! Studios Graphic Novels by Steven Grant, 2 Guns is an action flick that stars Denzel Washington and Mark Wahlberg as operatives from competing government bureaus who are disavowed and forced to go on the run together after a mission goes wrong.  The film also stars Paula Patton, Bill Paxton, James Marsden, Fred Ward and Edward James Olmos. Recently I sat down with Kormákur for an extended video interview and he gave me an update on the project.  He says he's trying to get Clinton Shorter to do the score, he's in the middle of editing (he's turning in his director's cut around Christmas) and the current cut is about 2 hours 10 minutes, trimmed down from 2 hours 25 minutes.  When I asked him to describe the film, he pitched it as a pulpy »

The film will be directed by Contraband helmer Baltasar Kormákur, and in the following video interview, James Marsden talks about being beaten up by the two leads. "I play a Navy Commander to Mark Wahlberg's Navy Seal and it's called 2 Guns. There's a lot of firing pistols and RPG's and it's a big blow 'em up movie. There's a lot of fight scenes which is very different for me because, you know, I'm »

Just last month, we brought you the news when James Marsden (Red Machine) joined the cast of Universal Pictures forthcoming adaptation of 2 Guns, as as a naval commander, opposite Mark Wahlberg (Contraband) and Denzel Washington (Safe House).

Now, Variety reports that Fred Ward (30 Minutes or Less, Tremors) has joined the cast of director Baltasar Kormakur (Contraband) adaptation of Steven Grant and Mat Santolouco‘s comic series as a top-ranking U.S. Navy admiral.

Boom! Studios Synopsis for 2 Guns:

Trench figures it’s a great way to score — considering it’s a cover for mob money. They’ll be thieves ripping off thieves. But what Steadman doesn’t know is that Trench is a DEA agent. Fred Ward Joins Denzel Washington And Mark Walhberg In 2 Guns

23 July 2012 8:35 PM, PDT | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

Based on Steven Grant's comic book, 2 Guns is an upcoming action movie starring Denzel Washington and Mark Walhberg. It's fitting that the two actors are finally making a film together since they've kind of become kings of the generic thriller, with this year's Contraband and Safe House serving as perfect examples. Oddly enough, this actioner also combines the latter's cinematographer, Oliver Wood, with the former's director, Baltasar Kormakur, so if you liked both of those films, 2 Guns could be a dream come true. Universal has assembled a pretty good cast to support Washington and Walhberg, including Paula Patton, Edward James Olmos, Bill Paxton, James Marsden and, according to Variety, Fred Ward is in the mix as well. Ward was last seen in Ruben Fleischer's 30 Minutes or Less but, for me, he'll always be Earl from Tremors or Gus Grissom from The Right Stuff. The gruff and grizzled acting »

Keith Carradine Joins Rooney Mara In ‘Saints’; Fred Ward Adds ’2 Guns’ With Denzel Washington

23 July 2012 2:51 PM, PDT | The Film Stage | See recent The Film Stage news »

In the business of older white male character actors getting jobs, we’ve got two this afternoon. First up, with production beginning on the drama thriller Ain’t Them Bodies Saints, Keith Carradine has been added to the impressive ensemble already including Rooney Mara, Casey Affleck, Ben Foster and Nate Parker.

Newcomer David Lowery will make his debut here, in the tale of an escaped convict in the ’70s named Bob Muldoon (Affleck) who must confront a dark past in order to reunite with his wife (Mara) and daughter. There’s no news on who Carradine will play, but the actor is always a welcome addition. Here’s hoping that Lowery can succeed off the bat, as he’s surely already got the cast to back him up.

We’ve also got news from Variety that Fred Ward has joined the ensemble of the actioner 2 Guns, set to be directed by Contraband‘s Baltasar Kormákur, »

First Look at Denzel Washington in 2 Guns

29 June 2012 4:19 PM, PDT | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

The first unofficial images of Denzel Washington, shiny of tooth and spiffy of hat, on the set of 2 Guns have made it to the Web.  Based on the pulpy Steven Grant comic, it stars Washington as Trench (a DEA agent) and Mark Wahlberg as Steadman (a naval officer), who team up to rip off the mob.  Neither realizes the other is undercover nor that they’re actually being set up to steal from the CIA.  Wahlberg’s Contraband director Baltasar Kormakur is helming the pic, which is described (in the novel, at least) as “a light-hearted crime romp in the vein of Ocean’s Thirteen and The Italian Job.”  The solid supporting cast includes Edward James Olmos as a villainous drug lord, Paula Patton as Washington’s fellow DEA agent and love interest, Bill Paxton as a high-ranking CIA operative and James Marsden as a naval commander.
