Alison Carroll was born 1985 in Croydon, England. She got into gymnastics at the age of 7 with dreams of becoming a future PE teacher. At the age of 12 she joined Shirley Gymnastics Club and went on to attend Edenham High.

After she finished high school she became a certified Club Coach in acrobatics and gymnastics. She started coaching junior gymnastics and choreographed the routine for the junior team that won the British National Championships.

She continued participating in annual performances in gymnastic displays such as the Edinburgh Festival, Inverness Festival, Liverpool British Championships, Cardiff Festival, London Festival, Birmingham Ministrada, and Portugal World Ministrada (representing Great Britain).

While she was working in a London based golf club as a receptionist and teaching at Shirley Gymnastics Club, she attended the auditions for the part of Lara Croft, completing against hundreds of other girls. After auditions were finished, she was later told she got the role but wasn't allowed to tell anyone. The official public announcement was on August 11 when they started promoting the game Tomb Raider: Underworld, which will be released in November 08.

She immediately began taking a series of courses that included SAS survival, combat and semi-automatic weapons training in Eastern Europe, and a crash course in world archeology. Her promotional work will continue with travels to South Africa, Germany, Dubai, and Singapore.
