As the former Miss Trinidad and Tobago, Anya Ayoung-Chee was already recognized internationally for her beauty. But now the Project Runway Season 9 winner wants the beautiful things she creates to find their way overseas.

Throughout the competition, the designer inspired viewers with her can-do attitude. She decided to pursue her fashion dreams after the tragic death of her brother Pilar. Project Runway Picks A Winner That Can’t Make Sleeves

28 October 2011 10:52 AM, PDT | BestWeekEver | See recent BestWeekEver news »

After last season’s pick of Gretchen as a winner — she who made smallpox chic again! — we were sort of “over” Project Runway. For like a day. Because come on, obviously I will tune in to every season until the day they pick Nazi Chic as a winner. And even then I wouldn’t blame them because those knee high black boots! They flatter all shapes and Nazis. But still, just because I will watch every season no questions asked doesn’t mean I’m not going to bitch about the winner. So let’s talk about last night’s episode. The final four were elated to show at New York’s Most Of Us Can’t Afford A Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. Yes, Kimberly Goldson, Viktor Luna, Anya Ayoung-Chee and Josh McKinley were all put through to the big runway day (along with probably all the other “decoy” contestants in »

Four designers - Anya Ayoung-Chee, Joshua McKinley, Kimberly Goldson and Viktor Luna -battled it out on the catwalk during the Season 9 finale of "Project Runway" on Thursday with a surprise winner taking the title.

Spolier Alert: After weeks of challenges, countless trips to Mood and plenty of catty comments from her competitors, Anya - the most inexperienced finalist (she only learned to sew a few months before the competition) - took home the $100,000 prize, a spread in Marie Claire magazine and the opportunity to sell a collection on Piperlime.

Anya got off to a shaky start ...

"Project Runway Season Nine Finale:" And The Winner Is ...

28 October 2011 9:09 AM, PDT | The Backlot | See recent The Backlot news »

Last night was the Season Finale of Project Runway, and as soon as it was over, I couldn't help but take to Twitter to squawk.

I'm going to try to refrain, but I'm not making any promises.

Let's face it ... this season stunk.

Well, there were a few bright spots.

We got to know the extremely likable and charismatic Anthony, as well as the alien cipher Olivier. Bert had an interesting backstory, and on every episode we learned that Josh's mother died.

What else? Umm ... Oh, remember that time Kim got scared of the roach and jumped on the table? That was pretty funny ...

Okay, I admit it. I'm stalling so I don't have to talk about what happened on the finale. But we may as well get it over with.

So the four finalists hit Fashion Week, and showed their designs. So how did each one fare? Let's find out. »

'Project Runway': Anya Ayoung-Chee takes the title

27 October 2011 9:10 PM, PDT | Zap2It - From Inside the Box | See recent Zap2It - From Inside the Box news »

The season finale of "Project Runway" offered a lot less behind-the-scenes drama than we've become accustomed to. But really Thursday's (Oct. 27) episode was all about the clothes and who would win the grand prize.

The four contestants - Anya, Kimberly, Joshua and Viktor - scrambled to get their pieces together for Fashion Week. This presented quite the challenge. Coming out of last week, each designer had an opportunity to reassess what they're doing and incorporate feedback from each of the judges. Luckily they had a shopping spree at fabric store and $500 to spend.

As the deadline drew near, Tim Gunn met with the finalists and began perusing their collections. It was at this time that Gunn offered the harshest criticism to Joshua for over thinking what he was doing.

"The critique with Tim has had my mind spinning for hours," Joshua says.

Anya was working up until the last second. »

See the Winning "Project Runway" Collection!

Beauty queen Anya Ayoung-Chee can add another title to her list of accomplishments. The former Miss Trinidad and Tobago was named the winner of "Project Runway" Season 9, beating out finalists Joshua McKinley , Viktor Luna , and Kimberly Goldson . Anya came into the competition with the a great eye but one huge disadvantage: she only had been sewing for four months. She proved to be a resourceful competitor challenge after challenge. Her most impressive win (aside from Thursday night's) came midseason, when she lost her fabric money and had to use change and leftover scraps to pull together a '70s-inspired look. Anya's final collection was Caribbean chic, flowly and feminine (see her winning collection above). Judges Heidi Klum , Michael Kors , Nina Garcia , and L'Wren Scott praised her eye for beautiful prints but said it was one-note (as we had correctly predicted ). Despite this, the judges admired her consistent point of view »

'Project Runway' recap: Finale part one designs - pictures

21 October 2011 9:12 AM, PDT | Digital Spy | See recent Digital Spy - Movie News news »

Project Runway's remaining four designers began the penultimate episode of the season with a $$9,000 budget and just five weeks to collect a ten-piece collection. Tim Gunn spent the episode visiting each of the designers at their individual homes to check in on their progress. First up was Kimberly Goldson in White Plains, MD, who is inspired by the pre-gentrified Brooklyn of her childhood. She wants her collection to "elevate" the Brooklyn girl in the way that she elevated herself. Tim thinks it's all very "her" but advises her to take some risks and wow the judges. Next up for Tim is a trip to Maraval in Trinidad to visit Anya Ayoung-Chee, who has been inspired by scuba diving and the ocean. She's a bit nervous though because she's only got the fabrics sorted rather than any items made - and, as expected, Tim advises (more) »

"Project Runway:" The Filler Episode

21 October 2011 8:12 AM, PDT | The Backlot | See recent The Backlot news »

Last night was part one of the finale show on Project Runway, which means it's the episode that's completely unnecessary.

The only interesting part of these penultimate episodes is when Tim visits the finalists in their homes, but that could be easily incorporated into the real finale.

And after 90 minutes of hearing Heidi say , "One of you will be out, One of you will be out, one of you will be out," guess what? No one is out.

So what was the point?

As soon as Kimberly was chosen as the third designer, I knew they were gonna pull the "Oh, you're all so fabulous, we decided everyone goes on" trick, and sure enough, Anya was spared.

Ugh. Anyway, let's a look at each designer, and what they had to offer the judges this week.

'Project Runway' finale at Fashion Week: A handful of hits and so many misses

9 September 2011 4:25 PM, PDT | Pop2it | See recent Pop2it news »

New York -- Fashion Week and TV came together Friday (Sept. 9) at Lincoln Center for "Project Runway's" finale, with nine designers presenting their collections, ranging from the elegant to the strange.

Though no one theme ruled the runway, the event featured an abundance of flowing clothes; some accessorized with blue wrists and gladiator cuff bracelets. Metallic dresses and shorts remain popular as do completely sheer tops. Apparently, for now, bras and camisoles are out.

"We have been very tough on them, especially me, so I have learned," host and "Project Runway" judge Heidi Klum -- stunning in a backless, black sequined halter and pants -- says of this season's assortment of contestants.

Up first was Laura Kathleen. Like many of the designers, she mentions how seeing her creations on the catwalk is a lifelong ambition.

"I've been dreaming about this moment since I was 13," Kathleen says, explaining that her collection is for "everyday women. »

Jennifer Love Hewitt, Malin Akerman & More Stars Step Out For ‘Project Runway’ Season 9 Finale Show!

The finalists of ‘Project Runway’ prepared for the biggest moment of their careers this afternoon. Lucky for them, tons of supportive stars stepped out to watch these up-and-coming designers present their amazing spring collections!

Jennifer Love Hewitt, Malin Akerman and Heidi Klum are among of the few A-listers who sat front row at the show.

Heidi looked stunning, donning a black-sequins jumpsuit as she judged the season 9 finale of Project Runway.

But the real stars were the designers who have been competing all year to win Project Runway. Anya Ayoung-Chee rocked the stage showing off an array of wild prints inspired by her Spanish hometown, Port-of-Spain the capital of Republic of Trinidad and Tobago.

Finalist Olivier Green‘s collection was very futuristic — along with her models! And Bert Keeter‘s collection was very chic and sleek!

But overall Kimberly Goldson‘s clothes were a crowd’s favorite. Her collection was »
