Dua Lipa says that she’s “never heard” the disco tracks at the centre of a copyright infringement lawsuit alleging she copied her 2020 hit “Levitating”.
In March this year, songwriters L Russell Brown and Sandy Linzer accused the 27-year-old pop star of plagiarising their 1979 song “Wiggle and Giggle All Night” and another 1980 track “Don Diablo”, which Brown and Linzer now own after proving it infringed on “Wiggle”.
In a letter to a federal judge in New York, obtained by Billboard on Tuesday (30 August), Lipa’s lawyer have asked that the lawsuit be dismissed immediately, on the grounds that she’s “never heard” either of the songs that the plaintiffs allege she copied,
In the filing, Lipa’s attorney Chritine Lepera wrote: “The complaint alleges defendants purportedly had access to ‘Wiggle’ and ‘Don Diablo’ because they both ‘can be found on popular streaming services’.

Dua Lipa and her lawyers have fired their opening salvo in her “Levitating” legal battle, telling a federal judge in New York that the superstar singer had no access or exposure to the pair of disco tracks named in a copyright infringement lawsuit filed in March, so the case should be rejected.

Scottish soul singer Emeli Sandé has returned with a staggering new anthem, “Sparrow.”
The track boasts another powerhouse vocal performance from Sandé, who starts the song with a soft croon that flutters over a delicate blend of piano and chimes. But “Sparrow” changes in an instant, the rumble of a cymbal introducing a full gospel choir that backs up Sandé as she flies forward over marching drums and a sweeping orchestral arrangement. “Yeah, we’re gonna take the long, the long way home,” Sandé belts, “Oh, we’re gonna take the world,...

After wrapping up his debut headlining Us tour last month, Don Diablo is gearing up for his first official release of 2017 as he teases his upcoming single “Switch.” During the latest episode of Hexagon Radio, the Dutch DJ took the opportunity to kick off the mix with the new tune, which is set to arrive later next week.
“Switch” arrives as a scorching club tune, starting off with an extended intro as Don Diablo builds up the energy with rhythmic arpeggios and ominous bass stabs. As the music grows in intensity, the producer takes us into the drop as he introduces shuffling house rhythms paired against rowdy pitch shifted synth riffs.
With his latest effort, Don Diablo is primed to get 2017 off to a strong start. With a carefully crafted production and plenty of firepower for the dancefloors, “Switch” arrives as another strong offering from the Hexagon Records head honcho...

DJ Snake is set to have one of the most remixed singles of the year as he reveals yet another version of his hit “Let Me Love You.” The song has already became the subject of reworks courtesy of Tiësto, Marshmello, Don Diablo and Zedd, only to be reformed yet again yesterday with a vocal edit courtesy of R. Kelly. Now, Jamaican vocalist Sean Paul has become the latest artist to offer up his own rendering of “Let Me Love You.”
Like R. Kelly’s version, the Sean Paul rendition of “Let Me Love You” is closer to a vocal edit than a true remix. The background music and production remain unchanged, with Justin Bieber’s vocals removed in the verses to make way for Sean Paul’s recognizable rap delivery.

Zedd‘s remix of DJ Snake‘s “Let Me Love You” remix has finally arrived today, following up on reworks courtesy of Tiësto, Marshmello and Don Diablo. The Grammy award winning producer first teased his remix of the song in November and fans have been patiently waiting ever since. Thankfully, the wait is finally over, and the results of Zedd’s remix are impressive to say the least.
The producer opens his take on the track with cascading synth chords layered under Justin Bieber’s recognizable crooning. He then takes some interesting twists and turns, moving from stripped down verses to intense build ups that lead into jaunty drops complete with exotic melodies, looping hand percussion rhythms and glitchy electronic elements.
Out of all the “Let Me Love You” remixes, Zedd‘s is easily the most adventurous as he injects his own personality into the tune. While Bieber’s vocals are prominently placed throughout,...

Earlier in the week, we heard a preview of what is presumed to be Zedd‘s remix of “Let Me Love You,” and now Don Diablo is sharing a teaser of his own remix of the song ahead of its release.
The producer tested out his “Let Me Love You” remix during a recent gig, giving us our first preview of his version of the song. When Marshmello first teased his remix of DJ Snake and Justin Bieber’s hit single “Let Me Love You” back in October, it immediately sparked speculation from fans that a remix Ep dedicated to the collaboration was on the way. Not long after, we got official versions of the song from both Tiësto and Marshmello, and now DJ Snake has dropped a new teaser for what is believed to be Zedd‘s previously announced remix.
Though the remix hasn’t been officially confirmed as belonging to Zedd, fans of the producer’s work will be able to recognize a few of his hallmark sounds here, including splashy electro-chords, rushing snares and whining leads. The clip is only ten seconds long, so we’re left with just a brief taste of what’s to come, but it’ll no doubt be enough to get listeners excited for the next version of “Let Me Love You.

The plot for the “Let Me Love You” follows two lovers as they pull off a string of heists, with a DJ Snake mask being used a disguise in the process. With the 2016 festival season nearly in full swing, releasing the right track is all a producer needs to capitalize on the fervor of electronic music fans. Quintino received some major support for his R3HAB collaboration in March, and he’s followed it up by joining forces with L.A. trio Cheat Codes on the main stage-ready “Can’t Fight It.”
A top line by an as-yet unidentified vocalist is underscored by pillowy synths in the first several measures of the arrangement. The percussive elements then build up to melodic drop whose Don Diablo-esque synth lead shies away from the larger-than-life grandeur that came to define Edm in recent years.
As a whole, the production offers little to differentiate it from similar tracks on the market. However, the vocals are memorable enough that “Can’t Fight It” might gain traction for their merit alone.

Dutch DJ and producer Don Diablo took to Soundcloud over the weekend to share a preview for an upcoming single titled “Drifter” featuring rapper Dyu. The preview for the track is brief, but we can already tell that it will be an explosive release for Diablo.

The “Drifter” preview opens with a driving snare rush and pitch twisted vocal samples, building up to a dizzying frenzy leading into the drop. It seems to be another deep house track from Diablo, featuring offbeat future bass stabs intersected by a pounding four on the floor beat.
“Drifter” is set for release via Spinnin’ Records on May 30, so the brief introduction to the upcoming track will have to hold fans over until the official release next week.

Oliver Heldens has refined his gimmick down to a science by now. At this point, all he’s gotta do is slap a collaborator’s name on whatever new version of essentially the same bass line he’s cranked out, give it a quirky animal-related name like “Space Sheep,” and then presumably continue practicing shuffling until his next gig.
Heldens’ live debut of this track at Ultra Music Festival last month created some confusion, as he played it with Don Diablo onstage during its premiere. However, the song is in fact a collaboration with Chocolate Puma, as can be gleaned by its distinct bass house leaning.
A high-quality version of Oliver Heldens and Chocolate Puma’s “Space Sheep” will be available through Heldeep Records on May 2nd. For now, though, take a listen to the SoundCloud player above and let us know what you think by dropping a comment below.

Don Diablo hatched a genius plan for his upcoming release: He’s only teased the good part. For how successful of a year 2015 turned out to be for him, the Hexagon Records label head’s own productions are prone to eccentricities that render them nearly unlistenable – but this clip of his Dave Thomas Jr. collaboration, “Silence,” is too short to get to that part.
After all, tracks like “On My Mind” and “Tonight” at least keep you interested until the melody at the drop wages a full-on assault on your senses. In the segment of “Silence” that Don Diablo has previewed, however, you only hear Thomas’ crisp vocals underscored by a simple yet elegant piano melody.
And for that matter, for all I know “Silence” could be the first Don Diablo track that doesn’t fill me with a violent, burning hatred. I can’t say that I’m holding out hope,...

I keep questioning whether I’ve been too unfairly critical of Don Diablo over the months – then he releases something new to justify my vitriol. “Tonight” must be a sign that Spinnin’ Records is imploding, because even though he puts out non-music like this he stands among their fastest-rising artists in 2015, while more deserving DJ/producers leave the label in droves.
The common theme in every Don Diablo track is that each buildup is passable, but then it spills into a future house drop that falls too far outside the confines of what makes sense melodically. “Tonight” fits this trend to a T. The breakbeat percussion and clubby vocal samples hooked me for several measures, only to completely betray me with a bass line that could have sufficed at being cliché but instead went the extra mile to be patently absurd. I suppose I’ve got another year of ridiculing Don Diablo ahead of me.

If by remixing a track an artist manages to improve upon the original, then it’s safe to say they’ve done their job well. Ben Zamora may not have had the most challenging source material considering what Tiësto and Don Diablo released in the form of “Chemicals” last summer, but what he’s turned out is worthy of praise nonetheless.
While not deviating far from the future house inclination of the original, Zamora’s remix blends the melodies of the verse and break far more effectively. A more gravelly modulation of the synth is accompanied by pitch-shifted cuts of Thomas Troelsen’s iconic vocal leading up to the drop, which hints at the chord progression of the source material while functioning better in the context of the arrangement as a whole.

It’s that time of year when electronic music industry-leading download platform Beatport announces its Best of Beatport frontrunners. While last week saw a peculiar dichotomy in the Top Selling Tracks category, this week they’ve revealed the leading breakthrough artists and labels of 2015.
As far as breakout artists are concerned, Curbi, Joe Stone, Marshmello, Alison Wonderland and Ephwurd topped the list with the labels Owsla and Spinnin’ both seeing the most representation. In the category of breakout labels, Don Diablo’s Hexagon imprint claimed first place with Magic Trooper, Darklight Recordings, Playbox and Heldeep Recordings following.
As we’ve mentioned before, Beatport downloads do not necessarily reflect the overall popularity of an artist or label. Most music fans discover new music from streaming services like SoundCloud or Spotify, and as far as electronic music is concerned, the market for live events still towers over the whole of the recording...

At long last, DJ Mag has unveiled their top 100 DJs list of 2015. While this year’s results made for a predictable, cross section of the mainstream Edm talent pool’s most accomplished echelon, perhaps nothing spoke to the state of the scene as much as the #1 entry.
Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike secured the #1 spot for the first time in their career, all but proving that contemporary dance music is more manufactured than it’s ever been at any point throughout its history. The two artists are famous for enlisting the services of ghostwriters like Maarten Vorwerk to assist in their productions, and engaged in notoriously aggressive marketing campaigns to drum up votes.
More than ever, the results simply prove that the rankings are more for which artists have the biggest marketing budgets than anything else.

Remember that time Don Diablo blew us all away with an amazing new remix? No? Oh, that’s right, neither do I.
It seems like every Edm artist under the sun has remixed something by Florence + the Machine over the past few years, but very rarely do any of them do it justice. The most recent producer to step up to the plate is Don Diablo, who teamed up with new kid on the block Khrebto for this entirely forgettable rendition of “You’ve Got The Love” (which itself is a cover of a song of its namesake by The Source featuring Candi Staton).
Curiously, no reference is even made to the source material on the SoundCloud upload, even though a pitch-shifted version of the iconic vocal in its near entirety sets the tone of the entire track. What Don Diablo and Khrebto do bring to the conversation is an...

Who isn’t Tiësto collaborating with these days? Hot on the heels of his track with Don Diablo, the international superstar DJ/producer has released a main stage banger from Firebeatz through his Musical Freedom imprint – but not before leaving an imprint of his own on the production.
“Sky High” features the grandiose synth work and chugging rhythms characteristic of a big room house anthem. A crystalline upswell builds into the track’s iconic synth lead before segueing into a barbaric drop basically engineered for festival main stages.
While it’s difficult to pinpoint the exact points where Tiësto‘s edit on the track begins and ends, it’s easy to unofficially attribute the pitch bending on the synth lead to him since it sounds stylistically similar to what we’ve heard on tracks like his and Kshmr’s “Secrets.” Although it’s already been played out considerably in the...

Tiësto and Kshmr’s “Secrets” has turned out to be the most memorable track put out by either artist this year, but Don Diablo‘s version falls just a bit short of paying it justice. Time and time again I’ve aired my grievances with the Dutchman, and he’s given me reason to blast him once again.
In case you haven’t noticed, though, the common theme in all of Don Diablo’s disasters is that they start out sounding like quality tracks. In the case of his “Secrets” remix, the pitch-shifted vocals effectively accompany a unique new arrangement with a bass house leaning – but a high-pitched melody before the drop steps outside the range of what its synths really ought to be used for. It really is just a matter of overproduction; most of the remix makes for a quality piece of music until that one part stretches it out too far.

Edx has returned with another deep, sexy edition of his No Xcuses podcast. It’s been several months since we premiered one of these shows for the Swiss DJ/producer, and this edition of the series features a number of quality tracks.
In this instalment, Edx spares no expenses in getting the party started, kicking the mix off with his Miami Sunset remix of Spada’s “Catchfire.” His rendition makes for a powerful reimagining of the original, priming the listener’s ears for what’s to follow. The track can also be streamed or downloaded on its own.
Other memorable moments on the mix include Night Safari’s “Daylight to Midnight” and Hi-lo’s “Renegade Mastah,” as well as three IDs about which concrete details have yet to surface. As always, the whole of the mix rides a fine line between club-friendly house music sensibilities and high-energy Edm.

I hate to be the one to rain on the Edm world’s collective parade, but I hate it even worse when supposedly world-class artists dump mediocre material on their fans.
Superstar DJ/producer Tiësto played Tomorrowland in Belgium last weekend, and premiered a new collaboration with his fellow Dutchman, Don Diablo. No joke – I had to open up Don Diablo’s latest release and listen to both of them side by side to make sure they didn’t have the exact same drop.
The ID in the video above – which is currently making its rounds on social media under the working title “Chemicals” – features a powerful, memorable vocal that gives it instant main stage appeal. A signature Tiësto synth lead builds up to an invigorating upswell, but then segues into what sounds almost identical to the drop from Don Diablo’s “On My Mind,” clashing substantially with everything else in the arrangement.

Jesus, Don Diablo, walk it back a little bit.
We’ve come to expect the everything-but-the-kitchen-sink style of future/progressive/electro house pioneered by Don Diablo, but there’s still such a thing as being too eclectic. The Dutch DJ/producer has released “On My Mind” through Spinnin’ Records this week and, well, it’s kinda got a lot going on.
It starts off promising enough, with a soulful vocal and atmospheric squelch effect setting an upbeat tone for the rest of the production. Once the rubbery future house organ synths kick in, a horn section blaring out over them is a bit distracting – but again, this is Don Diablo, so you kind of expect elements of the arrangement to be over the top.
Then, the ludicrous keyboard solo arrives to assault your senses. I’m not sure if Diablo had a mescaline flashback and momentarily thought he was writing...

Released on Spinnin’ Deep this week was the latest from Dutch duo Lucas & Steve. Titled “Fearless,” the track sports “sweet basslines and old school breaks,” delivering a “mellow vibe of classic dance music.”

Some call it ‘future house’, for us it’s simply all house music. But to underline our love for the music on a whole, we looked for new grooves and sounds to incorporate. It’s the type of house music we like, that’s all that counts. It’s a combination of sounds we haven’t heard too much, and yeah, it sounds like summer in our ears. Italian producer Spada is back with another deep, melodic track this week in the form of “Sun Sun Sun.” Already released on Beatport last month, the song is now available on iTunes and is receiving support from a wide range of Edm’s hottest artists (Don Diablo, Tritonal and Tiesto).
With its “catchy grooves, vocoder-treated vocal samples, and deep bass riffs,” it’s easy to see why everyone’s digging it. While not quite a tropical house track, there’s a warm melody to the music here and with a bouncy vibe and deep melodies throughout, it would make the perfect addition to any summer playlist.
