Ufc Gives Five Fighters Their Walking Papers

3 October 2012 2:39 PM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

The Ultimate Fighting Championship (Ufc) has been busy thinning the heard this week.

MMAMania has reported that the organization announced that it has released five mixed martial artists from its roster. The chopping block is highlighted by the departure of welterweight Charlie Brenneman and Japanese featherweight Michihiro Omigawa, both of which have figured prominently on the Ufc’s main cards in recent years. Unfortunately, their recent losing skids have forced the decisionmakers over at head office to part ways with the fighters.

The Ufc also gave Eiji Mitsuko, Tommy Hayden, and Walel Watson their walking papers. All three have fallen on rough times recently and likely saw the move coming.

The organization has not embarked on a roster slimming in quite some time and this move may be a sign of things to come. Ufc President Dana White has always emphasized the fact that fighters on his roster need to »

Ufc’s Jon Jones May Have Nerve Damage After Narrowly Escaping Armbar

24 September 2012 10:09 AM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

For those watching Ufc 152 on Saturday night the sight of former Ufc light heavyweight champion Vitor Belfort locking in an armbar that was seconds away from snapping Jon Jones‘ arm was cringe worthy. There was no doubt that his arm was damaged after that point but the champion was able to survive and came back from the brink of defeat in the first round, submitting his veteran opponent via americana arm lock in the fourth round.

Today, MMAJunkie reported that Jones had been told by doctors that he may have nerve damage to his right bicep. While Jones’ impressive victory had many discussing the reigning champion’s next opponent, Bones’ arm will likely sideline him at least until the end of the first quarter of 2013.

With all the injuries plaguing the sport at the moment the damage sustained by one of the Ufc’s most marketable fighters compounds Ufc President Dana White’s frustration. »

Who Is To Blame For Ufc 152′s Failure To Sell Out?

21 September 2012 2:36 PM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

With just over 24 hours left before Ufc 152 gets underway at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto, The Star is reporting that tickets are still available. This may come as a surprise considering the fact that the main card includes two Ufc title bouts and the main event features Jon Jones, one of the organization’s most polarizing figures.

The recent cancellation of Ufc 151 due to Jones’ refusal to take a fight against Chael Sonnen on short notice may have led some to quickly blame Jones and his trainers for the black eye that the sport has received in the last few weeks.

However, the failure to sell out the Air Canada Centre cannot be solely placed at the feet of the light heavyweight champ. Rather, it is more likely that the card’s initial lack of star power, mixed with a perceived oversaturation of mixed martial arts in recent months »

Georges St-Pierre Dreams About Superfight With Jean-Claude Van Damme

18 September 2012 3:57 PM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Forget Ufc middleweight champion Anderson Silva. Georges St-Pierre disclosed to the Leader-Post, albeit jokingly, that a face off with Jean-Claude Van Damme would be the superfight he would have wanted.

“I would have liked to fight Jean-Claude Van Damme in ‘Bloodsport’. That would have been my dream fight, in an Mma cage,” said St-Pierre

While this is obviously nothing but a fantasy, Jcvd was recently spotted at Tri-Star Gym in Montreal training with St-Pierre in preparation for his role in The Expendables 2. Undoubtedly, both stars likely hold a mutual respect for one another due to their similar backgrounds: both have a passion for martial arts and have French speaking roots.

Although this match up would have been fun to see on the silver screen in the 80’s during Van Damme’s prime, in reality, St-Pierre is preparing to return from a lengthy departure from Mma due to a knee injury. »

Costa Phillipou And Nick Ring Will Square Off At Ufc 154

17 September 2012 8:56 AM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

With Ufc 152 right around the corner, Neil Davidson of the Canadian Press has reported via Twitter that Costa Philippou will be facing Nick Ring in November when the organization comes back to Canada for Ufc 154 in Montreal.

#ufc154 update. Calgary’s Nick (The Promise) Ring to face Constantinos Philippou in Montreal.

Neil Davidson (@NeilMDavidson) September 16, 2012

Ufc 154 will also mark the highly anticipated return of Georges St. Pierre as he defends his welterweight title against interim champion Carlos Condit.

Ufc President Dana White has received criticism lately for putting together fight cards that are top heavy and only have one quality match up. While the addition of a contest between Philippou and Ring is not earth shattering news, it does show the organization’s intent to bolster its upcoming fight cards.

Both fighters have been impressive in their last few outings and are looking to break into the upper echelons of »

Ufc 152 Preview and Predictions – Jon Jones vs Vitor Belfort

13 September 2012 10:21 AM, PDT | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

After the disaster that was Ufc 151, where the organisation had to cancel an entire card for the first time in its history, Ufc chairman Dana White will be hoping Ufc 152 delivers.

There has been much debate in the past few weeks over Jon Jones’ decision to turn down a fight with Chael Sonnen on 8 days’ notice, a decision which subsequently resulted in the collapse of Ufc 151. The Light Heavyweight champion has come under a lot of flak from fans and fellow fighters and will be looking to redeem himself in Ufc 152′s main event against the Brazilian Vitor Belfort.

Elsewhere on a stacked main card Featherweights Cub Swanson and Charles Oliviera square off as well as Light Heavyweights Matt Hamill and Roger Hollett. Michael Bisping will face Brian Stann with the winner likely to get a title shot at Anderson Silva and history will be made as the first ever »

Triple H vs Brock Lesnar At WWE SummerSlam 2012 To Get Major Storyline?

16 June 2012 11:17 AM, PDT | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

The current John Laurinaitis and Vince McMahon storyline could end up merged with the Triple H and Brock Lesnar feud at WWE SummerSlam.

F4WOnline.com reports that one idea WWE creative has, and it does seem pretty clear from the current storylines that this is the current direction, that Vince McMahon will fire Laurinaitis at Sunday’s WWE No Way Out pay-per-view when John Cena defeats The Big Show. From there, the storyline would play out that Laurinaitis would return soon later with Brock Lesnar, Paul Heyman and possibly Big Show as a stable, thanks to some help from the WWE Board of Directors.

Vince McMahon would then side with his son-in-law Triple H and perhaps the ownership of the WWE would be on the line when the expected Triple H vs Brock Lesnar match happens at WWE SummerSlam 2012 in August. McMahon would be in Hhh’s corner with Laurinaitis in Lesnar’s. »

WWE’s Brock Lesnar Discussed Ufc Return Fight With Dana White?

13 June 2012 3:38 AM, PDT | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

As ever in pro wrestling it is hard to know where “the shoot” starts and “the worked angles” begins…

F4WOnline reports that sources in both WWE and Ufc are skeptical over just how bad Brock Lesnar and Ufc President Dana White’s recent meeting went. White claimed last week that the recent talk with Lesnar was one of the worst they had ever ever shared and was not part of a Ufc/WWE agreement to further Lesnar’s current “quit” storyline with the WWE.

Sources within WWE almost universally agree that Vince McMahon has an iron-clad contract with Lesnar which rules him out of fighting for Ufc until after WrestleMania 29 on on April 7, 2013. Ufc officials however are suggesting that Lesnar’s limited dates deal with the WWE is non-exclusive and that he and Dana White were discussing a potential fight, perhaps for the Autumn after WWE SummerSlam in August, »

WWE: Vince McMahon Furious At Brock Lesnar & Wants Him To Lose At SummerSlam

11 June 2012 3:22 AM, PDT | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

In a further update to Brock Lesnar having “nuclear heat” with WWE officials for attending the Ufc 146-pay-per-view and meeting Ufc President Dana White without any prior notice, F4WOnline.com has shed more light on how Vince McMahon reacted to the situation.

Reports are that McMahon was so furious that it took his son-in-law Triple H to talk him out of “doing something drastic”. As to the nature of what that would be, it is unknown, but it would probably mean firing Lesnar and going through all the complications of what that would bring.

As for why Triple H talked McMahon out of “doing something drastic”, it may not have just been for the good of the company as many insiders are being led to believe that Triple H is going over in the planned Lesnar vs Hhh match at August’s WWE SummerSlam 2012 pay-per-view. Which clearly would be a mistake, »

WWE: Brock Lesnar’s Bad Meeting With Ufc President Dana White Revealed

9 June 2012 10:25 AM, PDT | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

Ufc President Dana White has revealed that his recent meeting with Brock Lesnar after Ufc 146 didn’t go well. In a much publicised visit, the former Ufc Heavyweight Champion attended the pay-per-view some weeks ago, much to the annoyance of the WWE where he is currently contracted to perform on a limited basis until next May’s WrestleMania 29.

White didn’t reveal exactly what was said at the meeting but did tell MMAJunkie.com that it wasn’t pleasant;

“The meeting did not go well. Probably the worst meeting we’ve ever had with Brock Lesnar, and I haven’t talked to him since. It’s one of those things (where) it’s not worth getting into it publicly… It’s not worth getting into the B.S. over it.”

White denied that the meeting was planned all along by Vince McMahon as a way to gain further interest in »

Brock Lesnar Has ‘Nuclear Heat’ In WWE After Ufc 146 Appearance

6 June 2012 11:21 PM, PDT | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

Brock Lesnar reportedly has “nuclear heat” in the WWE stemming from his much publicised appearance at the Ufc 146 pay-per-view.

Vince McMahon had no advanced knowledge that Lesnar was planning to visit the event and speak with Ufc President Dana White and it was a surprise to everyone in the WWE when he turned up at the show. Even before Ufc 146, Lesnar had been a pain in the ass for McMahon to deal with behind-the-scenes, which all started at the WWE Extreme Rules pay-per-view backstage after John Cena cut a promo to the crowd instead of being stretched to the back after a Lesnar beating, as scripted.

In truth, Lesnar was always difficult to work with on his first run ten years ago but with him making far more money and working less dates, he’s almost impossible to work with now. He still hates wrestling and prefers real, competitive sports »

EA's E3 conference: 'Dead Space 3,' 'Medal of Honor,' and more

Electronic Arts held the second major event of Monday’s pre-E3 press conference smorgasboard, showing off ten of their upcoming titles in La’s Orpheum Theatre. When EA’s CEO John Riccitiello took the stage, he explained that the briefing would be “less like the Oscars, and more like Sundance” — a reference to the relatively pomp-free presentation, although a single minute of these games features more explosions and slow-motion-neck-stabs than a decade of Sundance. We’ll have a more in-depth look at each of these games once E3 kicks off tomorrow, but for now, here’s a quick rundown of »

E3 2012: Quick EA Press Conference Recap

4 June 2012 3:46 PM, PDT | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

EA has just finished their respective E3 press conference with one major surprise and a lot of demos of games that we expected to be present but looked amazing. First Dead Space 3 was shown off and honestly the demo looks amazing but fans of the series may be disappointed, it looks like Visceral Games is taking the franchise in a mush more Gears of War direction.

The demo showed only co-op action oriented gameplay and the last boss battle is very reminiscent of fights in the Gears of War franchise. That is not to say the game won’t be scary but most fans of the Dead Space games love the isolation feeling the game gives you; and you may not get that same feeling the first two games gave you. But honestly it is to early to say anything definitively, so I will keep my fingers crossed they don »

Jason Mayhem Miller: Ufc bans fighter after incident

Ufc fighter Jayson "Mayhem" Miller will fight no more after the organization banned the athlete following a post-bout incident May 27.

According to Bleacher Report, Ufc president Dana White says "some crazy s--- happened backstage" and Miller was let go from the company. Reports first speculated that his dismissal had to do with his poor performance against Cb Dollaway, but we now know it was due to something else altogether.

Bleacher Report says that Miller had already announced plans to retire from Mma, but has now been forced to do so by his employers. What, exactly, the incident entailed is still a mystery.

Brock Lesnar Returning To Ufc?

27 May 2012 11:06 PM, PDT | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

WWE Superstar Brock Lesnar was spotted in the crowd at Saturday’s Ufc 146 PPV and was shown on camera before the Frank Mir vs Junior do Santos main event. Ufc big wig Dana White was asked later in the show if a return to the Octagon was on the cards for the former Word Heavyweight Champion, to which he responded simply by saying “Yeah”.

This has led to much speculation as to whether or not Lesnar could return to Ufc despite being locked in a one year deal with the WWE that doesn’t expire until WrestleMania 29 in March 2013. Sources are questioning whether this is all part of the ‘Brock Lesnar quits WWE’ storyline or if he actually has intentions of stepping back inside the Mma cage environment. Is this Lesnar’s way of putting Vince McMahon and co. on notice? Is Brock using WWE for a bit of extra »

Arianny Celeste: Ufc ring girl arrested on domestic violence charges

Ring girl Arianny Celeste missed Ufc 146 on Saturday (May 26) after she was arrested on domestic violence charges in Clark County, Nevada. Celeste (real name Arianny Lopez) was taken into custody in the morning, but later freed on a $3,000 bond, reports TMZ.

Celeste herself has not issued a statement about the arrest and no other details have been made available by authorities. Yahoo Sports reported that while Celeste missed the preliminary fights at Ufc 146, she was spotted at the MGM Grand Garden Arena during later bouts.

"Arianny is our baby," said Ufc president Dana White in a statement. "She has been with us for over five years. She is a good girl and an amazing ambassador for the Ufc. I don't know all the details of what happened, but we have her back and support her 100 percent."
