Kyle Gallner Is One Last 'Beautiful Creature'

1 May 2012 4:56 PM, PDT | NextMovie | See recent NextMovie news »

Kyle Gallner is now in on the mystery.

The "Red State" star will soon be headed down south as he signs on for a key role in "Beautiful Creatures," according to Variety.

"Beautiful Creatures" tells the gothic tale of two teens who are drawn together by a strange connection and supernatural secrets. Gallner will be playing the role of Larkin, the younger brother of the witch Ridley (Emmy Rossum) and the unfortunate recipient of one of her spells.

Kyle Gallner is certainly no stranger to films that don't quite take place in our reality, having appeared in the "Nightmare on Elm Street" reboot, "The Haunting in Connecticut" and "Jennifer's Body." He was recently terrorized by religious extremists in Kevin Smith's "Red State" and made a splash at Sundance earlier this year with his performance as Aaron Paul's younger brother in "Smashed."

Alden Ehrenreich Is the New Ethan of 'Beautiful Creatures'

11 April 2012 4:35 PM, PDT | NextMovie | See recent NextMovie news »

Jack O'Connell is no longer a "Beautiful Creature."

The young actor has dropped out of playing the lead male role in the upcoming supernatural mystery and has been replaced by hot up-and-comer Alden Ehrenreich, according The Playlist.

O'Connell, who was set to play the part of Ethan Wate, had to leave the project due to scheduling conflicts. Ehrenheich will now be playing the role that teams him up with Alice Englert in the gothic tale of two teens in the deep south who are drawn together by a strange connection and supernatural secrets.

Alden Ehrenheich has been a favorite of the Coppola family as of late, having appeared in Sofia's "Somewhere" and her dad Francis' "Tetro" and "Twixt" (which is still trying to lock down a U.S. release date). He'll also be featured in "Oldboy" director Park Chan-wook's upcoming English-language debut, "Stoker," co-starring Mia Wasikowska and Nicole Kidman. »

‘Tetro’ and ‘Stoker’ Actor Alden Ehrenreich Steps In for Jack O’Connell on ‘Beautiful Creatures’

11 April 2012 4:08 PM, PDT | The Film Stage | See recent The Film Stage news »

It’s too early out to predict just how Beautiful Creatures will look when all’s said and done, but this probably still isn’t news the Jack O’Connell camp wants to heard. According to Variety, the English chap’s been forced to leave Creatures — a film that could’ve been huge for him — on account of scheduling conflicts, though their own Jeff Sneider claims his visa simply couldn’t be cleared in time. If it’s the latter case? My honest sympathies.

In his place will be Alden Ehrenreich, a talented young actor best known for his leading work in Francis Ford Coppola‘s Tetro. Right there, we have film that, while not quite cohesive, allowed him to make a considerable first impression; a performance such as that, on display here, should make the switch an easy one for interested viewers to handle. (Later this year, he can »

Alden Ehrenreich Takes Over Lead Role In 'Beautiful Creatures'

11 April 2012 2:53 PM, PDT | The Playlist | See recent The Playlist news »

Alden Ehrenreich...franchise star? That looks like it could be the case. The indie darling and Coppola fave (appearing in Sofia's "Somewhere" and Francis' "Tetro" and "Twixt") isn't a stranger to franchise movies, having tested last fall for Warner Bros. stuck-in-development-hell "Akira," but now he's making a move that will put him in front of his biggest audience yet.

Alcon Entertainment announced today that Ehrenreich was taking over the co-lead role in "Beautiful Creatures" from Jack O'Connell, who had to exit the film over scheduling conflicts. An adaptation of the novel by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl -- the first in a series, naturally -- which is being written and directed by Richard Lagravanese ("P.S. I Love You") the picture will see Ehrenreich starring opposite Alice Englert as leads Ethan Wate and Lena Duchannes, two teens in the deep south who are drawn together by a strange connection and supernatural secrets. »
