John C. McGinley is in talks to join the cast of Summit Entertainment's thriller "I, Alex Cross," an origin tale based on the books of James Patterson.According to Variety, Tyler Perry will play the iconic detective-psychologist Alex Cross.Rob Cohen is directing from a script by Kerry Williamson and Marc Moss.Ed Burns, Matthew Fox, Jean Reno and Giancarlo Esposito have also been cast. The story finds Cross teaming up with another detective to track down a serial killer.Qed's Bill Block and Paul Hanson are producing along with Patterson, Leopoldo Gout and Steve Bowen. Production is scheduled to begin in August with a release in late 2012 or early 2013.McGinley is best known for his work on the NBC show "Scrubs." »

Giancarlo Esposito has boarded the cast of Summit Entertainment's thriller "I, Alex Cross," an origin tale based on the books of James Patterson.According to The Hollywood Reporter, Tyler Perry will play the iconic detective-psychologist Alex Cross.Rob Cohen is directing from a script by Kerry Williamson and Marc Moss.Ed Burns, Matthew Fox and Jean Reno have also been cast. The story finds Cross teaming up with another detective to track down a serial killer.Qed's Bill Block and Paul Hanson are producing along with Patterson, Leopoldo Gout and Steve Bowen. Summit Entertainment has picked up I, Alex Cross, starring Tyler Perry starring and directed by Rob Cohen. Distrib landed U.S. rights as confirmed on Thursday night by a Summit spokesman. I, Alex Cross is been developed as origin tale of the detective/psychologist originally played by Morgan Freeman in Kiss the Girls and the follow-up Along Came a Spider.
