Originally from Morelia, Mexico, Jesús Pimentel divides his time between New York City and the village of Tzintzuntzan in Michoacán, Mexico. He holds a Law Degree from the Universidad Michoacana and an M.F.A. in Film with a concentration in Directing and Screenwriting from Columbia University.
Jesús's work has been screened in film festivals around the world, including the Miami International Film Festival, the Los Angeles Latino Film Festival, the Morelia International Film Festival, the Chungmuro International Film Festival in Seoul and the Bolzano Short Film Festival, as well as the Short Film Corner and Semaine de la Critique of the Cannes Film Festival.
In 2005, Jesús was the recipient of the prestigious Fulbright grant to study filmmaking at Columbia University in New York City. In 2010 he was nominated for a Student Academy Award-Oscar® for his short film Miramelinda, and in 2011 he won the prestigious Diosa de Plata award for best Mexican short film, granted by the Mexican Film Press Association (PECIME). In 2012, Jesús was commissioned to create and develop the Michoacán Film Commission (COFILMICH) in Mexico.
Jesús is the Co-Founder and Director of Cine Qua Non Lab, a nonprofit organization based in Michoacán, Mexico, which supports independent film and emerging filmmakers by holding residential workshops for screenwriters. He has participated as jury for various film festivals in Mexico and as project advisor at IFP Independent Film Week in New York, Proimágenes Colombia and Los Cabos International Film Festival, among others.
