Chris Terrio ("Argo") has been hired to pen the fact-based drama "A Murder Foretold" for Paramount Pictures and Indian Paintbrush says Deadline.
Based on an article by David Grann in The New Yorker, the story looks into Rodrigo Rosenberg, a wealthy Guatemalan businessman who watched his wife-to-be get assassinated along with her father, and was later gunned down himself while riding his bicycle.
His murder stirred up an entire country frustrated by the endless waves of violence, sometimes involving corrupt government officials.
Steve Zaillian, Garrett Basch, Steven Rales and Mark Roybal will produce. Terrio will script the project before the English-language film adaptation of Harlan Coben's novel "Tell No One". »

Screenwriter Chris Terrio has been hired by Paramount and Indian Paintbrush to script the adaptation of David Grann's New Yorker article A Murder Foretold. The fascinating story revolves around the murder of beloved and devoted Guatemalan corporate attorney Rodrigo Rosenberg who played a videotape at his funeral predicting his murder and implicating the President, the President's wife, and other close aides. Rosenberg hoped his video would call attention to the epidemic of homicides and the government corruption that allowed such unchecked violence to continue. However, an investigation by a special prosecutor led to a remarkable twist in the case but also a serious crackdown on violence. It's a great read and could be an impressive film in the right hands. The project was the center of an intense bidding war back in April. Deadline reports that Terrio, who also wrote Ben Affleck's Argo, will write the script before »

Exclusive: Paramount and Indian Paintbrush have hired Chris Terrio to write A Murder Foretold, the fact-based drama based on the David Grann article in the April 4 issue of The New Yorker about a series of high-level murders in Guatemala. The film will be produced by Film Rites’ Steve Zaillian and Garrett Basch and Indian Paintbrush’s Steven Rales and Mark Roybal. Terrio is coming off Argo, the Ben Affleck-directed drama that is currently in production at Warner Bros. I’m told Terrio will script A Murder Foretold before getting started on an adaptation of the Harlan Coben novel Tell No One, which was previously turned into a French film. A Murder Foretold takes place in a country devastated by killings routinely perpetrated by everyone from secret police to drug dealers. Rodrigo Rosenberg, a wealthy businessman who watched his wife-to-be get assassinated along with her father, was later gunned down while riding his bicycle. »

While opponents of capital punishment point to the growing number of exonerated prisoners as evidence of its fallibility, supporters can claim the same as proof the system works: Mistakes happen, but sooner or later, they’re rooted out. But in the case of Cameron Todd Willingham, there’s no turning back the clock. In the 2009 New Yorker article “Trial By Fire,” David Grann meticulously laid out a compelling case that the crime for which Willingham was executed in Texas in 2004—the death by fire of his three young daughters—never even occurred. Evidence that the fire was intentionally »

Brad Pitt is currently shooting Paramount's adaptation of World War Z, but that hasn't stopped a new role going his way.
THR reports that Pitt is in negotiations to join The Gray Man with similarly named director James Gray (Little Odessa, Two Lovers). The movie won't be a biopic for Gray, but will follow Pitt as a CIA operative-turned-assassin who is targeted for assassination and must evade death while trying to save the lives of two daughters who are unaware he exists. Adam Cozad wrote the script for the movie, which made the 2010 Black List of unproduced screenplays. The "Gray Man" is a nickname that Pitt's character is known by.
No word on when the production will start, as Pitt's deal for the movie is not official yet. Pitt and Gray have wanted to work together since 2009, when both the actor and director attached themselves to an adaptation of The Lost City of Z, »

After an intense auction, Paramount has teamed up with Indian Paintbrush to acquire the screen rights to David Grann’s New Yorker article A Murder Foretold. The harrowing piece tells the story of a string of high-level murders in Guatemala, and the wealthy businessman who posthumously brought about the crackdown on the violence in the country and brought to justice those responsible. Guatemala was raveged by killings “routinely perpetrated by everyone from secret police to drug dealers who acted with impunity.” The businessman had videocassettes passed around at his funeral, wherein he accused the president, his assassinated wife and other aides of being implicated in his own murder. Deadline reports that the article, published on April 4th, went out to studios last week and the Paramount-Indian Paintbrush team closed the deal. Grann is no stranger to Hollywood adaptations of his work, as his article-turned-book The Lost City of Z is »
