Skyfall (Bond 23) Has Cast Its New Q!

25 November 2011 12:21 PM, PST | HeyUGuys.co.uk | See recent HeyUGuys news »

We had suspicions that this would be the case but the BBC have confirmed the news that Ben Whishaw will play Q in the brand new Bond movie now known as Skyfall. The role was played by Desmond Llewelyn in 17 Bond movies to perfection and was more recently played by John Cleese. Wishaw has most recently starred in the 1950s new drama The Hour on the BBC.

The BBC make the good point that this will be the first time that Q is to be played by someone younger than James Bond (Daniel Craig), in this case, 12 years younger but in the age of hi-tech, maybe it’s just what the part required? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below. He doesn’t really look like a Q that I ever imagined but then this is the new generation of Bond. Now all we need to know are »

Ben Whishaw Q'd up for James Bond film Skyfall

25 November 2011 7:27 AM, PST | The Guardian - Film News | See recent The Guardian - Film News news »

Role of MI6 scientist reprised for first time in 10 years – and this time he will look younger than Bond

Skyfall's still officially short of Moneypenny, but Sam Mendes's James Bond film will see the return of techie sidekick Q.

Ben Whishaw, whose casting was confirmed at the official launch of the 23rd Bond movie earlier this month, will play the MI6 stalwart. It's the first time that the character, who's been absent from the franchise for 10 years, has been portrayed as younger than Bond himself.

Q was made famous by Desmond Llewelyn, who played the character for 36 years. Llewelyn portrayed the scientist as a sage auhoritarian, delivering a stern warning with each gadget he doled out to 007. John Cleese, who played Q's assistant, R, in 1999's The World is Not Enough, graduated to the role after Llewelyn's death and went on to play a kookier version of the »

James Bond Gets Surprising, Heartthrob British Star

25 November 2011 5:21 AM, PST | Huffington Post | See recent Huffington Post news »

Sam Mendes is wasting no time in shaking up the "James Bond" franchise.

According to BBC, the agent for British actor Ben Whishaw has confirmed that the 31-year old will appear in "Skyfall" as MI6 gadget guru Q, the tech wizard who supplies James Bond his always interesting gizmos. The casting will mark the first time that an actor playing Q is younger than the Bond star; Daniel Craig is 43 years old.

The role of Q was played for 36 years by Desmond Llewelyn, who first appeared in 1963's "From Russia With Love," and went on to star in every Bond film, aside from Roger Moore's bow in "Live and Let Live," until he passed away in 1999. Peter Burton played him as Major Boothroyd in 1962's "Dr. No," and John Cleese bookended by taking on the part in 2002's "Die Another Day."

Helen McRory and Ola Rapace added to Skyfall!

8 November 2011 8:30 AM, PST | ComicBookMovie.com | See recent ComicBookMovie news »

A late addition to the cast of Skyfall, the twenty-third James Bond movie, is Helen McRory. When Eon Productions held a press conference last week to announce the title of the film and the beginning of the shoot, McRory’s name was not mentioned. However, today the Official James Bond Twitter Page has confirmed that McRory will have a part in the movie. It was also announced that Ola Rapace, the ex-husband of actress Noomi Rapace, will appear in the movie. Nobody knows who either of them will play, but is it just me, or does McRory pass a baring resemblance to Judi Dench, playing M... Anyway, this will, as far as I'm concerned be the first major feature role, or any role, for Ola Rapace in an English language movie. Nevertheless, it gives up geeks more to speculate about! Without a doubt, one of the most highly anticipated films of 2012, Skyfall – until now, known by the name Bond 23 – has been progressing excellently over the past few days, officially announcing its name, logo, cast, and synopsis.

Filming has commenced as of yesterday, with the first official image from the set tweeted courtesy of the official 007 Twitter page. The very same page has also now tweeted that Skyfall has added two more members to its cast, in the form of Helen McCrory and Ola Rapace.

“In Skyfall, Bond’s loyalty to M is tested as her past comes back to haunt her. As MI6 comes under attack, 007 must track down and destroy the threat, no matter how personal the cost.”

The film will see the return of Daniel Craig in the Bond role – my personal favourite Bond actor to date – and of course Dame Judi Dench will be returning as M, »

Helen McCrory Joins Skyfall

7 November 2011 9:40 PM, PST | EmpireOnline | See recent EmpireOnline news »

While the big launch for the next James Bond film, Skyfall, happened last week, director Sam Mendes is not quite finished adding to the cast. And why would he be, since Bond outings always boast big ensembles? The latest names added to the list are Helen McCrory and Ola Rapace.McCrory may be best known for her appearances as Narcissa Malfoy in three of the Harry Potter films, but she’s also been seen in projects such as The Queen and Enduring Love. She’ll next appear in Hugo.Rapace is likely even less well known to audiences here, though that last name might be a giveaway: he’s Noomi Rapace’s ex-hubby and has worked on the likes of Together. In case you were wondering, there's no word on what roles they'll be playing in Skyfall. We do know they’re joining a cast that already includes Daniel Craig, »

Helen McCrory Confirmed for & Ola Rapace Cast In ‘Skyfall’; First Official Set Photo Arrives

7 November 2011 9:17 PM, PST | The Film Stage | See recent The Film Stage news »

Right up above, you can see the first official set photo from Skyfall, Sam Mendes‘ long-awaited entry into the Bond series that began shooting today. I joked on Twitter — the very same place the marketing team posted this photo — about how this was merely a fun thing for fans, and not even close to something substantial. But I still appreciate some behind-the-scenes access to a film I’m greatly anticipating, no matter how minor.

Skyfall‘s Twitter account also announced the confirmation of the rumored Helen McCrory and the addition of Ola (ex-husband of Noomi) Rapace to the cast. There’s no indication as to who either will play, but I’ll just throw out the random guess that McCrory is a member of MI6, and Rapace has some kind of antagonistic role. When taking a gander at his physical appearance, he just kind of has the look of a Bond villain. »

Helen McCrory Confirmed For New Bond Film ‘Skyfall,’ Ola Rapace Added

7 November 2011 4:30 PM, PST | Slash Film | See recent Slash Film news »

Briefly: One of the names often mentioned as a late addition to the cast [1] of Skyfall, the twenty-third James Bond movie, is Helen McCrory. When Eon Productions held a press conference [2] last week to announce the title of the film and the beginning of the shoot, McCrory's name was not mentioned. Today, however, the official Bond Twitter account [3] has confirmed that McCrory will have a part in the movie. Along with her comes the announcement that Ola Rapace, the ex-husband of actress Noomi Rapace, will also be in the movie. We don't know anything about the role that either actor will play at this point. This will, I believe, be the first major feature role for Ola Rapace in an English language film. Sam Mendes directs Skyfall, which stars Daniel Craig, Judi Dench, Naomie Harris, Bérénice Marlohe, Judi Dench, Ben Whishaw, Ralph Fiennes, and Albert Finney. New Set Photos from New James Bond Film, Skyfall

The first of set photos from the next James Bond film, Skyfall, have gone online.  Filming has begun and you'll see from these set photos...kind of nothing.  Expect a lot of that because that's the majority of set photos, and I don't really understand the appeal of set photos for a movie like Skyfall where there won't be outlandish costumes or otherworldly production design.  But it's been three years since the last Bond flick and some of you may be hard up for anything 007.
