Deep in the woods outside of Bucharest, Romania, the sun sets early over bare trees. It's silent until galloping becomes audible, and Kevin Costner, looking perfectly natural, rides up on a large black horse.
The cast of History's "Hatfields & McCoys," a miniseries airing over three consecutive nights beginning Monday, May 28, races against the fading sunlight to shoot a scene.
A little later, as the makeup artist deftly removes a beard, which made Costner look old and grungy, he reflects on the historical feud that lured him to produce and star in his major foray into television.
"Anybody who goes through war is marked," Costner says of his character, Devil Anse, patriarch of the Hatfields. "Anybody who has killed is marked, or has seen somebody killed is marked. How do you ever truly recover? He went on to father children, create an entrepreneurial business."
"Like any man of war, he is »

Mia Wasikowska has signed on to star in John Curran’s (“The Painted Veil”) new indie “Tracks.” The film will tell the true story of a young woman named Robyn Davidson who traveled 1678 miles through the Australian desert in 1987. It’s an Australian production and will be based on Davidson’s memoirs of the same name, and has already secured distribution down under and in the U.K. (through Momentum Pictures). [Variety]
Hilary Swank will star alongside Brenda Blethyn in the HBO TV movie “Mary and Martha.” The names attached behind the camera are pretty impressive too, with “Salt” director Phillip Noyce set to helm the Richard Curtis (“Love Actually”) penned script. The story will follow two women who emerge from traumatic family tragedy to form a unique bond while fighting for the eradication of malaria. Sounds like pretty heavy stuff, but yet again HBO seems to have lined up the talent to match. »

Few stories in American history have such a strange dynamic of awareness and ignorance, and that fact alone gives Hatfields & McCoys the potential to set records for a mini-series that focuses on historic fact (as best they’re known). While virtually everyone knows about the dueling families, not many are truly familiar with all the details, or the seriousness of the feud’s escalation.
Beginning May 28th, History brings you a three-part event that takes you through the entire feud, from a time when the two patriarchs were friends, all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court’s intervention in the hostilities which had brought West Virginia and Kentucky to the brink of their own war.
As you might imagine (or at least, hope), being that the show is airing on History, the strength of the series comes from its commitment to accuracy. It’s hard to find fault »

Just yesterday, we reported that Demi Moore had joined the cast of Naomi Foner‘s Very Good Girls and now, we’re getting word that Boyd Holbrook will be joining the vet alongside Dakota Fanning, Elizabeth Olsen and Peter Sarsgaard. [THR]
The coming-of-age tale tells the story of “two lifelong best friends both determined to lose their virginity as a rite of passage into the adult world.” Their relationship is then tested when the pair fall in love with the same young artist, to be played by Holbrook. Moore is set to play the role of Olsen‘s mother.
Back in January, we reported that Like Crazy star Anton Yelchin would be playing the young artist role, but this news is providing us with some conflicting reports. There’s no official reason as to why Yelchin dropped out of the drama, but I’m sure it has to do with scheduling »

You've probably never heard of Boyd Holbrook before, but let's be honest-- you'd never heard of Robert Pattinson or Channing Tatum or even Justin Bieber before suddenly they were everywhere, the new heartthrob who women and girls of a certain age suddenly couldn't get enough of. Stardom like that isn't guaranteed, of course, but Holbrook is setting himself up pretty well with a lot of recent roles, including one in The Host, an adaptation of Stephenie Meyer's novel. You remember what happened the last time they made a movie from one of Meyer's books? It was Twilight. Anyway, Holbrook isn't locked into a Twilight-level franchise just yet, which gives him room to take on a wider variety of roles, including the upcoming TV series Hatfields & McCoys and now the film Very Good Girls, which stars Dakota Fanning and Elizabeth Olsen. According to Deadline Holbrook will play the young artist »

Stephenie Meyer is moving on from Twilight with the big screen adaptation of her other novel The Host. Today we have a new shot of lead Saoirse Ronan as Melanie Stryder, with those piercing eyes fighting the ‘wanderer’ within. What’s that, you ask? Well, it’s a parasitic alien race that easily inhabit the bodies of humans but Saorise’s character Melanie finds herself able to fight the beast that wants to take over her and human existence.
It faintly echoes the classic Invasion Of The Body Snatchers (1956) but this will be, no doubt, more updated and socially relevant. This adaptation has been co-written by Meyer with director Andrew Niccol who’s most famed for The Truman Show but also directed the recent and very average In Time. Like all films, we’re looking forward to seeing how this turns out and don’t forget to check out the teaser trailer. »

The Host hits theaters in less than a year now, and to celebrate the milestone, Open Road Films released this new image of Saoirse Ronan as "Wanda" in the film. As you can see in the image, and as was played upon in the first teaser trailer for the picture, her eyes are a silvery-gray color, indicating that at this point in the film, the host body (belonging to "Melanie Stryder") has been inhabited by "Wanderer," the alien soul. The Host is currently in the middle of production, with the shooting location changing from Louisiana to New Mexico next week. Ronan leads as "Wanda" in the picture.
