Welker appeared in the final minutes of Sunday’s show, with a montage of her asking hard-hitting questions at a presidential debate in 2020 and of other notable figures.
“You have left very big shoes to fill and I just want to make you proud,” Welker told Todd.
“I take this responsibility so seriously,” Welker said. “I am ready because you have helped me get ready, Chuck. You’re someone who invests in the people who you care about and you have invested in me, and I am just so eternally grateful for that.” She credited Todd for bringing her to D.C. and teaching her...

Chuck Todd announced that he will step down as moderator of Meet the Press in September and will be succeeded by Kristen Welker.
Todd has moderated the program since September 2014.
There already was speculation that there would be a change on the show, after David P. Gelles was hired as executive producer last year, succeeding John Reiss.
Todd said at the end of the show on Sunday, “It’s been an amazing nearly decade long run. I am really proud of what this team and I have built over the last decade. Frankly, the last 15 years, which also includes my time as political director. I’ve loved so much of this job, helping to explain America to Washington and explain Washington to America.”
Todd said that “the key to the survival of any of these media entities, including here at Meet the Press, is for leaders to not overstay their welcome.

ABC News’ This Week With George Stephanopoulos topped the key adults 25-54 demographic among the Sunday news programs the 2021-22 broadcast television season, while CBS News’ Face the Nation again was the most watched in total viewers.
All of the network Sunday shows shed viewers from the 2020-21 season, a period that included the momentous presidential election and its aftermath. Since then, some of the programs have gone through some changes, while there has been some speculation of the long-term future of the Sunday mainstays and their Beltway focus.
This Week, which features Stephanopoulos, Jonathan Karl and Martha Raddatz as hosts, averaged 572,000 viewers in the demo, a decline of 11 from the previous season. But that was still enough to top that category, overtaking NBC News’ Meet the Press. The Chuck Todd-hosted show averaged 525,000 viewers in the demo, off by 26 versus the previous season. The “Meet the Press” franchise includes not only Chuck Todd’s Sunday show on NBC and daily MSNBC offering, but podcasts, streaming and events like a film festival, too. As NBC News’ own Dylan Byers pointed out Tuesday, television viewership is in decline, so embracing new mediums and audiences is the key to brand survival. NBC News’ “Meet the Press” is capping off 2020 as the highest-rated Sunday show in the advertiser-coveted age demographic for the fifth straight year, according to Nielsen Media Research data.
While there are two Sundays left to go in 2020, “Mtp” is on track to outpace all the other Sunday-morning public affairs programs in the advertiser-coveted age demographic of 25 to 54 for five straight years and for 23 out of the past 26 years. Overall, the show averaged 821,000 viewers in the key demo for the year, ahead of ABC News’ Sunday show by 117,000 and CBS News’ by 102,000. Fox’s broadcast offering, “Fox News Sunday,” took in 397,000 in the demo for the year, but that total doesn’t reflect how many tuned in for its repeats on Fox News’ cable channel.
The 821,000 average in the demo is the best return for “Mtp” in that category since 2018.

London -- Writer/director Jonathan Sagall has signed up Natali Atia, Clara Khoury, Daniel Caltagirone and Tali Knight to star in his project "Lipstikka."
The movie, due to shoot here in the British capital and on location in Haifa, Israel, details the story of two teenage girls -- one Christian, one Muslim -- who decide to celebrate a birthday by an illicit trip to the cinema and sneak over the divide into West Jerusalem where their paths cross two Israeli soldiers. Years later the two girls come together in London and the layers of remembered events are stripped away revealing vastly different stories that have scarred their lives.
Sagall also produces along with Guy Allon with John Reiss and David Willing taking exec producer roles.
The project is backed by Israel Film Fund, John Reiss & Associates and Monumental Productions. The film is scheduled to be ready for release Spring 2010, the filmmakers said.
