Happy Birthday, David Archuleta!

28 December 2010 6:30 AM, PST | MTV Newsroom | See recent MTV Newsroom news »

If you have any celebration left in you after Christmas and Hayley Williams' birthday, you should raise a glass (of sparkling cider, of course) to David Archuleta. The former "American Idol" runner-up turns 20 years old today, and he has no shortage of things to celebrate. Born in Florida but raised in a suburb of Salt Lake City, Utah (he moved there when he was six years old), Archuleta got interested in singing early on and ended up performing in public for the first time at age 10 (he sang "I Will Always Love You" at a talent competition).

From there, he slowly set about establishing a career for himself, competing on "Star Search" when he was 12 years old. He parlayed those appearances into a handful of other television appearances, but obviously got the biggest boost of his career when he was finally old enough to audition for "American Idol."

They may have sparred onstage, but these two now-former Idol judges really are BFFs — and Paula’s send-off brought tears to Simon’s eyes!

When Paula Abdul finished her video send-off to pal Simon Cowell with the words, “To sir, with love,” she absolutely meant it. The emotion was so high it brought a tear to Simon’s eye — and to mine.

“My darling Simon,” the 47-year-old dancer/singer/choreographer said after taking the American Idol stage during the May 26 finale, adding, “I’ve worked with a lot of people over the years. ‘Idol’ Behind-the-scenes: It’s Over! Crystal Lost & Says She Knew Lee Would Win!

Mama Sox was robbed last night – but even she had a feeling that her ‘musical crush’ Lee DeWyze was going to walk away with the top prize this season on American Idol

I am beyond disappointed by the American Idol season finale May 26, if only for the reason that my girl Crystal Bowersox lost by a 2% margin. Two Percent. Highway robbery! That said, I suspected all along that Lee DeWyze might steal her glory and apparently, so did she.

“I knew Lee was going to win,” the 24-year-old Elliston, Ohio native confided post-show. She didn’t seem upset and explained that, throughout this whole experience, her attitude has always been laid-back and laissez-faire. Whatever will be, will be.

“I learned a lot about myself,” she continued. “I feel like I won because Lee won, and I respect him as an artist.”

Amazing attitude, don’t you think? »

‘Idol’ Shocker! Crystal Bowersox Not Only Lost ‘American Idol,’ She Split Up With Her Boyfriend This Week, Too!

27 May 2010 10:16 AM, PDT | HollywoodLife | See recent HollywoodLife news »

Oh, no! We don’t know what’s worse — the heartbreak of losing the American Idol crown or losing the man you love!

The show must go on! Crystal Bowersox’s performance of ‘Up to the Mountain’ was so emotional and heartfelt May 25, we assumed she was just living in the moment. But perhaps the song had so much meaning to the dreadlocked singer because she was in the process of going through a major breakup!

“Big Tony… he went home,” Crystal, 24, said on Ryan Seacrest’s radio show May 27, the day after placing second to Lee DeWyze on the American Idol, referring to now ex-boyfriend, Tony Kusian.

The reason for the split?

“He wasn’t cool with the lifestyle [of being a public personality],” the single mom said, admitting she was “a little sad he did it on performance day,” but “it set that fire in [her] belly” for the competition that night.

What a bittersweet week for Crystal! »

Carrie, Kelly, Ruben, Fantasia, Jordin, Kris and Taylor were all on hand to sing Simon Cowell off in style — but where was David?

Last night’s Simon Cowell tribute performance was as touching as they come. Don’t worry — the sexy singer doesn’t have beef with cranky Cowell: he simply had a prior cancer charity commitment in Kansas City, says his rep tells Access Hollywood.

Even though the judges seemed to prefer Crystal last night, Lee’s versions of U2’s ‘Beautiful Day,’ R.E.M’s ‘Everybody Hurts,’ and Simon & Garfunkel’s ‘The Boxer’ still managed to win over the fans.

Lee has been a favorite this entire season, even past finalist Blake Lewis told us Exclusively he expected a Lee victory. We do wish however that Lee would reconsider his first single – ‘Beautiful Day’ is a horrible choice!

Shocker! Simon Cowell Reveals The Real Reason He’s Leaving ‘American Idol!’

26 May 2010 4:59 PM, PDT | HollywoodLife | See recent HollywoodLife news »

We thought Simon was quitting American Idol to focus on his new show, X-Factor — boy, were we wrong!

Simon Cowell led us to believe this was his final season of American Idol because he was ready to pursue other endeavors — but today he told his friend and co-worker Ryan Seacrest it’s actually His fault he’s saying goodbye!

“You changed last year,” Simon, 50, said on Ryan Seacrest’s radio show May 25, blaming his departure on the 35-year-old host.

“I remember we were on a plane one afternoon and I knew I was going to be sitting with you for the entire six hours. You were listening to Miley Cyrus, singing — what’s that song? ‘Idol’ Behind-the-scenes: Michael Lynche Has The Bieber Fever!

26 May 2010 9:46 AM, PDT | HollywoodLife | See recent HollywoodLife news »

Can you imagine a more unlikely pairing than ‘Big’ Mike Lynche and Justin Bieber? We can’t – but Mike loves the little guy!

The hot topic of conversation in between commercial breaks during American Idol May 25 was, naturally, the finale’s special guest performers. One name in particular kept coming up — none other than Justin Bieber!

Idol’s warm-up guy, Cory, outed fourth place contestant Michael Lynche’s obsession with the 16-year-old tween singer, announcing to the entire 7,000+ person audience, “Sorry Mike, I know how excited you get by Bieber, but he won’t be here tomorrow night.”

Cory continued to talk about how enthusiastic the 26-year-old dad from Florida got when Jb was a guest performer on Idol earlier this year, (his performance actually aired May 19) eventually yelling, “Mike’s got the Bieber Fever!”

Duh, Cory. Who doesn’t these days?
