When Matt Osterman attended the Ifp Narrative Lab a few years ago, his $25,000, science fiction/supernatural thriller, about a grief-stricken man who builds a machine to communicate with the dead, was titled Phasma ex Machina. But when the film was finished and released this summer on DVD and, later, iTunes and Netflix by Screen Media, it went under the less obscure title of Ghost from the Machine. Now, however, another name change is in the works. This August Universal Pictures acquired the remake rights, attaching Gary Shore and Nathan Parker to write and direct. The new film will be called Our House, and I interviewed Osterman about his inspiration for the film, his involvement in the new picture and what advice he would give to other filmmakers contemplating remake deals.
Filmmaker: How did you get started on Phasma, and how did you go about acquiring distribution?
Osterman: The film was shot in Minneapolis-St. »

Stars: Jason Statham, Paddy Considine, Aiden GIllen, David Morrissey, Zawe Ashton | Written by Nathan Parker | Directed by Elliott Lester
Jason Statham and Paddy Considine as the fuzz kicking arse and taking names on the trail of a cop-killer in South East London, this writer’s very own ends? I’ll take a slice of that pie, please. I had been meaning to catch Blitz at the cinema upon its release, but it didn’t stick around long enough. As such, I was delighted when the test disc dropped through the post for its DVD release.
Statham is, of course, the rogue cop and loose cannon, but by god, does he get results. He’s not afraid to break a few bones (though not his own) in pursuit of justice and is only tolerated on the police force as he’d be too dangerous operating on the other side of the law. »

While I’m not a viewer who believes in lowering their standards for a film simply because it might not be heavy on visual metaphors or subtext, I do go into a movie like Blitz with certain expectations. Seeing as this is an action picture whose main concerns are foot chases and people getting shot, some nice thrills, funny moments, and well-choreographed scenes are basically what I want. And, to a certain extent, Blitz delivers those things.
I repeat: to a certain extent.
While I generally found myself willing to go along with what director Elliot Lester and screenwriter Nathan Parker had concocted, there was often the sense that a much more entertaining and smarter version of this same story was lurking right under the surface. The design of it is completely baffling; side characters will come and go without reason, plot elements that are introduced in one scene aren »

It's not a cinematic adaptation of the classic arcade football game, sadly, but Jason Statham's new movie "Blitz" provides about as much cartoonishly manly entertainment as a couple hours with Midway's long running NFL franchise. The tagline of the film reads "Killer-cop versus cop-killer," and it's very possible that is an unabridged copy of the screenplay as well. This is not a movie about dialogue, but about good and bad man alternately glaring at and chasing after each other, and then sitting down for drinks before they get up and run around all over again.
Statham stars as Sgt. Brant, a loose cannon of a cop with a reputation for excessive violence and brutality on the job. He drinks too much, he curses too much, and when he catches some goons jacking a car, he beats them all to within an inch of their lives with a field hockey »

It’s not often that two tough guys like Jason Statham and Paddy Considine share their feelings, but it does happen. And while we don’t know much about Blitz, a new direct-to-dvd actioner starring the pair, we do know that some feelings will be shared in between rounds of ass-kicking. In fact, we’ve got an exclusive clip to debut for you that proves said assertion. Don’t worry though, the trailer for this film also indicates that many a mean person has their face kicked in by a big ole’ Statham boot, so it’s not all therapy sessions. Check out the exclusive, slightly Nsfw (language) clip below: Here’s the official synopsis and trailer for Blitz, which hits DVD, Blu-ray and digital markets on August 23rd: The film stars Jason Statham as Brant, a tough cop with questionable ethics who teams up with Officer Nash (Paddy Considine, The Bourne Ultimatum »

Deadline reported Universal Pictures acquired the remake rights of independent film “Phasma ex Machina” as a pitch for a horror movie called “Our House.” “Our House” has short film director Gary Shore attached to direct the remake and Nathan Parker (“Blitz,” “Moon”) to write the script. “Phasma ex Machina” was retitled as “Ghost From the Machine” last year when it was acquired by Screen Media and released on DVD and VOD. The Matt Osterman-directed film was about a young man raising his younger brother after a car crash took the lives of their parents. He designs a machine to create a bridge between life and death, but the results proved to be dangerous to himself and everyone else. Matt Osterman's directorial debut Phasma Ex Machina, retitled Ghost From the Machine for its stateside DVD release, is getting remade by Universal Pictures.
Gary Shore will direct this new version of the story, with Nathan Parker penning the screenplay. The young man becomes obsessed with bringing his mother and father back from the dead, and creates a machine for the task that threatens his life and the lives of those around him.
Gary Shore will make Phasma Ex Machina before embarking on an adaptation of the James Patterson novel series Maximum Ride.

Another day, another remake. Deadline is reporting that Universal Pictures has acquired remake rights to Matt Osterman's Phasma Ex Machina, originally titled Ghost from the Machine, a Us short film that was released on DVD just last year. Instead of bringing on Osterman to direct, Universal is putting Gary Shore, an up-and-coming director behind The Cup of Tears (trailer for that), in the director's seat for the remake, along with Nathan Parker to write. If all goes as planned, this will be next for Shore before he moves onto any other projects, including a feature version of Cup of Tears. I've never heard of any of this, what gives? I haven't seen Phasma Ex Machina (or heard of it before today) but here's how Deadline describes it. The film "ponders the grey area between life and death and how science can bridge the two. The protagonist is a young »

The studio will be giving the film (originally titled Phasma ex Machina) a big budget remake with Gary Shore attached to direct and Nathan Parker (Moon) on writing duty. A guilt-ridden young man, tasked with raising his younger brother after the death of their parents, plunges himself into the murky science of the supernatural and invents a machine intended to be a conduit to the other side. He eventually reaches an unintended level of success that not only threatens his safety, but also of those around him. He quickly learns that the supernatural isn’t all that super and human nature can even be worse. Ghost from the Machine, which was first released earlier this year, has enjoyed some success in the festival circuit and a limited release in theaters this July, VOD markets, and direct »

Millennium Entertainment’s action film “Blitz” starring Jason Statham, Paddy Considine and Aidan Gillen is about to be available on DVD and Blu-Ray. “Blitz” is based on a novel by Ken Bruen and adapted by Nathan Parker and directed by Elliot Lester. In the film, Statham acts as a hard-nosed cop who is on the hunt for a serial killer: Tough, uncompromising and totally un-pc cop Brant (Statham) joins forces with Officer DC Porter Nash (Considine) to hunt down a serial killer (Gillen) who has been targeting police officers. This fast-paced action-thriller is a raw, gritty tale of moral ambiguity, outsiders and the sacrifices the police make to keep crime off »

A new trailer has been unleashed for Jason Statham's newest action-thriller Blitz. This is the third trailer I've seen for the film, and it looks like it's going to be a fun kick-ass movie. I haven't been the biggest fan of Statham's last few films, but I'm excited to see this one. It was written by Nathan Parker who also scripted the incredible sci-fi film Moon. This film is an adaptation from the novel by Ken Bruen, and Statham plays a tough cop who is dispatched to take down a serial killer who has been targeting police officers.
Synopsis:
The south-east London police squad are suffering collective burnout: with tragic deaths, excessive habits, uncontrollable anger and the wrong kind of friendships, the team never had it so bad. When a serial killer takes his show on the road, things get progressively worse. Nicknamed ‘The Blitz,’ a vicious murderer is »
