Indie Horror Month Video Interview Part Two: Oren Peli Discusses Sequels, Life Changes, Sticking to Your Guns and More for Paranormal Activity

15 March 2012 4:16 PM, PDT | DreadCentral.com | See recent Dread Central news »

In Part One of our video interview series with Paranormal Activity creator Oren Peli, we chatted about the challenges of making a micro-budget indie horror movie and how he knew from the moment original co-stars Katie Featherston and Micah Sloat met that he had something quite special.

We also heard more from Peli about the much-publicized potential remake that DreamWorks and Paramount quickly nixed once they realized what kind of magic Peli and his Pa stars had conjured up while shooting the flick back in 2006.

For Part Two of our exclusive video interview with Peli for Dread Central’s Indie Horror Month, he discusses the intricacies of the unique “Demand It” marketing campaign that Paramount launched for Paranormal Activity during 2009 as well as why he decided to take a step back from directing the highly successful Pa sequels.

Peli also describes just how drastically his life has changed since making Paranormal Activity, »

Indie Horror Month Video Interview Part One: Oren Peli Talks the Ups and Downs of Making Paranormal Activity and More!

14 March 2012 12:00 AM, PDT | DreadCentral.com | See recent Dread Central news »

In 2006 former video game programmer Oren Peli embarked on an ambitious career change: Inspired by the 1999 found footage flick The Blair Witch Project, Peli cast up-and-coming actors Katie Featherston and Micah Sloat for his own found footage fear fest - Paranormal Activity.

A $15,000 micro-budget horror film with a first-time director at the helm and two unknown actors front and center, Peli's Paranormal Activity faced insurmountable odds when it came time to start spreading the word on the film. After being dismissed by a handful of festivals and studio executives alike, Pa was finally nabbed up by a few notable film festivals including Screamfest, Slamdance and the Telluride Film Festival over the course of almost two years.

Eventually Paranormal Activity and Peli caught the attention of the executives at DreamWorks - in particular a certain Mr. Spielberg - and the studio nabbed the flick right up. Thereafter the film made its »

20 Things to Know About Paranormal Activity 3 and the Franchise From Our Afternoon Tea with Oren Peli and the Cast

1 February 2012 4:57 PM, PST | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

There is a lot Paranormal Activity grand maestro Oren Peli won’t talk about. He won’t talk about his long delayed Area 51. He won’t talk about any hypothetical projects or anyone he wants to work with in the future. He won’t give any specifics on his new TV series, The River. And he professes that he has no idea what Paranormal Activity 4 will look like. With this in mind, it is no great shock to announce that a recent afternoon tea with Peli, as well as Christopher Nicholas Smith, Chloe Csengery and Jessica Tyler Brown (all of Paranormal Activity 3) and Micah Sloat and Katie Featherston (stars of the original film) revealed no great secrets about the franchise’s future. Rather, much like the films themselves, it was an afternoon of looking back and filling in the holes and unanswered questions about what came before. »

'Paranormal Activity 3' And What I Learned At My "Tea With Toby"

24 January 2012 11:45 AM, PST | bloody-disgusting.com | See recent Bloody-Disgusting.com news »

Last week Paramount held a "Tea With Toby" at The Roosevelt Hotel in celebrate today's DVD/Blu-ray release of Paranormal Activity 3. What was "Tea With Toby"? It was a press event where I (among other journalists) was summoned to the hotel for a late afternoon Tea. Complete with sandwiches, smoked salmon, little pastries - what I had always imagined Tea being like in England. We were there to discuss the film (and the franchise) with Oren Peli, Katie Featherston, Micah Sloat, Christopher Smith, Chloe Csengery and Jessica Tyler Brown. While it was a breezy and enjoyable 90 minutes, the gracious and polite Peli lived up to his notoriously tight-lipped reputation in regard to any new info on the series. And the cast followed suit. »

Producer Oren Peli discusses Paranormal Activity 3 with his cast during the Tea With Toby event

Friday the 13th is a day that always has a special meaning for fans of the horror genre. Last week on that fateful day, I was invited to a tea party in Hollywood to celebrate the successful horror sequel Paranormal Activity 3, which arrives on Blu-ray and DVD January 24. We were joined by producer Oren Peli, cast members Katie Featherston, Micah Sloat, Christopher Nicholas Smith, Chloe Csengery, and Jessica Brown to discuss the past, present, and future of this successful horror franchise. There was even a seat reserved at the table for the evil spirit Toby, although he didn't say much...

Oren Peli, who directed the first Paranormal Activity and has been on board as a producer in the sequels, revealed the franchise continues to be built one movie at a time.

18 January 2012 2:04 PM, PST | Entertainment Tonight | See recent Entertainment Tonight news »

Paranormal Activity 3 haunts home video on January 23 when it comes to DVD and Blu-ray, and in celebration of its imminent release alongside Paranormal Activity: The Chronology on VOD, the stars and creator of the hit horror franchise assembled at Hollywood's legendary Roosevelt Hotel on Friday the 13th for "Tea with Toby" to reveal production secrets, confess their own fears -- and spill a few beans on Paranormal Activity 4

Complete with pinkies out, series creator Oren Peli, Katie Featherston, Micah Sloat, Christopher Smith, and little girls Chloe Csengery and Jessica Tyler Brown downed tea and crumpets, finger sandwiches and a variety of fruit and cheeses as ETonline and select members of the press waited to see if Toby (the demonic entity from the films) would make his presence known.

Oren and the cast were extremely tight-lipped about Paranormal Activity 4 details, as if Toby himself (or maybe just »

Oren Peli Talks 'Paranormal Activity'… the Musical?!

16 January 2012 1:00 PM, PST | FEARnet | See recent FEARnet news »

Last Friday I spoke with Paranormal Activity creator Oren Peli and actor Micah Sloat – the co-star of Peli's hit found-footage film – about some of the scenes that didn't make it into the film's DVD release but that might their way onto a deluxe box set of all three Paranormal Activity films in the future – including a song or two from Sloat. Peli also talked about some of Paranormal Activity 3's cut scenes that will surface on the film's Blu-ray and DVD release on January 24th. Find out what Peli and Sloat (both of whom are pictured above with Paranormal Activity actress Katie Featherston) had to say after the jump. Regarding Paranormal Activity 3's "Bloody Mary" scene – »
