Star Trek and "Previs" at the Academy

“Visualize This: Previs in the Making of Star Trek,” will be presented by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences' Science and Technology Council on Thursday, November 18, at 8 p.m. at the Academy’s Linwood Dunn Theater in Hollywood. The program will explore the previsualization (previs) process in the digital age. Writer-producer Damon Lindelof will use sequences from the J. J. Abrams' Star Trek "to demonstrate how innovations in previs are influencing the filmmaking process." The evening will feature a panel of Star Trek crew members, including David Dozoretz, senior previsualization supervisor; Brian Pohl, previsualization supervisor; Roger Guyett, visual effects supervisor; Marc Evans, production executive; and film editors Maryann Brandon and Mary Jo Markey. Joining the panel will also be production designer and Council member Alex McDowell and previsualization supervisor Chris Edwards. I’m a huge Star Trek and VFX geek – probably why I like Michael Bay films. I was so pleased when Star Trek took home the Oscar for makeup at the 82nd Academy Awards earlier this year. As you can see from the picture above, yours truly was at the Academy’s Makeup Symposium on Saturday eve of the Oscars. AMPAS sent out this press release on another special Star Trek event at the Academy earlier today.

Kasabian Bass Player To Get On His Bike For Charity

The bass player from British indie rockers Kasabian has sent a message to his fans about a very special charity challenge he is taking part in.

“In September 2010 My Brother and I are to set off on a Monster bike ride from Lands End to John O’Groats to raise money for the Teenage Cancer Trust, and help with the Tct fundraising appeal to develop services for teenagers and young adults in the East Midlands," writes Chris Edwards. Kasabian make Beatles boast

Kasabian claim they are like The Beatles. Frontman Tom Meighan believes he and his bandmates - Serge Pizzorno, Chris Edwards and Ian Matthews - are like the Fab Four because they have obsessive fans who have different "favourites". He said: "I think I get the eccentric fans because we are like The Beatles. Everyone has a favourite. I'm the cocky, honest, Tasmanian Devil one."
