The 1972 photo of then Fr Daly waving a blood-stained handkerchief near one of the Bloody Sunday victims, is one of the most enduring images of the Troubles. At the time, he was a 39-year-old curate at St Eugene's Cathedral in Londonderry, having been a priest in the city since 1962.
