‘Empire’ Cast Reacts to Season Finale Death: ‘It Was Like a Tornado’

21 May 2016 10:14 AM, PDT | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

Fresh off of a suspenseful season finale, the cast of “Empire” hit the red carpet for their second For Your Consideration Emmy event at Fox lot’s Zanuck Theater. The stars said they were still reeling from Wednesday night’s cliffhanger.

Terrence Howard, Taraji P. Henson, Jussie Smollett, Bryshere Y. Gray, Trai Byers, Grace Gealey, Gabourey Sidibe, Ta’Rhonda Jones and Serayah McNeill attended the event on Friday and everyone’s reaction was a mix of excitement, shock and nervousness.

Howard: “Who the hell wrote this and how can I figure out where they’re going next? I loved it because I didn’t know where we were going and as an actor, that’s what you want. You like it when the director doesn’t give you the last 10 pages of the script because then you can’t do an impersonation of yourself and you can’t act like God predicting the future. »

5 TV Shows to Watch If You Love Witches & Everything Supernatural

12 May 2016 10:00 AM, PDT | Moviefone | See recent Moviefone news »

From the Wicked Witch of the West to the sheer terror of "The Witch," our love affair -- or fearful fascination -- with witches endures. And where there are witches, you'll often find their supernatural colleagues, whether viciously murderous werewolves or sexy, glittering vampires. Whatever your poison, TV -- starting with "The Twilight Zone" and trucking on through "Hemlock Grove" -- is always ready to indulge your thirst for the witchy, the spooky, and the macabre.

'Salem' (2014 - )

Let's start with the witchiest of all witch shows -- the Wgn's "Salem" is ready to stock you up on warty noses, frog-based potions, and hexes aplenty. And that's what makes this somewhat campy, horror-tinged drama so shamelessly watchable: It eagerly embraces the world of witches -- including the quasi-historic Salem trials -- and isn't afraid to get downright soap operatic.

Ridiculous? Yes. Gory? Yes. Bloody good fun? You know the answer. »

‘Empire’ Showrunner Reveals There Will Be a Wedding & Marriage This Season

12 April 2016 10:47 AM, PDT | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

Save the date because “Empire” will feature a wedding and a marriage this season, showrunner Ilene Chaiken tells Variety.

Chaiken spilled the scoop Tuesday morning during an interview teasing the upcoming episode — the wedding won’t happen this week, but Chaiken promises it’s coming during the current second season.

“You can expect a wedding and there will be a marriage. We can expect that this season,” she said.

Chaiken did not reveal who will be getting married, but there are many contenders. With no knowledge of the upcoming nuptials, this Variety reporter is laying out a few options:

Cookie (Taraji P. Henson) and Lucious (Terrence Howard): The Lyons have been warming up to each other — the former husband-and-wife duo divorced while Cookie was in jail, but they share three sons and one major music company. Marriage 2.0? Anything is possible. Hakeem (Bryshere Gray) and Laura (Jamilla Velazquez): The »

Posterized: Melissa McCarthy, Unlikely Superstar

8 April 2016 12:00 PM, PDT | FilmExperience | See recent FilmExperience news »

Though Melissa McCarthy's star went supernova just five years ago in a role so popular that she won both an Oscar nomination and an Emmy statue (Bridesmaids... oh please, you know the Emmy wasn't actually for Mike and Molly!) she's wasted approximately zero days since in cementing her unlikely place as a box office titan with star vehicles emerging annually since. Right now that means her new capitalist diva comedy The Boss and if it isn't Spy (2015) or The Heat (2013) level funny (sorry... but few things are) it's not bad. It sure as hell runs rings around Identity Thief (2013) and Tammy (2014) so it's firmly middle of the pack, if you ask me. (It's weird that the reviews so far are the worst of any of her solo vehicles.)

We call her place as a truly bankable actress 'unlikely' because it's just that. Guess how long it's been since audiences »

Movie Review – The Brothers Grimsby (2016)

11 March 2016 12:30 PM, PST | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

The Brothers Grimsby (aka Grimsby), 2016.

Directed by Louis Leterrier.

Starring Sacha Baron Cohen, Mark Strong, Rebel Wilson, Penélope Cruz, Isla Fisher, Gabourey Sidibe, Scott Adkins, Barkhad Abdi, Annabelle Wallis, and Ian McShane.

Synopsis:

A football hooligan tracks down his long-lost brother, a spy for MI6, and they end up on the run from a terrorist organisation.

There are some movies you watch and have absolutely no idea where to even begin assessing. The Brothers Grimsby is definitely one of those flicks; an extreme gross-out comedy putting things on-screen that no one ever needed to see (some of it is so disgusting I will probably never watch the movie again, even though I laughed quite a bit and liked it), but at the end of the day, there is a method to this madness. This isn’t like a modern Adam Sandler comedy where the shock value seems uninspired and lazy, »

The Brothers Grimsby | Review

11 March 2016 11:00 AM, PST | ioncinema | See recent ioncinema news »

This is England: Leterrier Transports Raunchy, Nonsensical Comedy

If Adam Sandler was still interested in generating laughs, he might have eventually turned out something as ridiculous and outré as The Brothers Grimsby, another vehicle designed specifically by and for button pushing star Sacha Baron Cohen, in which he stars as another odd, social misfit bumbling about in his own particularly distressing comedy of errors fashion. Helmed by Louis Leterrier, (now completely divorced from the slickly serious Transporter realm, where he cut his teeth as an acolyte/product of Luc Besson before moving on to Hollywood fare with the 2008 The Incredible Hulk rehash), it’s a completely asinine, adolescently minded bit of perversity. It also happens to have its fair share of shockingly extravagant moments, and these, along with Cohen’s odd penchant for political subtexts and sometimes innocent charm makes his latest offering disarming, and surprisingly funny. Review: Sacha Baron Cohen's Brothers Grimsby Has Plenty of Shocks, Just Not Enough Laughs

11 March 2016 8:15 AM, PST | PEOPLE.com | See recent PEOPLE.com news »

The spectrum of outrageousness in The Brothers Grimsby, Sacha Baron Cohen's uneven new comedy, could be said to be bracketed by two jokes: One is about an elephant's vagina. The other is about Donald Trump getting AIDS. You shouldn't consider either of those spoilers. Think instead that you've been offered the chance to kick the tires on a car before deciding whether you'd feel secure going for a ride. The elephant vagina joke is probably a classic example of the Baron Cohen brand of humor, which should be firmly stamped in the consciousness of anyone who saw Borat or Brüno. »

[Review] The Brothers Grimsby

10 March 2016 11:56 AM, PST | The Film Stage | See recent The Film Stage news »

Crude, cruel, and uncalled-for in the best possible way, The Brothers Grimsby, like The Dictator, marks another evolution away from the guerilla theater that put Sacha Baron Cohen on the map as a sharp critic, provocateur, and button-pusher. His latest feature balances action and comedy, and, as one might expect, there’s a certain inherent cruelty that comes from the stunts. (One sequence involves bad gunshots leading to HIV infections.) While not everything lands — including a joke involving a certain Republican presidential front-runner — there are some gags one won’t be able to unsee for some time, making for a film that mostly delivers — even if you may not be proud of yourself for laughing.

Baron Cohen stars as Nobby Butcher, a nitwit from Grimsby in Northern England and the kind of soccer hooligan Andrea Arnold’s early work cautions against getting involved with. The father of eleven children, yet »
