‘Seventh Son’ Shots Show First Look at Jeff Bridges as a Spook, Julianne Moore as a Mother

14 December 2012 6:23 AM, PST | FilmSchoolRejects.com | See recent FilmSchoolRejects news »

As we all know, any seventh son born of a seventh son is given incredible powers at birth, and it’s that concept that novelist Joseph Delaney culled for his fantasy series “The Wardstone Chronicles.” Warners is turning the first book in that series — “The Spook’s Apprentice” — into a feature film (with hopes to launch a new young adult hit), and they’ve released new images from the October-bound movie. That’s Jeff Bridges playing a Spook named Master Gregory who is teaching Thomas (Ben Barnes) how to battle evil, which is pictured below in the form of Julianne Moore as Mother Malkin. You think they’d want to avoid propagating vicious stereotypes against gingers, but apparently they’re comfortable with it. Isn’t it incredible how creepy someone can look when you shave their eyebrows off? She looks like Voldemort and Lindsay Lohan copulated on top of a stack of Weekly World News issues with »

I don't know if you've ever seen Mongol. It's a superb film, well paced and full of the sort of cinematography that turns landscape into visual poetry. Well that film, an Oscar contender back when it was released, was directed by Sergei Bodrov.  And for his first English language trick, Bodrov elected to direct Jeff Bridges and Julianne Moore in an adaptation of the Young Adult novel Spook's Apprentice by Joseph Delaney.  Retitled as Seventh Son, all we've seen from the »

Mongol director Sergei Bodrov is behind the adaptation, and now we have a couple of first look photos from the movie featuring Barnes as Thomas with his sorcerer teacher Spook, played by Jeff Bridges, and Julianne Moore as Mother Malkin, a powerful witch. This could be a fun for Bridges and Moore, but these kind of films always have to climb from behind the shadows of Harry Potter to really get noticed. First Look at Jeff Bridges, Ben Barnes and Julianne Moore in The Seventh Son

3 December 2012 8:58 AM, PST | Beyond Hollywood | See recent Beyond Hollywood news »

I’ve never read Joseph Delaney’s “The Spook’s Apprentice”, so I have no idea what the film version of the book, “The Seventh Son” is all about. Thankfully, USAToday was kind enough to include a helpful synopsis of the book and upcoming film below. It stars Jeff Bridges as some kind of uber wizard, with Ben Barnes of “Chronicles of Narnia” fame playing his new protege. Plus, Julianne Moore as red-headed witch who is apparently a real bitch. Check out some pics from the film. Based on the young-adult novel The Spook’s Apprentice by Joseph Delaney,Seventh Son casts Bridges as Master John Gregory, a “Spook” who imprisoned the evil witch Mother Malkin (Julianne Moore) centuries before. Gregory’s getting into the twilight of his years and the apprentices he keeps trying to recruit don’t last very long, which becomes a serious problem for him when »

Coldplay Drummer Lands Game of Thrones Gig

When arguably the most popular fantasy series in history needs to cast a musician, they go all out. HBO’s Game of Thrones has made a date with a member of Coldplay!

Will Champion provides the drums for Coldplay, the rock group led by Chris Martin. Now EW has announced that he has been cast in a upcoming role on Game of Thrones. Apparently, the character they sought to cast is a drummer. So, where better to get a man who knows his way around percussion than from a hugely popular musical group? It doesn’t hurt that Champion is British either. He won’t need vocal coach to pin down the accent. Let’s hope he can act a little.

We will meet Champion’s character in season three. He isn’t the only popular musician that’s been called upon to grace the TV series. Snow Patrol’s lead singer, »

Hence, a new Warcraft screenplay from Charles Leavitt.Last we heard, a script was being hammered out by Robert Rodat (Saving Private Ryan), but whether Leavitt will be continuing his work or starting entirely from scratch is unclear. Leavitt turned heads at Legendary with his work on Seventh Son, based (very loosely) on Joseph Delaney's kids' fantasy novel The Spook's Apprentice. Legendary will be hoping he can work similar magic with the Alliance and the Horde.World Of Warcraft, should you somehow be unaware, is a multiplayer online fantasy role-playing game, currently being played by about nine million subscribers. In Season Two of the HBO smash drama Game of Thrones, Jon Snow becomes a true warrior. Over at The Daily Beast, you can read my latest feature, entitled "Game of Thrones' Emo Hero," in which I sit down with Kit Harington and talk about playing Jon Snow, fame, what’s to come in Season Two, Ygritte, Samwell, and why he refuses to wear a wig. Within the harsh world of HBO’s fantasy series Game of Thrones, based on George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire novels, you either live by the sword or you die by it. In the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros, court is a deadly pit of vipers, with each of the titular game’s players scheming and manipulating their way to higher realms of power and influence. Not everyone is engaged in these sordid power plays. Bastard-born Jon Snow is a child of the North, »
