Bill Lee steps down at Alchemy

In a sudden leadership shuffle on Monday that caught insiders by surprise, the board of the fast-rising distributor has appointed Kelly Summers and Scott Guthrie as co-presidents.

Bill Lee has stepped down immediately. The former CEO was the face of the company and presided over its rise as an ambitious multi-platform distributor after he partnered with Virgo Investment Group in August 2014 to buy out previous incarnation Millennium Entertainment.

According to an announcement sent out on behalf of Alchemy on Monday, Lee will continue to consult to Alchemy’s board and investor.

Guthrie will be responsible for leading sales, operations and finance operations while Summers will oversee strategic planning, marketing and production and acquisitions.

Guthrie most recently served as Alchemy’s COO while Summers was svp of strategy and financial planning. Both have extensive studio and entertainment executive experience and will report to chairman of the board Jesse Watson.

Independent distribution specialist Alchemy has promoted Kelly Summers and Scott Guthrie to the posts of co-presidents while CEO Bill Lee has stepped down.

Lee will continue as adviser to the board and investor in Alchemy. Its higher profile titles have included  “Meet the Patels,” “Fading Gigolo” and “What Maisie Knew.”

“It has a been a privilege to lead Alchemy and work alongside some of the best leaders in the business,” Lee said. “After many years with the company, it’s time to hand over the reins to a new team of talented executives. I look forward to working with the Board and our team to ensure a smooth transition.”

Guthrie will be responsible for leading sales, operations and finance and Summers will oversee strategic planning, marketing and production/acquisitions. Both will report to Chairman Jesse Watson.

Alchemy boosts board, hires strategy and planning exec

Pat Fitzgerald and Mitch Lowe have joined the board of directors while Kelly Summers arrives as svp of strategy and planning.

Fitzgerald brings more than 30 years of experience in various sectors including stints at Apple iTunes and Walt Disney Studios, Citibank Caribbean & Latin America. He currently consults under his company Go Forward Inc.

Lowe has held leading executive roles and was COO then president of Redbox and vp of business development at Netflix.

Summers most recently ran her consulting agency Bella Rafe Media and before that served in executive roles at Disney that included vp of worldwide digital distribution. She will report to Alchemy evp of operations Jim Jenkins.
