First look: This is 'The Voice' ... as a video game?

10 September 2014 1:00 PM, PDT | EW.com - PopWatch | See recent EW.com - PopWatch news »

Have you ever thought, “I could do better” while watching starry-eyed hopefuls bleat and croon on NBC’s The Voice? Get ready to back your claim. Arriving on Oct. 21 (Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii, Wii U), Activision’s The Voice will give armchair Aguileras the opportunity to see who can annoy neighbors the least.

Featuring solo and multi-player modes, as well as progression tiers—Blind Auditions, Battle Rounds, and the Big Finale—that should be familiar to fans of the show, the game looks to favor fun over fierce competition. While the final track list is buttoned-up tighter than one of Adam Levine’s shirts, »

U2 Free Album Giveaway on iTunes - Songs Of Innocencea Gift to U2.Com Subscribers, Too

10 September 2014 9:22 AM, PDT | National Ledger | See recent National Ledger news »

U2's next album won't cost you a cent - the rock and roll band is giving away their 13th studio album for free. The Irish rockers - made up of Bono, The Edge, Adam Clayton and Larry Mullen Jr - have made their latest offering 'Songs Of Innocence' available cost-free to over a half a billion U2.com subscribers and all iTunes Music Store customers. The autobiographical record features collaborations with Ryan Tedder, Lykke Li, Danger Mouse and Paul Epworth and is intended to reflect the band's varying styles and influences over the decades. The album kicks off by paying homage to the early influence of The Ramones on the band in their track 'The Miracle', before revisiting a Clash gig they attended in 1977 in 'This Is Where You Can Reach Me'. 'California' is a nod to The Beach Boys, while 'Song for Someone' was written for the rockers by Bono's wife, »

Album review: U2's 'Songs of Innocence'

9 September 2014 1:31 PM, PDT | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

Taking a trick from Beyonce’s playbook, U2 dropped its 13th studio album, “Songs of Innocence,” today without warning. The Irish band made the announcement at Apple’s event in Cupertino, Calif. The aptly named “Songs of Innocence,” produced by Danger Mouse, with additional production by Ryan Tedder, Paul Epworth, Flood, and Declan Gaffney, is a song cycle that draws on the band members’ past— a time when they first met and everything was possible. It pays tribute to their influences (The Ramones, The Clash, The Beach Boys), first loves, growing up in the shadow of Ira violence, and the fallout of tough economic times. Bono’s vocals sound fresh and invigorated and the production sparkles. It’s a lovely album that is sentimental without ever losing its edge. Below is a first-listen review: my take on each song by only listening to it once as I play the album straight through. »

Album review: Maroon 5's 'V' presents pristine pop

31 August 2014 1:01 PM, PDT | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

The Voice” has probably helped no one’s career as much as coach Adam Levine and his band, Maroon 5. While they certainly weren’t dormant, the NBC talent reality show revived the band and brought them back to a level they hadn’t seen since their breakthrough, 2002’s “Songs About Jane.” Ever since 2011’s “Moves Like Jagger,” featuring fellow sometimes “Voice” coach Christina Aguilera, Maroon 5 has seldom been of a pop or AC chart. Just as Maroon 5 did on its last album, 2012’s “Overexposed,” for new set, “V,” the group also enlisted a phalanx of hit songwriters and producers —  Ryan Tedder, Shellback, Dr. Luke, Sia, Stargate, Benny Blanco— to come up with the poppiest of pop material. The result is a shiny, pristine album that sounds great, if a little anodyne and generic. Maroon 5’s self-penned earliest hits like “This Love” and “Harder To Breathe” were less well-crafted, »

Jeff Bridges Remembers His Friend Robin Williams at ‘The Giver’ Premiere

12 August 2014 12:50 PM, PDT | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

The shocking news of Robin Williams’ death broke just moments before the stars of “The Giver” walked down the red carpet at New York’s Ziegfeld Theater on Monday night, casting a shadow over the film’s world premiere.

Jeff Bridges, who appeared with Williams in 1991’s “The Fisher King,” addressed the audience before the movie rolled. “I’m filled with such mixed emotions tonight,” said Bridges, a star and producer of the Weinstein Co. and Walden Media release. “I play the Giver, who is supposed to hold in his emotions, but it’s very difficult for me to be here … losing a dear, dear friend, Robin Williams. I know we’ll all miss him. My heart goes out to his family.” Bridges then said he could feel Williams’ presence in the room, telling him: “Get on with it, Bridges.”

Harvey Weinstein, who produced “The Giver,” also made 1997’s “Good Will Hunting. »

'Voice' Winner Tessanne Chin on Album's Quiet Release: 'Unfortunately We Couldn't Help That' (Q&A)

27 July 2014 7:49 PM, PDT | The Hollywood Reporter | See recent The Hollywood Reporter news »

It's been a "whirlwind" of a year for Tessanne Chin — in December, the season-five champ of The Voice won viewers over with power ballads and reggae-rock songs while under Adam Levine's wing, breaking fellow coach Blake Shelton's three-peat winning streak, earning the first commissioned track from the show's in-house songwriter and producer, OneRepublic's Ryan Tedder, and previewing what could be the first major Top 40 breakout for the NBC singing show. Fast forward to July 1, and despite Chin's soaring notes on the Tedder-penned "Tumbling Down," as well as the other nine tracks

OneRepublic's latest video is full of new footage from 'The Giver'

26 July 2014 10:24 AM, PDT | EW - Inside Movies | See recent EW.com - Inside Movies news »

Pop band OneRepublic have a new song on The Giver soundtrack, and the preview video for it is chock full of footage from the film. The song, called “Ordinary Human,” is strangely bright and cheery when juxtaposed with footage from a movie about a society devoid of all emotions and feelings (but maybe they’re just being meta, man). If you never read the book in grade school, beware: The video is more or less a highlight reel of the entire plot and might be considered spoiler-y.

Maroon 5 returns with driving new single, 'Maps'

Maroon 5’s new single, “Maps,” may cover new terrain geographically as lead singer/“The Voice” coach Adam Levine vows to search the globe for his lost love, but musically it stays pretty much in the group’s sweet spot with catchy verses and a striking vocal performance from Levine. The song, the first single from the group’s forthcoming album, “V,”  does strike a bit of a blend between its edgy pop and the Police’s thumping beats and guitar lines, and some cool chanting and goes for an overall atmospheric sense building urgency. “I was there for you in your darkest times/I was there for you in your darkest nights/But I wonder where were you when I was at my worst/Down on my knees and you said you had my back/So I wonder where were you/All the roads you took came back to »
