79 Oscar-Eligible Songs: An Opinionated Guide to an Awesome Year for Movie Music

23 December 2014 12:42 PM, PST | The Wrap | See recent The Wrap news »

When it comes to cultural impact, mega-sales and drama, this year’s Best Original Song category at the Academy Awards is going to have an awfully difficult time competing with last year’s category.

The 2013 winner, you might remember, was “Let It Go,” the anthem from “Frozen” that became a hit around the world and spawned a zillion amateur YouTube renditions.

See photos: 15 Movies You Already Forgot About: TheWrap’s Best & Worst 2014 (Photos)

And “Let It Go” was joined as a nominee by another song that was so ubiquitous that most sentient human beings got sick of hearing it before the Oscars – Pharrell Williams’ “Happy, »

14 things we learned from Madonna about the 'Rebel Heart' surprise

22 December 2014 1:52 AM, PST | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

In case you missed it, Madonna pulled off a holiday surprise late Friday night and released six new singles from her upcoming album "Rebel Heart."  This was in response to the entire album being leaked by hackers on Wednesday, Dec. 17.  And, earlier in December, three other unfinished tracks found their way onto the net. In truth, those were unfinished demo tracks, but  it forced Madonna and her label into action in what can only be described as a "partial Beyonce." No, the entire album with accompanying music videos wasn't released out of the blue, but six "finished" tracks were and, in some corners, the internet exploded. Unlike Madonna's previous albums, these tracks immediately made an impact on iTunes.  Within 12 hours it was the no. 1 album in the Us and in 40 other countries.  And, late Sunday night, it was still no. 1.  Now naysayers can say it was a busy holiday weekend »

Madonna Releases Part of New Album Rebel Heart

20 December 2014 9:00 AM, PST | PEOPLE.com | See recent PEOPLE.com news »

Madonna pulled a Beyoncé! Well, sort of. Not even a week after demos leaked from her upcoming LP, Rebel Heart, Madonna surprised fans by releasing six new songs overnight on Friday, much like Beyoncé did with her self-titled 2013 effort. "X-mas is coming early! Pre order my album and download 6 tracks! Happy Holidays!" the pop icon, 56, wrote on Instagram in a post of the album cover. The megastar teamed up with hit-makers including producer and OneRepublic frontman Ryan Tedder, Diplo and even Kanye West on the first songs off the album. And Nicki Minaj even makes an appearance, offering one of »

Madonna Compares Album Leak to 'Rape' and 'Terrorism'

17 December 2014 11:34 AM, PST | Entertainment Tonight | See recent Entertainment Tonight news »

Madonna is really upset about this album leak situation.

Several leaked songs hit the web this week – and by several, we mean a full album's worth -- before Madonna was even able to announce a release date or album title for her next studio effort. The 56-year-old has dismissed the tracks as "unfinished demos stolen long ago," but she's still fighting mad at the perp who released them.

News: Madonna Continues Her Three-Decade Run as the Face of Versace

"This is artistic rape!" she wrote in a since-deleted Instagram post on Wednesday. "These are early leaked demos, half of which won't even make it on my album. The other half have changed and evolved. This is a form of terrorism. Wtf!!!! Why do people want to destroy artistic process??? Why steal? Why not give me the opportunity to finish and give you my very best?"

Fleur East confirms "bigger and better" Uptown Funk final performance

12 December 2014 3:51 AM, PST | Digital Spy | See recent Digital Spy - TV news news »

Fleur East has confirmed that she will perform 'Uptown Funk' again during The X Factor final this weekend.

The singer topped the iTunes chart last week after delivering an impressive performance of Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars's new single in last weekend's semi-final.

Taking time out of rehearsals at Wembley Stadium, East revealed on ITV's This Morning that she would be performing the song once more on Saturday night (December 13), having chosen it as her performance of the series with mentor Simon Cowell.

Admitting that she had set herself a challenge to perform it for a second time, East promised that the finals performance would be "bigger and better".

Her rendition of 'Uptown Funk' proved so popular that Ronson's label rush-released the track, bringing forward its release by five weeks to meet demand.

The original has since gone straight to number one on iTunes, and is on course to »

Strictly Come Dancing: Pixie Lott and Trent Whiddon exit competition

7 December 2014 12:19 PM, PST | Digital Spy | See recent Digital Spy - TV news news »

Pixie Lott and her professional partner Trent Whiddon have become the tenth couple to be eliminated from Strictly Come Dancing.

The pair found themselves in the dance-off against Simon Webbe and Kristina Rihanoff, after the judges' overall scores from last night's (December 6) show were combined with the viewers' votes.

Webbe and Rihanoff performed their American Smooth to Michael Bublé's 'Heartache Tonight', before Lott and Whiddon did the cha-cha to the Glee version of 'Love Shack'.

Craig Revel Horwood and Bruno Tonioli voted to save Lott and Whiddon, but Darcey Bussell wanted to keep Webbe and Rihanoff in the competition, meaning head judge Len Goodman had the deciding vote.

Goodman eventually sent Lott and Whiddon home, explaining: "I have to judge this on this one dance that I have seen - not what has been in the past [or] what my expectations are in the future."

David Guetta – Listen Review

25 November 2014 10:29 PM, PST | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Giving the deluxe version of superstar DJ and producer David Guetta’s new album a spin, it soon becomes clear why previously released promo singles “Bad” and”‘Shot Me Down” are kept apart from the main body of Listen and repackaged as bonus tracks.

Inspired by Cher’s “Bang Bang (My Baby Shot Me Down),” later covered by Nancy Sinatra and then pushed into peoples’ hearts via Quentin Tarantino’s Kill Bill Volume 1 – the Frenchman gives the classic song a new twist. Alongside Skylar Grey, “Shot Me Down” sees the decades-old track enveloped by Guetta’s rampant, pulsating club sounds for a modern, worthwhile remake. Not content with hooking up with Grey again on the darker, primal “Rise,” “Bad” featuring Showtek and Vassy, also races towards the dance floor with its thumping bassline and laser sharp synths.

In short, the handful of cuts stuck onto the end of Listen are »
