Healthcare Doc ‘Bending the Arc,’ Exec Produced by Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, Gets U.S. Release (Exclusive)

Abramorama has acquired U.S. theatrical rights to the healthcare documentary “Bending the Arc,” with Matt Damon and Ben Affleck as executive producers.

The film, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival this year, will open on Oct. 6 in New York, followed by a release to Boston, Washington, D.C., Los Angeles, and select cities across the U.S.

The movie is directed by Kief Davidson, whose credits include “The Ivory Game” and “A Lego Brickumentary,” and Pedro Kos, an editor on “Waste Land” and “The Island President.” The producer is Cori Shepherd Stern (“Open Heart,” “Warm Bodies”).

The film centers on three Harvard med students — Jim Kim, current president of the World Bank; Paul Farmer; and Ophelia Dahl — who became pioneers of global health by inventing an international framework for fighting diseases such as tuberculosis, AIDS, Sars, and Ebola.

Tribeca 2017 Lineup: The Obamas’ Virtual Reality White House Tour Leads Experimental Storytelling Program

The 16th annual Tribeca Film Festival announced today its lineup of immersive films, including 29 Vr and interactive projects in its Storyscapes and Virtual Arcade exhibits. Tribeca was one of the first U.S. festivals to showcase experimental storytelling projects, and as such the festival attracts world premieres from some of the vastly growing industry’s leading creators and studios.

Highlights include a virtual reality tour of the White House led by Barack and Michelle Obama; a new Vr collaboration from Chris Milk and by Pharell Williams; a mystery starring Emily Mortimer and Alessandro Nivola from interactive studio Eko; and a multidisciplinary exploration of women of color’s experience through the lens of technology, society and culture, titled “NeuroSpeculative AfroFeminism.”

World-premiere virtual reality projects including Kathryn Bigelow’s look at rangers at a poacher-beseiged African park and an immersive experience tied to India’s biggest movie franchise are among the works on tap for the Vr and interactive component of the 2017 Tribeca Film Festival’s slate.

The newly announced additions to the festival’s overall slate encompass the six entries in Storyscapes, the competitive section of programming dedicated to the intersection of film, tech and storytelling, along with the 23 titles lined up for the festival’s Virtual Arcade. Storyscapes titles range from personal projects such as “Draw Me Close,” Jordan Tannahill’s memoir about his relationship with his mother; to Hyphen-Labs’ scifi-themed entry “NeuroSpeculative AfroFeminism”; to an immersive recording of a Holocaust survivor’s testimony in Gabo Arora and Ari Palitz’s “The Last Goodbye.”
