Alien Undead (The Dark Lurking) and When Zombies in Space Goes Wrong: A Movie Review

*spoilers ahead.

Director/writer: Gregory Connors.

Cast: Tonia Renee, Bret Kennedy and Ozzie Devrish.

The premise in Alien Undead aka The Dark Lurking is quite simple: all the survivors have to do is to get out alive. When this tale is set in the world of science fiction, all this movie has to do is to have the heroes call for help, find the Starship Enterprise (the ship here brings forth recollections of the Red Dwarf) and call for Scotty to beam them up. Nobody at Outpost 30 even knows their fate, but that certainly will not stop them from trying to make it up to the surface. Maybe if the eight survivors can get out of the hut,

DVD Review: Alien Undead

Alien Undead

Stars: Tonia Renee, Bret Kennedy, Gregory Connors, Ozzie Devrish, Roslyn van Doorn | Written and Directed by Greg Connors

Originally began in 2006, and completed in 2008 (at least according to the copyright info), Alien Undead was originally released as The Dark Lurking in its native Australia, and Aliens vs. Zombies in Germany (perhaps a more fitting title given UK distributor Left Films other DVD releases – Cowboys vs. Zombies and Ninjas Vs. Vampires). This low budget Aussie-lensed sci-fi horror movie tells the story of eight people trapped in a secret underground research facility, at the mercy of a horde of terrifying zombie-like creatures. With supplies and weapons running low the survivors must put aside their differences and band together in order to find out way out alive. However the constantly mutating monstrous hordes are not their only problem, an ancient evil has been unleashed and one of them may not be

Vigilante and Action: A Movie Review

Vigilante DVD CoverDirector/writer: Aash Aaron.

Vigilante is an Australian shot revenge thriller, which was released by Mti Home Video back in late March of this year. This was director Aash Aaron's first screenplay to make the big screen and his first time in the director's chair. So, flaws abound in this ultra-violent action piece, but the film has entertainment value shown in the fight choreography and in a sincere attempt to add in a moral perspective. Canadian film reviewer Judge Power says of the film: "there's no trace of charm or ingenuity to be had" (DVD Verdict). Yet, the film is not so gloomy as this and in fact Vigilante has some low budget charm; also, there are three above average performances by the villains: Alex (Kazuya Wright), Jack (Ozzie Devrish), and Mako (Christian Radford). Also, a few minors errors hamper the film's complete success.
