New poster for The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies, budget for the trilogy swells to $745 million

23 hours ago | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Amid reports that the budget of Peter Jackson’s Hobbit trilogy has swelled to a whopping $745 million (compared to $297 million for The Lord of the Rings), a rather fine new poster for the final chapter, The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies, has arrived online, and we’ve got it for you here…

The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies brings to an epic conclusion the adventures of Bilbo Baggins, Thorin Oakenshield and the Company of Dwarves. Having reclaimed their homeland from the Dragon Smaug, the Company has unwittingly unleashed a deadly force into the world. Enraged, Smaug rains his fiery wrath down upon the defenseless men, women and children of Lake-town.

Obsessed above all else with his reclaimed treasure, Thorin sacrifices friendship and honor to hoard it as Bilbo’s frantic attempts to make him see reason drive the Hobbit towards a desperate and dangerous choice. But »

Billy Boyd to sing the end credits song for The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies

20 October 2014 12:58 PM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Billy Boyd and company were responsible for one of the most suspense filled and dramatic moments in the original Lord of the Rings trilogy.  Pippin’s heartful rendition of ‘The Edge of Night’ is one of my favourite moments and one of the best original songs to come out of the series. With that in mind it is no surprise young Peregrin Took has been invited back to test his vocal chords once again.

A recent announcement suggests that Lord of the Ring’s Pippin – a.k.a. Billy Boyd – will be taking on the challenge of singing the final Hobbit credits song. Considering previous Hobbit original songs have not quite lived up to the reputation of Oscar-winning Lotr songs like Annie Lennox’s ‘Into the West’, Boyd has the chance to make a real mark and round off the latest trilogy in award-winning style.

Peter Jackson explains how he’s expanding the source material for The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies

28 September 2014 2:59 PM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

With less than three months to go before we return to Middle-earth for the final instalment of The Hobbit trilogy, Peter Jackson has been talking to Total Film about the upcoming The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies, and specifically how he’s expanding the source material in order to provide a suitably epic climax to his Lord of the Rings prequel.

“We’re developing more story with the elves and with Gandalf. We’re developing the character of Bard the Bowman. We’re able to expand what was there, bring in a little bit extra to the mythology and open it up a bit. What we’re trying to do is have a lot of that conflict and resolution happen during the course of the battle, so it doesn’t just become all action. There’s still a plot with the characters to follow, even though they’re »

Desolation of Smaug Extended Edition Coming in November

6 August 2014 7:08 AM, PDT | Cinelinx | See recent Cinelinx news »

As has been the case with all of Peter Jackson's films (especially where Middle-Earth is concerned), the previous The Hobbit film, The Desolation of Smaug is getting an extended edition.  Warner Bros. have now announced the details on the upcoming blu-ray, which includes 25 minutes of extra footage, and you'll be able to get it in your hands just in time for the final film in the trilogy.  Come inside to check out all the details!

I loved the Extended Edition versions of all the Lord of the Rings films.  They were great and added in some content that genuinely fleshed out characters and storylines...Yet, I've had very little interest in seeing more of The Hobbit films.  For the most part, this is due to the fact that I feel The Hobbit films have been bloated from the get-go.  There are plenty of scenes in both of these movies »
