Review: Final Recall (2017)

Review: Final Recall (2017)
After a brief opening scene in space where an incident affects two astronauts, Final Recall begins on familiar ground with a cabin in the woods style horror, as five friends take a vacation. With no preconceptions regarding the dangers of snooping, they find themselves stumbling into trouble with a local woodlander called Hunter (Wesley Snipes), whom they only just manage to avoid. Retreating to the safety of their cabin, it is not long before a mysterious storm starts to appear in the sky. It’s going to be a long night and they will soon realise there are worse things to fear in the woods.

Final Recall has some interesting ideas but with the film constantly changing, it’s difficult to know what they are trying to achieve. The first part of the film works well as a horror, with plenty of tension building between the group and Hunter due to their own naivety.

The Bottom Shelf: Dreamscape, House Of 1000 Corpses, C.H.U.D 2: Bud The C.H.U.D

Nick Aldwinckle Sep 4, 2017

Our latest round-up of horror and genre DVDs and Blu-rays...

So: with season two of Stranger Things fast approaching, a remake of Stephen King’s It set to mildly trouble a whole new generation and, erm, the on-going threat of nuclear armageddon, it seems everything eighties is 'in' at the moment. And, you know what? That surely must include Dennis Quaid, right? Well, maybe not, unless you count this year’s canine reincarnation/multiple hound-homicide horror A Dog’s Purpose, which we don’t in these parts. Anyway, Quaid’s back in Blu-ray form with the recent repackaging of his 1984 quirky fantasy thriller Dreamscape.

Nicely sandwiched between the release of Jaws 3-D and Enemy Mine, surely two of the most Quaidessential (sorry) films of the decade, Dreamscape sees our hero take on the mantle of a cheaper Harrison Ford, burdened with psychic powers that he must use

A group of friends are spending the weekend at a cabin while, unbeknownst to them, aliens have begun to attack planet Earth. A number of them are abducted by the alien spaceship hovering over the forest. Annie and Charlie survive the mass-abduction and must rely on an eccentric and dangerous hunter who seems to have special knowledge of the attack. “The Hunter” goes on explaining that this day has been prophesized for years and extra-terrestrials have been guiding Earth’s evolution in preparation for their ultimate takeover.

Poor old Wesley Snipes. He’s had a tough time of it in the last decade. He never quite managed to capitalise fully on the success of the first two Blade films. He’d become bankable up to that point,

Official Trailer for Sci-Fi Thriller 'The Recall' Featuring Wesley Snipes

"The last 60 years they've been conducting test runs..." Minds Eye Entertainment has unveiled an official trailer for a sci-fi thriller titled The Recall, from Italian concept artist/filmmaker Mauro Borrelli. The film is about a group of friends vacationing at a remote cabin lake house when aliens attack Earth. Soon they meet a mysterious "hunter" who has been predicting the alien's arrival, helping them escape safely. Wesley Snipes plays that hunter and the cast includes Rj Mitte, Jedidiah Goodacre, Vicellous Shannon, Niko Pepaj, Elisha Kriis, Hannah Rose May, Laura Bilgeri, and Guy Griffithe. This looks like a wacky, terrible, straight-to-vhs flick you'd find in the back of the video rental store. But oddly it's going to play in the special ultra-wide-screen Barco Escape cinemas. At least there's some creepy aliens. So, anyone? Here's the first official trailer (+ poster) for Mauro Borrelli's The Recall, direct from YouTube: The Recall centers

Matlin’s comments came today at the first-ever (and long overdue) Disability Inclusion Roundtable held in Beverly Hills, where Matlin, Rj Mitte, Dan…
