Edward Gunawan won the Jury Award for Best Director (Short Film) for "Laundromat" at the 19th CLIP: Tampa LGBT Film Festival. "Laundromat" also won the Audience Award for Best Short Film at the Fresno LGBT Film Festival.
Was law school-bound when he graduated from University of Southern California in Political Science and Communications with Honors, but a writing and performing for theater workshop changed the course of his life.
After earning a scholarship to the East West Players Acting conservatory in Los Angeles, CA (USA), Edward successfully made his professional theater debut at the East West Player's main-stage hit show "The Joy Luck Club" in 2008.
"Miss Indonesia" (O/T: "Nona Indonesia"), a feature-length screenplay he co-wrote with Lucky Kuswandi, won the Best Feature Screenplay at the 2006 Jakarta International Film Festival Script Development Competition, sponsored by the Hubert Bals Fund of Rotterdam International Film Festival.
Was a Project:Involve filmmaking fellow with Academy Award-winner Chris Tashima as his mentor at Film Independent in Los Angeles, CA (USA).
Also holds a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) degree.
