Drive (2011): First Seven (7) Minutes Movie Clip: Ryan Gosling

Drive First Seven Minutes. The first 7 minutes movie clip of Nicolas Winding Refn‘s Drive (2011) stars Ryan Gosling, Carey Mulligan, Bryan Cranston, Ron Perlman, and Christina Hendricks. Drive‘s plot synopsis: “A Hollywood stunt driver (Ryan Gosling) who usually keeps to himself and moonlights as a wheelman discovers that a contract has been put on him by a local mob boss after a heist that goes wrong.”

We previously posted the Drive (2011) Red Band Movie Trailer and reviewed the film here: Film Review: Drive (2011).

On the first seven minutes of Drive:

This clip doesn’t get into the meat of the plot, but it does offer up a nice taste of Drive‘s considerable charms, including Gosling’s withdrawn lead performance, Bryan Cranston‘s turn as Gosling’s accomplice, the seedy Los Angeles setting, the ’80s-inflected soundtrack, and the delectably tense vibe. Oh, and of course, some actual stunt driving.

Film Review: Drive (2011): Nicolas Winding Refn, Ryan Gosling

Drive (2011) Film Review, a movie directed by Nicolas Winding Refn and starring Ryan Gosling, Carey Mulligan, Bryan Cranston, Ron Perlman, Christina Hendricks, Oscar Isaac, Albert Brooks, Tina Huang, Joe Pingue, Cesar Garcia, James Biberi, Jeff Wolfe, Sarah Adela Tirado, Christian Cage, and Tiara Parker.

A minimalist film with Hollywood production attributes is almost an oxymoron. It is rare that they can co-exist together harmoniously but that unique situation is present in Drive.

The cinematography and palette in Drive are similar to Michael Mann’s Heat, except with Drive, during a few scenes, there is a elaborate and exquisite setup involved e.g. the stripper dressing room scene.

Though the scenes eventually explain themselves, there is no elaboration for what Driver (Ryan Gosling) wears. The yellow scorpion sigil on Driver’s white jacket is always a question, as most of the time, Driver wears it and it is prominently shown. It means something,

Drive (2011) Red Band Movie Trailer: Nicolas Winding Refn

Drive Red Band Trailer. Nicolas Winding Refn‘s Drive (2011) red band movie trailer stars Ryan Gosling, Carey Mulligan, Bryan Cranston, Ron Perlman, and Christina Hendricks. Drive‘s plot synopsis: “A Hollywood stunt driver (Ryan Gosling) who usually keeps to himself and moonlights as a wheelman discovers that a contract has been put on him by a local mob boss after a heist that goes wrong.”

This looks like everything The Transporter isn’t: intense, serious with absolutely no cheese. Also glad producers have noticed Christina Hendricks and are using her more in their films.

Drive also stars Oscar Isaac, Albert Brooks, Tina Huang, Joe Pingue, Cesar Garcia, James Biberi, Jeff Wolfe, Sarah Adela Tirado, Christian Cage, and Tiara Parker.

DVD Releases: September 28, 2010: Frozen King Kong is a Madman at FrightFest

After a couple of light on horror weeks, we are finally treated to a bumper crop of new releases. Headlining the week is Frozen, which is just what we in Southern California need to stave off our current heat wave. A couple of oldies but goodies are out, too, as Madman celebrates its Happy 30th Birthday and the original King Kong comes to Blu-ray. Fangoria's eight FrightFest titles bow as well.

Frozen

Directed by Adam Green

In Frozen (review), Adam Green has crafted a potent combination of absolute terror and compelling human drama that will stick with you long after you've left the theatre or turned off the DVD. One thing's for sure: The next time your friends invite you on a ski weekend, odds are you'll try to convince them to head to the beach instead. Frozen stars Shawn Ashmore, Emma Bell and Kevin Zegers.

Buy the Blu-ray or the regular DVD.

Grab a Spear and Go on a Pig Hunt

Pig Hunt wrapped up some film festival coverage in 2009 by attending the Chicago Horror Film Festival and the film has been released already in the United Kingdom, but what of North America? The film, unfortunately, does not have North American distribution yet, despite being completed in 2008 in Boonville California. That is right, an American made horror film has been released in the United Kingdom before North America. How is that for globalization?

In the trailer there is much action, much bumbling, and some good laughs, as a group of rednecks terrorize some city-slickers. Check out the 3000 lb boar below.

The synopsis for Pig Hunt here:

"When John takes his friends to a remote ranch for a wild pig hunt, it seems like a typical guys weekend with guns, despite the presence of John's sexy girlfriend. But as John and his crew trek deeper into the forest, they learn of a legendary,

Report and pics from Fango-hosted Pig Hunt La premiere

Fango hosted the West Coast premiere of director Jim Isaac’s Pig Hunt last night at the Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood, CA, and brought back a handful of photos (see them below), as well as an inherently warm feeling, given the festivities and the raucous audience response the flick received. Kicking off with an actual pig roast and hour-long set by Pig Hunt actor and celebrated blues musician Charlie Musslewhite, the event saw a packed courtyard and house.

On hand were Pig Hunt scripter Robert Mailer Anderson and director Isaac (pictured in first photo, who introduced the screening with Fango), plus cast members Travis Aaron Wade, Tina Huang, Howard Johnson Jr., Trevor Bullock, Rajiv Shah, Jason Foster, Nick Tagas and actor/Primus musician Les Claypool. In five years of hosting horror openings at the Egyptian, this scribe (pictured in third photo with Hayley Dees) has never seen a more positive

Last call: star-packed Pig Hunt La screening

Fangoria is hosting the West Coast premiere of Pig Hunt, Jason X director Jim Isaac’s action-packed horror-thriller, at the American Cinematheque’s Egyptian Theater in Los Angeles (6712 Hollywood Boulevard) tomorrow night, Tuesday, May 5 at 7:30 p.m. Isaac and his cast and crew will be attending, as well as many other special guests (see below). The event will also feature free giveaways, live performances and a few crazy stunts guaranteed to make for a memorable night.

Pig Hunt follows a bunch of macho city friends as they head into the backwoods of Northern California to hunt wild porkers, only to encounter crazed rednecks, half-nude cult girls, assorted other human miscreants and a savage, 3,000-pound flesheating boar right out of Razorback. Critic Zack Smith of Indyweek.com calls Pig Hunt “Damn fun from start to finish,” while Mitch Davis of Montreal’s Fantasia film festival says, “The wildest American horror film of the year…
