Sharknado goes global as Syfy and The Asylum start production on Sharknado 5

Syfy and The Asylum are taking Sharknado global, announcing today that filming is now underway on the fifth instalment of the cult franchise.

Sharknado 5 is once again directed by Anthony C. Ferrante, who has helmed all four of the previous instalments in the series, and will see the return of Ian Ziering and Tara Reid as Fin Shepard and April Wexler. Cassie Scerbo is also confirmed as returning in the role of Nova.

The new film will see the world coming under threat from a global Sharknado, taking in locations such as the UK and Australia. As always, expect a host of celebrity cameos to be announced in the coming months.

Syfy scored a surprise hit with the first Sharknado back in 2013, and has since followed up with annual instalments in Sharknado 2: The Second One, Sharknado 3: Oh Hell No! and Sharknado: The 4th Awakens. Expect »

Sharknado 5 is happening, and there’s nothing you can do to stop it.

With much of North America left in ruins following the events of Sharknado: The 4th Awakens, the fifth entry into Syfy and The Asylum’s gloriously brainless franchise is poised to take its shark-infested storms global. Ian Ziering (Fin Shephard), Tara Reid (April Wexler) and Cassie Scerbo (Nova) are among the stars returning for another helping of horrifying comedy.

Cameras are just now beginning to roll, and we understand that Sharknado 5 will lens in more than five countries across the globe, including Bulgaria, the UK and Australia. In recent years, the latter has proven to be more and more popular among Hollywood studios, given Down Under has also played host to Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales and Thor: Ragnarok.

Ian Ziering and Tara Reid Will Return in Sharknado 5

Syfy and The Asylum announced today that Ian Ziering and Tara Reid will again star in Sharknado 5 (working title), reprising their roles as shark-fighting heroes Fin Shepard and April Wexler. Principal photography commenced today, February 2, in Bulgaria. The latest film in the hit global franchise, Sharknado 5 features the return of original cast member Cassie Scerbo as Nova, a bartender turned badass Sharknado fighter.

Sharknado 5, which sees the deadly weather phenomenon of shark-infested storms bombard cities around the world, will film in more than 5 countries, including the UK and Australia. Anthony C. Ferrante, who directed the first four films, is back to helm this latest installment, based on a script by Scotty Mullen. Ian Ziering and Tara Reid are coming back to battle the sharp-teethed terrors from above in Sharknado 5. Syfy and The Asylum announced the start of filming in Bulgaria on the fifth installment of the franchise, which is once again directed by Anthony C. Ferrante and also features Cassie Scerbo joining Ziering and Reid to reprise her role as Nova.
