‘Battle of the Network Stars’ Sets Teams for Series Revival on ABC

ABC’s revival of “Battle of the Network” stars has set 20 teams of five celebrities each to compete in the upcoming season, the network announced Monday.

Stars from shows such as “Modern Family,” “Pretty Little Liars,” “Scandal,” “Melrose Place,” “Beverly Hills, 90210,” “The Goldbergs,” “How to Get Away with Murder,” “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” “The Incredible Hulk,” “The West Wing,” “Dallas,” “CHiPs,” “Law & Order” and many more will take part in the throwback to the classic series from the 1970’s.

The 10-episode season will pit teams of current and classic TV stars from multiple eras and different genres against one another in a variety of athletic games, like Tug of War, Archery, Kayak Relay, Obstacle Course, and Dunk Tank.  The series will premiere June 29 at 9 p.m.

The hosts for “Battle of the Network Stars” are Mike Greenberg and Joe Tessitore of Espn; Cassidy Hubbarth and Cari Champion of Espn will be the sideline reporters. Super »

CBS has renewed medical drama “Code Black” for a third season, TheWrap has learned. The medical series, which stars Marcia Gay Harden and follows the doctors at Angels Memorial Hospital as they try to treat an overwhelming number of patients despite a lack of staff and resources. The series was created by Michael Seitzman and also stars Raza Jeffrey, Bonnie Somerville, Melanie Chandra, William Allen Young, Harry Ford, Benjamin Hollingsworth, Luis Guzman, Boris Kodjoe, Jillian Murray and Rob Lowe. “Code Black” is the 19th series renewed by CBS, with “The Amazing Race” and “Elementary” renewed on Saturday. Medical drama “Code Black” has been renewed for Season 3 at CBS, Variety has learned.

The series takes place in the fictional Angels Memorial Hospital, where the high number often outnumbered the limited resources available to doctors and patients, creating a situation known in some hospitals as a “code black.”

It stars Marcia Gay Harden, Boris Kodjoe Melanie ChandraHarry Ford, Benjamin Hollingsworth, Jillian Murray, William Allen Young, Luis Guzmán, and Rob Lowe. Michael Seitzman, David Marshall Grant, Ryan McGarry, David Von Ancken, Marti Noxon and Linda Goldstein Knowlton serve as executive producers. ABC Television Studios produced in association with CBS Television Studios.

The series has enjoyed decent ratings, but nevertheless ranked as one of CBS’ lowest-rated scripted series this season. Season 2 averaged a 1.0 rating in adults 18-49 and 6 million viewers per episode.

With their pulpy, entertaining sci-fi film Life now in theaters, star Jake Gyllenhaal and director Daniel Espinosa are already set to re-team for another cinematic outing. According to The Tracking Board, the pair are set to adapt an article by Rolling Stone about a group of Americans who fight alongside the Ypg against Isis. Titled The Anarchists vs Isis, Gyllenhaal will lead the project, along as joining the film as a producer. Espinosa is set to direct and they are still on the hunt for a writer to adapt the article, hopefully one that adapts such a recent set of events in compelling form.
