Movie Review – Dark Night (2016)

Dark Night, 2016.

Directed by Tim Sutton.

Starring Robert Jumper, Anna Rose Hopkins, Aaron Purvis, Eddie Cacciola and Conor A. Murphy.

Synopsis:

The lives of six strangers intersect at a suburban Cineplex where a massacre occurs.

Based upon the 2012 massacre in Aurora, Colorado where lone gunman James Eagan Holmes opened fire on a midnight screening of The Dark Knight, this Sundance Film Festival piece sets out to provide a thought provoking exploration centred around mental health and gun violence.

Seemingly taking inspiration from 2003’s Elephant, in its approach to chronicling both the victims and perpetrator of the the massacre, Dark Night falls short of becoming something truly moving and fails to add to the conversation surrounding gun laws in America. The film follows multiple people as they go about their lives, documenting the dull reality of the every day: an actor seeking auditions, a young girl trying to perform better on social media,

Official Trailer for Indie Drama 'Dark Night' from Director Tim Sutton

Cinelicious Pics has debuted an official trailer for a super low budget indie drama titled Dark Night, from New York-based director Tim Sutton. The film premiered at last year's Sundance Film Festival in the low budget Next category, and is opening in limited theaters this February. It follows a troubled kid planning a mass shooting, loosely based around The Dark Knight Rises shooting a few years ago, even though it's not the same story (turned into a film). Starring Robert Jumper, Anna Rose Hopkins, Karina Macias. I saw this film at Sundance last year and it's definitely not for me: oh so boring, not much of a plot, really not impressive in any way. Of course, that's just my opinion, other critics found more to appreciate. Have a look. Here's the official trailer (+ poster) for Tim Sutton's Dark Night, direct from YouTube: A haunting, artfully understated critique of American gun culture,

Sundance 2016: Dark Night Explores a Day in the Life of America’s Death

Follow all of our Sundance 2016 coverage. If intentions were synonymous with results then Tim Sutton‘s new film, Dark Night, would be a powerful and important commentary on the issue of gun violence in the United States. There are scenes that hit here, moments and images that burn into the brain with a harrowing and haunting effect, but the film as a whole suffers some from a lack of precision and subtlety both. It’s a summer day in Florida, and while news reports on the radio and TV cover shootings in Louisiana and Colorado, a mix of strangers and friends go about their day. None of them share our knowledge that this might be the last one of their lives. The film opens in media res with a close-up of one young woman, in the dark as brightly colored lights reflect in her watery eyes — lights that could easily be from a film screen are instead

Exclusive: Bachelorette Interviews with Kirsten Dunst, Isla Fisher, Lizzy Caplan and Rebel Wilson
Many will think that Bachelorette is just a retread of last year's hit Bridesmaids. However, what many may not know is writer-director Leslye Headland (who makes her directorial debut) adapted the script from her own 2008 play, and that, in many ways, it's even more outrageous than Bridesmaids. Kirsten Dunst, Isla Fisher, and Lizzy Caplan star as lifelong Bff's who get back together when their friend (Rebel Wilson) is the first of their group to get married. I recently had the chance to speak with Kirsten Dunst, Isla Fisher, Lizzy Caplan, Rebel Wilson, and filmmaker Leslye Headland about their new comedy, currently available on VOD formats before arriving in theaters September 7. Take a look at our exclusive video interviews to learn more about this outlandish bridal comedy.

Shame (2011) International Movie Trailer: Steve McQueen, Michael Fassbender

Shame Trailer. Steve McQueen‘s Shame (2011) international movie trailer stars Michael Fassbender, Carey Mulligan, James Badge Dale, Amy Hargreaves, and Elizabeth Masucci. Shame‘s plot synopsis: “Shame centers around a New Yorker named Brandon (Fassbender) who avoids intimacy but is compulsively addicted to sex. When his troubled younger sister (Mulligan) comes to stay with him in his apartment, he finds his orderly life disrupted by her presence and reminders of their unhappy past.”

I saw a brief clip for this film months ago and instantly became intrigued by the film. Now the international movie trailer has been released and I like what I see and more importantly what I do not see.

More on the film:

Though it is, by all accounts, a powerful character-driven drama, it’s gained some notoriety for reports of its rather explicit portrayals of “male and female full-frontal nudity, graphic depictions of straight/gay/threeway sex,
