Graduated from Williams College in Williamstown, Massachusetts, in 1998 with a Bachelor's degree in Political Economy.
After Citigroup, went to Bloomberg, starting as a producer and, in late 2005, joined CNBC.
In 1998, after graduation from Williams College, got a job as an analyst at Goldman Sachs. After one year, wrote a letter to Willow Bay at CNN. Bay hired her as her assistant at CNN, but Burnett quit shortly thereafter to work at Citigroup on an Internet media startup.

Raised on a farm outside Mardela Springs, Maryland, on the eastern shore of Chesapeake Bay.
