Josie Andrews was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on October 28, 1994, and she grew up in Haddon Heights, New Jersey. Josie began dancing almost before she could walk. At just twenty months, Josie toddled into her older sister's, Jackie's, dance class and started to tap. The teacher was so impressed that she had learned the routine, she let her stay in the class. When she was 4, Josie announced to her parents that she wanted to be a "real ballerina" that danced on stage in front of big audiences. After joining Jazz Unlimited, the National Ballet of New Jersey, and then the Rock School for Dance Education (children's ballet school associated with the PA Ballet in Philadelphia), by the age of 5 Josie had appeared in her first major ballet, The Nutcracker. Several additional productions of the Nutcracker, Coppelia, Sleeping Beauty, and Cinderella quickly followed. Josie still studies ballet and Pointe every chance that she gets and believes the discipline in dance keeps her focused in life.
Barely able to sit in her seat after seeing Broadway children perform at a Leukemia benefit, at the age of 6, Josie ran backstage and found the vocal instructor for the children and talked her into giving her vocal lessons. Josie quickly discovered that she loved singing as much as dancing. At the age of 8, Josie talked her godmother into taking her to New York for auditions for a National Tour. Shortly after her 9th birthday, Josie became one of the youngest children to join the cast in Cameron McIntosh's Broadway National Tour of Oliver!. She performed in hundreds of shows traveling to cities across the United States and Canada accompanied by her grandmother. Since she began performing, Josie has appeared professionally in over one thousand individual performances. Favorite roles have included Grease (Sandy), the Sound of Music (Louisa), Annie (Tessie), and Christmas Carol (Martha Cratchit). One of Josie's favorite roles was the Prince Music Theater's production of West Side Story as Marie and Annie Get Your Gun (with Andrea McCardle) as Jessie. Josie flies back and forth between Los Angeles and the East Coast pursuing her dream of becoming a pop star and actress. She has two Siamese cats, Cuppie and Halo.
Josie loves to sing, dance, and perform every chance she gets. In her spare time, her Ipod is attached to one hand and her cell phone is attached to the other, while she plunks away somehow on the computer. She plays the piano, and has a "pink" - yes, everyone who knows her will not be surprised - "pink" guitar. In case you didn't know, Josie is a definite "pink" girl who promises that she will never be too old for dolls!
Josie actively campaigns against bullying and has formed a charitable foundation that recognizes that every kid deserves a "perfect day."
Campaign: Actively writes about and speaks out against bullying. Has a Foundation that actively fights against bullying in the schools.
Since she was 8 years old, Josie has been able to twirl two batons while dancing on pointe.
Josie sang at the White House when she was only 11.
"I guess I'm just happily optimistic that everything in my life will work out and that I have a long way to go before I grow up. When I don't get a part that I really want, I just try to get involved as quickly as possible in something else. By totally focusing myself on a new goal, it helps me stay happy and cheerful."
