John began studying photography at the University of Oklahoma and finished his collegiate studies as a theater major at the University of Houston where he studied with Pulitzer Prize winning playwrights Edward Albee and Lanford Wilson.
While at the University of Houston, John worked with the actors of The Alley Theater, Houston's premier regional theater and received the full gamut of classical theater training, ranging from proper stage movement and voice, to stage combat and makeup.
John worked his way through college by working with Youth at Risk, teaching Survival Skills at several Wilderness based programs. Working in Southern Texas, Montana, Alaska, Utah, New Mexico, and Colorado helped to teach the fundamentals of Wilderness Survival and the application of these concepts and philosophies in day to day living for troubled teens.

John Edward Lee, rapidly becoming known for the intensely defined characters he creates, is part of two major film projects: a role working opposite Kellan Lutz and Nikki Reed in the highly anticipated Twilight Breaking Dawn Part 2 finale for director Bill Condon as an English rocker, and a lead role in the fast paced crime drama Whiskey Bay opposite Willem Dafoe and Matt Dillon which just wrapped in August.
Based on actual events, Whiskey Bay is the story of a detective who infiltrates a criminal enterprise after he takes down a to lieutenant and contract killer in this organization and "persuades" him to turn informant. John Edward Lee plays "Catfish Stanton" a complex criminal with ties to white supremacists factions. Catfish is overly confident with an unpredictable, fierce temper.
John's very first audition was for the CBS television series Criminal Minds and he booked the role. This quickly led to guest stars on such television series as CSI: NY working opposite Bruce Dern, Bones, Monk, NCIS, the recurring role of Jared in the TV Land comedy Retired at 35. John also has several leads in independent films to his credit including Showtime's One-Eyed Monster, and Lionsgate's Circle of Pain. . Lee was born in Oklahoma City, OK and spent time growing up in Houston, TX . His diverse background is English, Welsh and Cherokee Indian. In addition to acting, John Edward Lee is also an accomplished film and television producer, having most recently produced the Van Vlahakis Biopic "A Green Story" alongside longtime producing partner Nika Agiashvilli. " A Green Story" stars Shannon Elizabeth, Billy Zane, and Malcolm MacDowell and will be released April 2013 by Indicant Pictures. Other producing credits with Agiashvilli include "The Tunnel King" and the upcoming "Savage Mutts" starring Ron Perlman.
His Production Company, Soi Dog Productions has also produced numerous cable and online commercial spots. Along with commercial content, Soi Dog Productions has produced such narrative features as Inventing Adam, The Judas Cradle, Alcatraz Prison Escape: Deathbed Confession, as well as the television series: Uncaged TV and Texas Takedown: The Real Men In Black. Music video credits include top artists such as Civil Twilight, Daniel Powter, G-Tom Mac, Tah-Mac and others.
