New 'Mortal Instruments' footage to be revealed at LeakyCon

20 hours ago | Twilight Examiner | See recent Twilight Examiner news »

LeakyCon festival goers are in for a real treat this summer. The group has announced today that it'll screen exclusive new footage from "The Mortal Instruments: City Of Bones" during its Portland, Oregon-based convention on June 29 which will then be followed up with a video conference chat with the best-selling book series' author, Cassie Clare. For the uninitiated, Clare's ties to "Harry Potter" - the primary subject of the festival - are strong indeed as she began her writing career doing fan-fiction for the magical J.K. Rowling phenomenon. No word yet on what exact footage will be contained in the LeakyCon sneak peek. "The Mortal Instruments" film adaptation, directed by Harald Zwart and starring Lily Collins, Jamie Campbell Bower and Robert Sheehan, hits theaters soon after on August 23. YA Franchises Mortal Instruments and Divergent Already Have Sequels in the Works

9 May 2013 8:42 AM, PDT | Beyond Hollywood | See recent Beyond Hollywood news »

The folks behind the upcoming adaptations of Young Adult novels “Divergent” and “The Mortal Instruments” are so sure their movies are going to launch the “Twilight”-esque franchise they want so badly, they’ve already begun work on sequels. Because, you know, they’re absolutely sure it’s going to happen. Not really. This is pretty much standard operating procedure nowadays with wannabe movie franchises, but especially for all these Ya novels being snatched up by producers to turn into the next “Twilight” or “Hunger Games” or “Harry Potter”. To that end, “The Mortal Instruments” stars Lily Collins and Jamie Campbell Bower will be heading to Cannes with the film’s producers to try to sell buyers on a sequel to their film. Besides the two stars, the sequel (based on “The Mortal Instruments: City of Ashes”) will also return director Harald Zwart. The first movie, “The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones »

We’re just a few months out from seeing The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones reach theatres, and things are looking good for what promises to be a real franchise-starter for Sony this year.

The studio don’t have that many film franchises in their corner, particularly in the young-adult market, and it will be interesting to see how City of Bones fares when it hits this August.

We saw an impressive new full-length trailer land last month, giving us a great glimpse at the upcoming action/fantasy blockbuster. And now MSN have debuted the new UK quad poster.

Some fans of cult show Misfits will never forgive Robert Sheehan for abandoning the show after the second series. Mostly because he was an absolute star. Needless to say, he is getting his name out there in the world of cinema with roles in Killing Bono, Season Of The Witch, and what is set to be his biggest role to date in Ya adaptation The Mortal Instruments: City Of Bones. The film will see Lily Collins as a young ‘chosen one’ who must battle dark forces in New York’s underworld. Sheehan stars as Simon Lewis who, judging by the trailers, is a comedic human character that gets caught up in the other world.

"The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones" doesn't open in the Us until August 23, but plans are already well under way for a sequel, "The Mortal Instruments: City of Ashes," reuniting stars Lily Collins ("Mirror, Mirror") and Jamie Campbell Bower ("Camelot").

Although the books are internationally successful -- selling over 16 million copies worldwide -- moving ahead on a sequel before seeing how the first film fares at the box office feels premature.
