In October, Felipe Massa secured another season sitting in a Ferrari for the upcoming calendar – despite having a dismal start to the season, the Brazilian was rewarded for a string of improved performances, including a podium position in Japan. The sports star returned to the BBC entertainment series for a second attempt at the competition after struggling in wet and oily conditions on his previous effort in 2007.
"Wow, holy crap. I'm surprised," said Hamilton after the winning lap time was announced.
Host Jeremy Clarkson revealed to viewers that Hamilton had been so annoyed with his previous lap time that he had done a deal with producers to return to the show.
Last time Hamilton appeared on the show in December 2007, the sports star took the Suzuki Liana around the show's race course in 1:44.7.
Other features on this week's show include Jeremy Clarkson taking the new Kia Cee'd for a road test involving eels, curry, a rock legend, an American cop and a game of rugby involving James May, while Richard Hammond is road testing the Mastretta sports car.
