Julia Roberts’ ‘Wonder,’ Miles Teller’s ‘Granite Mountain’ Get 2017 Release Dates

Julia Roberts and Jacob Tremblay’s “Wonder” adaptation will hit theaters on April 7, 2017, Lionsgate announced on Tuesday, along with the release dates of Miles Teller firefighter pic “Granite Mountain” and Pantelion comedy “How to Be a Latin Lover.”

Granite Mountain” is now scheduled to bow on Sept. 22, 2017, and “How to Be a Latin Lover” on April 28, 2017.

Roberts plays the mother of “Room” breakout Tremblay in “Wonder,” based on the novel by Raquel J. Palacio. The drama tells the story of August Pullman, who, born with facial differences that prevented him from going to a mainstream school earlier in life, becomes an unlikely hero when he enters the local fifth grade.

Stephen Chbosky directs from a script by Jack Thorne and Steve Conrad. Producers are Todd Lieberman and David Hoberman.

Summit Entertainment’s “Granite Mountain” also stars Josh Brolin, Jennifer Connelly, Jeff Bridges, Taylor Kitsch and James Badge Dale, along with Teller. »

Jennifer Connelly Joins "Granite Mountain" Film

Jennifer Connelly is set to join Josh Brolin, Miles Teller, Jeff Bridges and Taylor Kitsch in the firefighting drama "Granite Mountain" at Black Label Media, Di Bonaventura Pictures and Lionsgate.

The true story tale deals with the Granite Mountain Hotshots who fought the deadliest wildfire ever in Arizona's history and were trapped on a mountainside. Only one man of the twenty-member team, Brendan McDonough, survived the experience.

Connelly is set to play the role of Amanda Marsh, the wife and 'horse-whispering farrier' of the supervisor of the 'tier one' team of Hotshots.

Ken Nolan and Eric Warren Singer penned the script while Joe Kosinski will direct. Lorenzo Di Bonaventura, Mike Menchel, Erik Howsam and Jeremy Steckler and Dawn Ostroff will produce.

The Wrap is reporting that Jennifer Lawrence has signed on to play Martita Lorenz, a former lover of Cuban leader Fidel Castro, in Sony Pictures romantic spy drama Marita.

The film will tell the story of Lorenz, “a German woman who had an affair with Castro in 1959 when she was just 19. After having an abortion and leaving Cuba, she was recruited by the CIA to take part in an assassination attempt on Castro’s life, though her feelings for the communist leader got in the way of her completing her mission.”

Marita has been written by Eric Warren Singer, screenwriter of American Hustle. The film will be produced by Lawrence, along with Matt Tolmach, Andre Rouleau and Scott Mednick.

David O. Russell’s Joy may not have hit the dizzying hits of, say, Silver Linings Playbook or even American Hustle, but that hasn’t quelled Jennifer Lawrence’s enthusiasm to continue working with the director’s creative team.

That’s according to The Hollywood Reporter, revealing that The Hunger Games star is in line to take on the title role in Marita. Jennifer Lawrence is attached to portray Fidel Castro's mistress Marita Lorenz in the romantic spy drama "Marita" for Sony Pictures. A director is expected to be locked down soon with the hope of getting the film out in late 2017.

The story centers on Lorenz and how she met and began an affair with the Cuban leader in 1959 when she was 19. She left Cuba and joined anti-communists in the U.S., where she was recruited by the CIA for an assassination mission.

Sony has acquired Lorenz’s life rights. The studio acquired a pitch from Eric Warren Singer (“American Hustle”) that was developed with a quartet of producers — Lawrence, Scott Mednick, Andre Rouleau and Matt Tolmach.

Lawrence received her fourth Academy Award nomination last week for “Joy” after winning a Golden Globe for the role. She won the best supporting actress Oscar for Sony’s “Silver Linings Playbook” and received nominations for “American Hustle” and “Winter’s Bone.”
