Quiz: All About Michael FassbenderQUIZ: All About Michael FassbenderAdriana Floridia8/29/2016 10:00:00 Am

It's hard to believe that Michael Fassbender only broke onto the scene six short years ago.

We first noticed the Irish/German actor when he had a small but memorable role in Quentin Tarantino's Inglourious Basterds, and he's quickly become not only one of our favourites, but easily one of the best actors of his generation.

Fassbender might be tearing up screens in some blockbuster roles, but we're happy that he hasn't completely turned his back on his smaller-film roots: he'll play one of the leads in this week's romantic weepy The Light Between Oceans alongside real-life girlfriend Alicia Vikander. The film is based on the best-selling novel, which tells the story of a couple that raise an orphaned girl as their own, only to discover that she isn't exactly an orphan after all. While we anticipate the new film, »

Michael Fassbender and Alicia Vikander have incredible chemistry in Derek Cianfrance’s upcoming drama “The Light Between Oceans,” and now we have two new clips from the movie to prove it.

Based on M.L. Stedman’s 2012 best-selling novel of the same name, the film tells the the story of a couple, Tom Sherbourne (Fassbender) and Isabel Graysmark (Vikander), who marry and live on a small island. As their love flourishes, their happiness is marred by their inability to start a family. Wishing for a child of their own, one day a castaway baby washes ashore and Isabel believes her prayers have been answered, while Tom is torn between reporting the child and keeping her as their own.

The new clips show Fassbender is a charming light, making him seem like the perfect husband and father.

Screen reveals the burning questions ahead of this year’s festival…

Anticipation for the 73rd Venice Film Festival (Aug 31 - Sept10) has been building for weeks.

Now, ahead of the world’s oldest film showcase (and the autumn’s first major awards barometer), Screen highlights ten burning questions…

1. Awards race under orders…

This year’s awards race will get underway in earnest on the Lido. In the last three years the festival has kickstarted major Oscar runs for three movies: Gravity, Birdman and Spotlight, while last year’s crop also included popular awards titles The Danish Girl and Anomalisa.

This year’s line-up is starrier than ever with Venice’s competition alone featuring Damien Chazelle’s La La Land (more of which below), Tom Ford’s blue ribbon drama Nocturnal Animals, Jacqueline Kennedy biopic Jackie, starring Natalie Portman, Denis Villeneuve’s big-budget sci-fi Arrival and Michael Fassbender-Alicia Vikander romance The Light Between Oceans.

Alicia Vikander And Eva Green Share A Sibling Bond In First Look At Lisa Langseth Drama Euphoria

24 August 2016 8:03 AM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

After dabbling with blockbuster fare via Universal’s recent Jason Bourne revival, Alicia Vikander will soon circle back to the kind of low-key indies that helped put her on the map with Euphoria, a promising family drama coming by way of writer-director Lisa Langseth.

Marking Vikander’s first foray into the world of producing – she’s attached via the newly-founded Vikarious Productions – the festival-friendly pic marks a reunion with Langseth, who previously directed the so-hot-right-now Swede across both Hotel and Pure.

Euphoria, on the other hand, is acting as the filmmaker’s English-language debut, setting Vikander and Penny Dreadful star Eva Green as two sisters – Ines and Emilie – who cross paths after many years spent apart. Langseth’s feature then explores the profound journey they undertake as they set about strengthening a sisterly bond that has, for one reason or another, fallen by the wayside. It’s a relatively straightforward premise on paper, »

Alicia Vikander and Eva Green Experience ‘Euphoria’ in First Image

24 August 2016 7:44 AM, PDT | The Film Stage | See recent The Film Stage news »

Following her Oscar win earlier this year, Alicia Vikander not only picked up a major tentpole role in Tomb Raider, but also launched her own production company, the aptly named Vikarious Productions. It also hasn’t taken long for her to start their first feature as Euphoria kicked off production this month, and the first look has arrived today.

Vikander’s Pure and Hotell collaborator Lisa Langseth is writing and directing the English-language picture, which teams Vikander and Eva Green as “sisters in conflict traveling through Europe towards a mystery destination,” creating a project that the actor-producer calls “full of suffering but also full of joy, and squaring up to very important subject matter.”

Check out the image below (thanks to The Playlist) for the film also starring Charlotte RamplingCharles Dance, Adrian Lester, and Mark Stanley.

Shooting in Bavaria and Munich, Euphoria will likely premiere in 2017.
