It.s like I always say: .Why bother reading the book when you can just see the movie?., and in the case of Harry Potter I say .Why bother seeing eight movies when you can just see Stupefy! The 90 Minute Harry Potter !?.

That.s right; the lunatics at The Magic Smoking Monkey Theater group are presenting Harry Potter faster than you’ve ever seen him before! Stupefy! The 90 Minute Harry Potter is a stage play that is a parody of all eight Potter movies and if you.ve seen the Magic Smoking Monkey gang.s previous skewers of Star Trek, Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, Glen or Glenda, or The Abominable Dr. Phibes, you may know what.s in store. These guys stage the most gut-busting spoofs imaginable and you.ll never look at Harry Potter quite the same way when their done. All 8 movies in 90 minutes! Will Voldemort win? »

Universal Snags 'Safe House' Writer's Plane Crash Movie 'Black Box'

13 September 2012 11:40 AM, PDT | firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news »

The success of writer Davis Guggenheim became as much of a story surrounding his first film, Safe House, as the movie itself earlier this year. Guggenheim was previously the editor of the magazine Us Weekly and began writing scripts in his spare time, selling Safe House on spec (meaning nobody hired him to write it beforehand) to Universal before it went on to be a surprise hit in February. Now he's done it again, as THR reports Universal won a bidding war for Guggenheim's latest effort, the plane crash thriller Black Box. It's being compared to Enemy of the State and Three Days of the Condor, so we're in. Read on! The story follows an investigator whose life is put in danger when he discovers the black box of the recently-downed Air Force One, which crashed on U.S. soil, and he realizes that the box tells a different story »

Universal has snapped up another David Guggenheim project, shelling out high six figures for "Black Box," the latest spec script from the "Safe House" scribe. Guggenheim, a former Us Weekly editor, broke into Hollywood with "Safe House," the Daniel Espinosa-directed film Universal released this February. The thriller, which starred Ryan Reynolds and Denzel Washington, made $205 million at the worldwide box office and Universal has since made a deal with the writer to write a follow-up. Universal Searches for Air Force One’s Black Box

13 September 2012 8:12 AM, PDT | Beyond Hollywood | See recent Beyond Hollywood news »

David Guggenheim, writer of “Safe House” (with Denzel Washington and Ryan Reynolds) and the upcoming “Safe House 2″ (again with Denzel Washington and Ryan Reynolds — wait, what?), has sold another spiffy spec script to Universal for a cool six-figures — this one called “Black Box”. Apparently the script is hot stuff, with all the studios (except for Disney) engaging in one of those famed Hollywood bidding wars for the script. Universal, where Guggenheim got “Safe House” made, came out on top, despite the fact that Warner Bros. had a package with Bradley Cooper already attached. As the name implies, Guggenheim’s latest script concerns the black box, a device on planes that records all activities and becomes invaluable in the event of a crash. The catch? This is the black box on Air Force One — the President of the United States’ personal ride. “Black Box” opens with Air Force One going down over America, »

Universal Wins Bidding War For Safe House Writer's Script Black Box

13 September 2012 5:24 AM, PDT | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

One of the surprise hits of 2012 is Safe House. "Surprise hit?" You might scoff, "It starred Denzel Washington!" True, but it also starred Ryan Reynolds, who lost much of his leading man appeal following flops like Green Lantern the underrated comedy The Change-up. Nonetheless, the spy thriller with a moderate budget of $85 million took in more than $205 mil worldwide, making it one of Universal's most bankable efforts to date domestically. Safe House's success has already led to its director, Swedish filmmaker Daniel Espinosa, being offered the chance to replace Ridley Scott at the helm of Child 44, and has spurred Universal pursue a Safe House sequel. And now THR has good news for Safe House scribe David Guggenheim, the former Us Weekly editor who is now one of Hollywood's most sought after spec script writers. Guggenheim's latest spec script Black Box went out to studios Wednesday, sparking a bidding »

Universal Back In Biz With ‘Safe House’ Scribe David Guggenheim’s ‘Black Box’

12 September 2012 10:16 PM, PDT | Deadline | See recent Deadline news »

Breaking: Universal Pictures paid seven-figures for Black Box, a script by Safe House scribe David Guggenheim that attracted several serious bids including DreamWorks and Warner Bros, the latter of which I’d heard was bidding for Bradley Cooper. The studio has put back together some of its Safe House creative team, with Scott Stuber coming aboard to produce along with Madhouse Entertainment. The latter’s Adam Kolbrenner manages Guggenheim and worked on the deal with Paradigm’s David Boxerbaum. This chase went on most of the day as the town shakes off the Toronto Film Festival and gets busy looking for the next batch of tent poles. This is the second big spec this week, after Sony paid $1 million for Epsilon for the Wernick & Reese script Epsilon. Black Box‘s logline is this: When Air Force One crashes into the Atlantic ocean, the black box recording reveals the accident was »

Universal Cracks Open Black Box

12 September 2012 1:03 PM, PDT | EmpireOnline | See recent EmpireOnline news »

Air Force One is arguably America’s most famous aircraft. It’s been featured in numerous films, most notably that one about Air Force One starring Harrison Ford that we just can’t recall the name of right now, but we know it features Air Force One somewhere. The plane is about to be put into danger again, at least if Universal and David Guggenheim have any say in the matter, as the studio has just picked up his script Black Box.The spec screenplay sees the plane going down over America. Naturally, there’s an investigation, but the man assigned the job finds his life is in danger from a cover-up. You see, the black box contradicts the official story that the craft fell from the sky due to a technical issue, when it actually appears that it was shot down. Cue running, car chases and probably some very dodgy government types. »

By Allen Gardner

Quadrophenia (Criterion) Franc Roddam’s 1979 film based on The Who’s classic rock opera tells the story of working class lad Jimmy (Phil Daniels) struggling to find his identity in a rapidly changing Britain, circa 1965. Jimmy is a “mod,” a youth movement dedicated to wearing snappy suits, driving Vespa motor scooters bedecked with side mirrors, popping amphetamines and obsessed with the new sound of bands like The Who and The Kinks. Their other pastime is engaging in bloody brawls with “rockers,” throwbacks to the 1950s, who listen to Elvis and Gene Vincent, wear leather biker gear, grease in their hair and drive massive motorcycles a la Marlon Brando in “The Wild One.” Often cited as a worthy successor to “Rebel Without a Cause” as the greatest angry youth picture ever made, it is that and more, including a first cousin to the “kitchen sink” dramas of scribes John Osborne, »
