20 December 2010 10:31 AM, PST | 28 Days Later Analysis | See recent 28 Days Later Analysis news »

Well, we have taken a look at the "Best of" on the domestic circuit, in relation to indie films. Now, let us go global to track down the best in international horror. This is a year where the vile was unleashed with the Human Centipede to the action oriented zombie film the Devil's Playground. This reviewer admits a weakness in the areas of Asian and Italian films, from abroad. If it is not Takashi Miike, then this movie lover has likely not heard of it. Giallo is another film genre that does not appeal here.

However, there were several good outings from Scandinavian countries like Dead Snow and French horror continues towards an apex with movies such as La Horde and High Lane. Some unreleased projects like the serial killer franchise Fritt Vilt 3 (Cold Prey 3) will be included in this list. So, sit back, relax and let this movie reviewer »

Renner Shoots Down Casting Rumours

1 December 2010 9:39 AM, PST | Dark Horizons | See recent Dark Horizons news »

Rising actor Jeremy Renner ("The Hurt Locker," "S.W.A.T.") has been linked to any number of projects in recent times now that he's being pegged as a future action star with key roles in "Mission Impossible Ghost Protocol" and "The Avengers". This week the actor has shot down most of the speculation during press rounds.

First up he tells MTV News that reports of him taking over Kurt Russell‘s iconic Snake Plissken role in the remake of the 80's cult classic “Escape From New York” are unfounded. “No, there’s no truth to that. Someone told me about it and then I saw it online. I was like, ‘That’s news to me as well.’ I didn’t know anything about it” says Renner.

Next up, he tells Thompson On Hollywood that he is linked to Tommy Wirkola‘s “Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters” project, but it's still way too »

Just last month we told you that Noomi Rapace (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo) and Jeremy Renner (The Hurt Locker, The Avengers) were in negotiations to star in Tommy Wirkola‘s (Dead Snow) Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters for Paramount Pictures as the sibling witch hunters.

Now, according to Deadline, Ridley Scott has is eyes on The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Noomi Rapace for the lead role in his forthcoming 3D Alien prequel at 20th Century Fox. The site claims that she has already had more than one meeting with Scott, and that she has left a very strong impression on the director.

Dragon Tattoo Star Noomi Rapace Taking The Lead In Alien Prequel?

8 October 2010 9:34 AM, PDT | Screen Anarchy | See recent Screen Anarchy news »

Lisbeth Salander is going global.

On the heels of the international success of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo star Noomi Rapace has quickly become Hollywood's go to girl when a female cinematic badass is called for. She's already been cast as the lead in Tommy Wirkola's Hansel And Gretel: Witch Hunters and, according to Deadline, she is the front runner to take the lead in Ridley Scott's upcoming prequel to Alien.

Now, this is all assuming that Scott can work out the studio squabbling - they're butting heads over budget and rating - but the plan is for Rapace and Never Let Me Go star Carey Mulligan to take the leads in the new film, which is a pretty fantastic piece of casting in my book.

'Dragon Tattoo's' Noomi Rapace Lands 'Sherlock 2' Role

11 September 2010 4:52 PM, PDT | Rope of Silicon | See recent Rope Of Silicon news »

Noomi Rapace, the title star of the popular Swedish adaptation of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo has landed her first English-language role as the female lead in Warner Bros.'s Sherlock Holmes 2. Rapace will be joining Robert Robert Downey Jr. as Holmes and Jude Law as Dr. Watson in the sequel, which is expected to begin shooting later this year.

As for Rapace's role, no surprise it's being kept quiet, although sources say the character may be a French Gypsy. Of course, there is also the expectation Dr. Moriarty will play a larger role in the sequel, a role that was never credited in the first film leaving room for a name actor to play the villain. Brad Pitt was at one time rumored for the role.

Rapace is also rumored to be up for Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters, the English language debut of director Tommy Wirkola (Dead Snow), alongside Jeremy Renner. »

Sherlock Holmes Sequel Gets Former Girl with Dragon Tattoo

11 September 2010 7:53 AM, PDT | Beyond Hollywood | See recent Beyond Hollywood news »

After much speculation and interest, “Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” star Noomi Rapace has decided on her first English-language Hollywood movie: the female lead in Guy Ritchie’s “Sherlock Holmes” sequel. Rapace will join returning players Robert Downey Jr. as Holmes and Jude Law as his more than capable sidekick Dr. Watson. Rapace’s role is being called the “female lead”, which would seem to indicate that Rachel McAdams, the first movie’s female lead, won’t be reprising her character Irene Adler, which is a shame. I rather liked McAdams as a devious conwoman. The role comes after Rapace’s visit to Hollywood last month, when she was offered the female lead in two major studio franchises — “Sherlock Holmes 2″ and “Mission Impossible 4″. Paula Patton has since taken the “MI4″ role. More recently, Rapace was linked to Tommy Wirkola’s “Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters” movie, though that one seems to have been premature. »

Noomi Rapace and Jeremy Renner in Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters

The Hurt Locker star and The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo star in one movie? Yes, please!

And, this news comes from Jeremy Renner, who recently gave an interview at the Venice Film Festival and revealed that he and Noomi Rapace will be starring in Tommy Wirkola’s upcoming project Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters!

Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters takes place 15 years after the siblings’ incident involving the gingerbread house. The siblings have evolved into bounty hunters who hunt witches.

Of course, you can already guess that Renner is up for the part of Hansel while Rapace is set to star as Gretel, but here’s what Renner had to say about the upcoming project:

“I liked Dead Snow, and I like seeing that Scandinavian directors have a combination of horror and humor.

I think Hansel and Gretel will be awesome. I play him and Noomi Rapace plays Gretel. »

Jeremy Renner and Noomi Rapace to Become ‘Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters’

9 September 2010 3:15 PM, PDT | The Film Stage | See recent The Film Stage news »

Director Tommy Wirkola, whose Dead Snow was so brilliantly high-concept (Nazi zombies!) that you wonder why no-one had done it before, is making his English-language debut with Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters. He is set to cast Jeremy Renner (The Hurt Locker) and Noomi Rapace (Swedish-language The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo) as the two leads, reports Twitch, via Dagsavisen.

You don’t need to be a genius to figure out the plot but as Wirkola has shown, a simple premise can yield great results, and the fairytale characters kicking witch ass fifteen years after their exploits in the story we all know is enough to get the juices flowing. Especially as Renner, hot property after his Oscar-nominated turn in The Hurt Locker, can enhance this kind of fodder as he proved in 28 Weeks Later and S.W.A.T.

What do you think of Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters? Are you pleased with the casting? »

Jeremy Renner and Noomi Rapace are Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters?

9 September 2010 1:57 PM, PDT | Beyond Hollywood | See recent Beyond Hollywood news »

Looks like “Dead Snow” guy Tommy Wirkola’s re-imagining of the Hansel & Gretel tale, “Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters” is moving right along, if this latest report is to be believed. The Wrap says (via a very short Twitch blurb) that new “Mission Impossible” badass spy Jeremy Renner has parlayed his role in the Oscar winning “The Hurt Locker” into yet another role, this time as Hansel in Wirkola’s movie, where he’ll be co-starring alongside “Girl with the Dragon Tattoo’s” Noomi Rapace. (Cuiously, Rapace was recently in Hollywood considering a role in “Mission Impossible 4″, the same movie Renner has just been cast in as Tom Cruise’s new partner-in-spying.) All of this stems from something Renner might have said to a Norwegian website called Dagsavien. And I stress the might part; I can’t tell you the number of times a report has proven false when the »
