Coverage of this year's Screamfest La Film Festival continues with Dread Central's event report for Thursday, October 20th, and Friday, October 21st, when we hit the carpet to bring you more photos and caught the premieres of Jack Heller’s feature film Enter Nowhere (Night #7) and of Ryan Schifrin’s No Rest for the Wicked, The Little Mermaid, Infected, and more. (Night #8).
(Editor's Note: In case you're wondering what happened to Night #6, the filmmakers of Livid, the major premiere of that evening, were not in attendance so we opted to give SeanD. a night off of coverage as well. Considering that he's practically been living at the Manns Chinese 6 during Screamfest La's 2011 run, we'd say he certainly deserved it!)
Those walking the black carpet on the 20th and in attendance for the seventh evening of the fest included Enter Nowhere director Heller, writers Shawn Christensen and Jason Dolan, producers Dallas Sonnier and Robert Crippen, »

Arrow Video has announced the UK DVD and Blu-ray Disc release of Adam Green's Hatchet 2 on 29th August 2011. This sequel picks up right where the original ended, and Arrow's release includes a nice package of extras.
Hatchet 2 focuses on Marybeth as she escapes from the clutches of Victor Crowley, learns the truth about his curse, and heads back into the haunted New Orleans swamp to seek revenge for her family and kill Victor Crowley once and for all.
Hatchet 2's cast includes Danielle Harris, Tony Todd, R.A. Mihailoff, Aj Bowen, Tom Holland, Kathryn Fiore, Parry Shen, Rileah Vanderbilt, Ed Ackerman, Rick McCallum, Colton Dunn, David Foy, Nick Principe, Alexis Peters, and Kane Hodder as Victor Crowley.
Features on the UK discs include:
- The Woman In Black
See how simple that was? No police in theatres. No shutdowns. No silly controversy. Just pay for your ticket and see a movie about a swamp monster with a wireless belt sander. That's right, kids! The UK will be getting Hatchet II as it was meant to be seen when it opens there in theatres this week. Free of all the MPAA stupidity and hoopla.
We sure could take a page from our friends across the pond.
Below is a list courtesy of ArieScope Pictures of the first round of cinemas where UK fans can catch the film on the big screen starting April 1st. More screens will be added so check your local listings!

Director Blake Reigle (Beneath the Surface) releases his latest film online just in time for Valentine's Day. Damn Love is a black comedy about love...and death. "Honest and direct communication is key in every relationship," explains Reigle, "... anything less can be murder!"
Damn Love stars Ed Ackerman (Hatchet 2, Frozen), Alexis Peters (Hatchet 2, Valentine’S Day), and Colton Dunn (Hatchet 2, Mad TV). Reigle is currently working on other shorts and features with his Team Rad Production company.

I recently had the pleasure of speaking with filmmaker Tom Holland, who makes a rare appearance in front of the camera as Uncle Bob in Hatchet II. While I spoke with him for Hatchet II's Blu-ray and DVD release on February 1, I had to ask him about one of my favorite movies as a youngster, Cloak & Dagger.
Tom Holland wrote the screenplay for Cloak & Dagger, and with the seemingly never-ending string of remakes and reboots, I asked if a remake of Cloak & Dagger is in the works at all. Surprisingly, nothing is happening as of now, which Tom Holland attributes to Universal Pictures being unaware of the movie's popularity. Take a look at what he had to say below:
One of my favorite movies growing up was Cloak & Dagger. In this age of remakes, have you heard anything about a possible remake of Cloak & Dagger?
Tom Holland: No, »
If you look closely during scenes of Adam Green's sequel Hatchet II, the keen horror fan will notice a number genre luminaries making smaller appearances in the movie. One of those is Tom Holland, who directed such horror classics as Fright Night, Child's Play, and he even had hits outside of the genre, writing one of my childhood favorites, Cloak & Dagger. Tom Holland portrays Bob in Hatchet II, the uncle of Danielle Harris' Marybeth, who is trying to steer her clear of the nefarious Dr. Voodoo, played by another horror legend, Tony Todd.
Hatchet II was just released on Blu-ray and DVD on February 1 and I recently had a chance to speak with Tom Holland over the phone about his experience on this fantastic sequel. Here's what he had to say below: »
Kane Hodder's place in the horror history books has long been secured, but, like any driven actor or performer, he's not one to rest on his laurels. He is the only actor to portray Jason Voorhees more than once (four times, in fact, in Friday The 13th Part VII: The New Blood, Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan, Jason Goes To Hell: The Final Friday, and Jason X), and he has even brought some real-life serial killers to life on the big screen in Ed Gein: The Butcher of Plainfield and B.T.K. as the B.T.K. killer, Dennis Rader. This stuntman/actor also portrays the horror genre's most recent beloved icon, Victor Crowley, in Adam Green's sequel Hatchet II, which will be released on Blu-ray and DVD »
Despite having only several titles released this week in our beloved genre, some of them are deemed very worthy of our hard-earned dollars.
While there were strong initial feelings about a Us remake of a damn near perfect foreign film, the end result is hauntingly accessible to fans of both the book as well as its film adaptation, Let the Right One In. How will you feel about it? Decide for yourself this week. Once you're done with your decision making, raise your Hatchets high and get ready to have a bloody good time because the movie they didn't want you to see is finally here! From there after slugging it out in the swamps of Louisiana, get ready to face off against extraterrestrials in Gareth Edwards' Monsters!
So, go forth and bring home these gems. You know how we feel about them.
