My kids will be thrilled about this one. For the uninitiated, Horrid Henry is a series of books and now animated TV programmes about a boy called Henry who is, well, Horrid. His brother, Perfect Peter and his teacher, Miss Battleaxe feature regularly in his misadventures.

Kids’ books have often been mined as a rich source for movies – most recently across the pond with Diary of a Wimpy Kid – and the supply shows no sign of drying up anytime soon. Vertigo Films is hoping for success with a film of the Horrid Henry character, which will feature a cast that includes Anjelica Huston, Richard E Grant and Rebecca Front at its head. But those three are just the tip of the iceberg, as Parminder Nagra, Noel Fielding, Jo Brand, Mathew Horne and Prunella Scales are all signing on, with a promised raft of newcomers set to nab the younger rolesBased on Francesca Simon’s long-running (up to 19 books now plus a load of spin-offs/cartoons etc) series, Horrid Henry: The Movie finds the titular troublemaker – who’ll be played on screen by relative newcomer Theo Stevenson – up to his usual tricks battling against the alliterative »

Red-haired 11 year old Scarlett (represented by Young Actors Theatre) beat thousands of other children to the part even though it was her first audition.
And playing Rude Ralph is 11 year old Lloyd Howells (represented by A&J Management) from East Grinstead (pictured right).

Richard E. Grant and Rebecca Front, will join star Anjelica Huston in "Horrid Henry: The Movie," a 3-D kids film. Also jumping on board are Parminder Nagra ("ER"), Noel Fielding ("The Mighty Boosh"), Mathew Horne ("Gavin and Stacey") and Prunella Scales ("Fawlty Towers") and Jo Brand. Theo Stevenson plays Horrid Henry in the Vertigo Films and Novel Entertainment-produced "Horrid Henry" which is based on the very successful children's property created by scribe Francesca Simon. Update: Theo Stevenson (pictured) was selected as the most horrid boy. Horrid enough, at least, to play the title character in Horrid Henry: The Movie. If you saw Fred Claus, he played the 6-year old version of Santa. The "Horrid Henry" books are about the boy who leads The Purple Hand Gang in battling the tyranny of adults. Anjelica Huston (When in Rome, Queen Clarion in the "Tinkerbell" DVDs) will play Miss Battle-Axe, "ER" star Parminder Nagra (Ella Enchanted) will be Miss Lovely and Richard E. Grant (Penelope) will play a rival headmaster. Wild Child director Nick Moore has scheduled filming to last seven weeks and is planned to be released this summer in 3D.
Horrid Henry is the second most popular book character in the United Kingdom (first would be Harry Potter). The books have sold 16 million.
