“Awkward” creator Lauren Iungerich is set to deliver another coming-of-age comedy. Deadline reports that Netflix has ordered 10 episodes of a new half-hour series she co-created titled “On My Block.” She’s collaborating on the project with “All Eyez On Me” screenwriters Eddie Gonzalez and Jeremy Haft.
Scheduled to debut in 2018, “On My Block” follows “four bright and street-savvy friends navigating their way through the triumph, pain, and the newness of high-school set in the rough inner city.” The cast includes Jessica Marie Garcia (“Liv and Maddie”), Diego Tinoco (“Teen Wolf”), and Jason Genao (“The Get Down”).
“Awkward” starred Ashley Rickards as Jenna Hamilton, an unpopular teen whose life changes overnight when she’s mistakenly thought to have attempted suicide. The fallout of the misunderstanding is, as the show’s title suggests, awkward. Iungerich exited the series following the completion of its third season, but it aired for five seasons on MTV,
