Derrick Sims
- Cinematographer
- Camera and Electrical Department
- Editor
While studying journalism, Sims directed a short, civil war film that was selected to play before IMAX revival screenings of Ang Lee's Ride with the Devil (1999). The notoriety of that short soon led to work on War Eagle, Arkansas (2007), and in 2008, Sims served as director of photography on The River Within (2009), his first feature as cinematographer.
After years lensing and editing, he returned to his Arkansas home to make his feature directorial-debut, Come Morning (2012). Sims also wrote, photographed, and edited the film. Come Morning (2012) premiered at the 2012 Austin Film Festival, and in 2013, the Oxford Film Festival awarded Sims and his crew a special jury prize for cinematography. The film also received the Charles B. Pierce Best of Fest award in 2014.
In 2016, Sims jumped back into the writer/director chair for The Perfect Host: A Southern Gothic Tale (2018).
He is the founder of Fabled Motion Pictures and Fabled Effects House and now lives in New Zealand.
