Doctor Who Boss on Series 7 and the Jenna-Louise Coleman Christmas Mystery

25 May 2012 1:45 PM, PDT | Boomtron | See recent Boomtron news »

Slowly but surely, Doctor Who Series 7 is coming this fall, and with it will come the introduction of The Doctor’s newest companion, played by the maddeningly adorable Jenna-Louise Coleman. For anyone hoping to hear news regarding who Coleman will be playing exactly, you’ll just have to wait and see. This isn’t the type of production that’s about to give out its biggest secrets all willy nilly. No, we’re just going to have to wait for her debut, which unfortunately won’t be for several months. She won’t be popping in to meet The Doctor until this year’s Christmas special.

In an interview with Digital Spy, Moffat talked about everything going on in his busy life as a creator, from Doctor Who to Sherlock to the BAFTA award he’s just one. Naturally, Series 7 would come up in a conversation with Moffat, »

'Doctor Who': Steven Moffat 'incredibly sad' to lose Karen Gillian and Arthur Darvill

22 May 2012 2:51 PM, PDT | Zap2It - From Inside the Box | See recent Zap2It - From Inside the Box news »

This coming season of the re-imagined "Doctor Who" will mark the end of fan favorites Amy (Karen Gillan) and Rory (Arthur Darvill) as companions to the Doctor (Matt Smith). The man who brought the show back to life, Steven Moffat is "incredibly sad" to see them go.

He tells Digital Spy, "Oh, it's incredibly sad. The thing you can forget about this is, while the audience are losing people that they see for a few months per year, Karen and Arthur are walking out of something that they've been involved with every day for years. It's not just a professional change, it is a personal upheaval."

Fans feel the same way and have been talking about the loss and blogging about it for months. Moffat continues, "I'm trying not to say it's like being dumped, but a huge part of your life changes. I think of Karen and Arthur, and »

Karen Gillan talks movie debut and Doctor Who exit

Doctor Who star Karen Gillan has been chatting to Total Film about her debut as a leading lady – and her departure from the sci-fi series. The Amy Pond actress is currently in Cannes to promote her upcoming role in Glasgow-set indie-com Not Another Happy Ending. “I play a successful writer called Jane Lockhart,” Gillan told us. “Who writes best when she’s unhappy. She’s feeling good about her life and therefore can’t write her next novel, so her publisher Tom goes on a secret mission to make her...

Morning Meme: Matthew Mitcham Takes America In Funky Trunks, "The New Normal" Finds Some Humor, and Ryan Seacrest Is Moving In With Ellen

I'm completely underwhelmed by ABC's pilots this year, but a report from the presentation mentioned a joke by Jimmy Kimmel.  "'If you pay Britney Spears $15 million, how much do you have to pay someone who can sing?' Kimmel said, which was met with a pitying groan. 'Oh, I didn't realize this was a gay audience!'" Honestly, knowing what I know of the reporters attending, how could he not know it was a gay audience?

I suddenly feel very old.

President Obama seems determined to double down on equality. He's threatened to veto the Violence Against Women Act as passed by the House, which doesn't include the Glbt protections as one of the reasons.

Doctor Who & Star Trek Assimilation 2: The Cybermen Rise Again

10 May 2012 4:18 AM, PDT | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

Dramatic structure generally puts a story in one of a very few categories—Man against Man, Man against Nature, Man against Himself, Man against God, Man against Society, Man caught in the Middle. These “conflict narratives” provide the backdrop for every story you’ve ever seen and lay the groundwork for what makes the man vs. machine mythos discussed previously so interesting.

When fighting against machines is man really fighting against himself? How many people have had embarrassing experiences they want to forget, or painful ones, or sad ones? In those moments is it really the experience that isn’t welcome or the unpleasant emotion associated with it? Doctor Who’s Cybermen show us that it is the emotion.

Debuting in 1966 in the serial The Tenth Planet, the Cybermen are part machine and part human originally from the Planet Mondas—which was a mirror of Earth travelling in an orbit »

Steven Moffat On The Ponds' Exit & What's Next For 'Doctor Who'

3 May 2012 9:38 AM, PDT | Huffington Post | See recent Huffington Post news »

Spoilers! River Song hates them, but even "Doctor Who" head honcho Steven Moffat can't resist them now and then.

I recently interviewed Moffat to discuss his other show, "Sherlock," and how that show's star does (and does not) resemble the Doctor. At the end, I snuck in a couple of questions about the upcoming season of "Doctor Who," which is expected to arrive in the fall (though no date has been set by the network).

Some facts have leaked out about the upcoming season of the BBC America drama, but Moffat offered HuffPost TV a bit of a spoiler as well (well, it's only a spoiler if you haven't read much about the next season of "Doctor Who").

So let's step into the Tardis, shall we?

You're heading into the 50th anniversary season of "Doctor Who" in 2013. Do you feel a special burden or a special pressure or intensity? Is »

New Images From Doctor Who New York Shoot (As Harold Lloyd?)

17 April 2012 9:29 AM, PDT | The Hollywood News | See recent The Hollywood News news »

Here are some new images from the Doctor Who shoot in New York.

They’re not very spoiler-y, unless Matt Smith’s Doctor is posing as Harold Lloyd. I mean, look! It’s uncanny! Plus we get a glimpse of Karen Gillan in glasses, which I’ve personally been waiting for since she was cast. So, fingers crossed.

Here we see lots of running and some Allen Ginsberg-style sexy-sitting around. We have no plot details as yet, other than it being episode five, but we know they’re going to look ever so buff in the upcoming seventh season.

This will be the last series to feature Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill as Amy and Rory respectively, before they are replaced with Jenna-Louise Coleman in the Christmas special.

Here are those photos to wet your appetite. Will the New York based episodes feature The Doctor paying homage to Harold Lloyd »

Star's phone goes into meltdown after she launches account

True to her Doctor Who character of The Girl Who Waited, Karen Gillan (who plays Amy Pond) delayed until late on Thursday before joining Twitter. So long, in fact, that her own name (@karengillan) had been snapped up by someone apparently living in New York who joined the service in April 2009, tweeted twice, and has since remained silent; Gillan was cast for the show around the same time. So Gillan ("actress, bit moony, ginger flailing enthusiast, sagittarius") has had to make do with @karengillan2, who welcomed the world with the deathless words "Hello twitter… nice to meet you" – a moment caught on camera by friend Caro Skinner. Co-star Arthur Darvill, who plays husband Rory in the series, and tweets as @Rattyburvil, has been with the service for considerably longer, and knew what to expect. Doctor Who thing of the day: shooting in NYC *tonight*

12 April 2012 7:35 AM, PDT | www.flickfilosopher.com | See recent FlickFilosopher news »

Doctor Who was shooting in Central Park yesterday, according to On Location Vacations. A photo taken by a fan: [image] It’s sorta hard to tell, but that’s Matt Smith on the bottom left (in the black coat) with Karen Gillan next to him, and (presumably) Arthur Darvill next to her. This was near Wollman Rink, at the southern end of the park. Olv has another image as well as an open thread where fans are posting shoot sightings. Rumor there has it that an evening shoot in Brooklyn Heights followed by an overnight shoot in Grand Central Terminal is happening tonight. The other rumor for tonight is Tudor City. Alls I know is that if I had limited time to shoot in NYC, Grand Central would be a top priority. No place on Earth looks like it, and no place can authentically sub for it. If you’re around »

The Doctor Who Column: Five ways to fix the Daleks

11 April 2012 7:11 AM, PDT | Shadowlocked | See recent Shadowlocked news »

As reported by Calvin earlier this week, the Daleks are due back in the next series of Doctor Who. Apparently, it's not just your run-of-the-mill Dalek return either – no sir, the production team are apparently bringing back a range of past Dalek types. For instance, a promotional picture has been issued featuring what appears to be a '60s era Dalek posing with Matt Smith and Karen Gillan – Gillan incidentally appears to have been snapped in the middle of practising some weird sci-fi Tai Chi.

And in fact, thinking about it, the prospect of bringing back the deadly pepperpots does raise a few issues. The problem with the Daleks is that their iconic status can lead to that small feeling of disappointment if their latest story falls short of expectations. There has been a string of Dalek classics over the years – Genesis Of The Daleks. The Evil Of The Daleks. »

Matt Smith has promised that the departures of Doctor Who companions Amy and Rory will be "incredible". The duo - played by Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill - will exit the sci-fi drama midway through the seventh series. "I think we've got some really exciting episodes," Smith told The Independent. "We did the read-throughs for episodes one and five and they are extremely extraordinary. "[I am] really, really pleased with them, so if we get them right, the Ponds' final hour could be incredible." Smith went on to suggest that new companion actress Jenna-Louise Coleman is "going to offer a lot" to Doctor Who. "Obviously, of course I'm very sad to lose Karen and Arthur but (more) »

Doctor Who & The Dalek Invasion of Twitter

10 April 2012 3:04 AM, PDT | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

Since the first trailer for Doctor Who Series 7 emerged and we received virtual confirmation from Steven Moffat that the Daleks would return from their holiday, the internet has been awash with excitement about the Doctor’s arch-nemesis. We’ve had Matt Smith and Karen Gillan photographed with their favourite Dalek, the BBC’s official Doctor Who website has been trailing through the history of the Daleks over the years and Whovians debating which era of Daleks were the best.

All of this has ignored the fact that the Daleks never went anywhere. Despite Moffat’s best efforts to deprive Doctor Who of the Daleks, they still appeared in series 6, albeit briefly, but more importantly, the Daleks have been busily taking over Twitter. And it seems that for once, it is they, rather than the Doctor who is winning this war of words.

There have been some leaked photos from the set of Amy (Karen Gillan) and Rory's (Arthur Darville) final episode of "Doctor Who." They reveal the major villain, often considered the scariest in the Who-verse.

That is the only spoiler in the photos from Doctor Who TV, though it also appears that this episode takes place in the forties. Gillian, Darville and the Doctor himself, Matt Smith reportedly shot all night. Check out the videos below and try not to weep over the last time you'll see Mr. and Mrs. Pond.

There is also a video of the cast filming the scene these pictures are from, but YouTube has disabled the embed code. You can check it out here. Take a look at the spoiler-y pictures below and let us know your thoughts.
