Kevin McCarthy was ousted from his post as House Speaker on Tuesday, with eight members of his own party joining Democrats to boot him from the most powerful position in the lower chamber. Republicans will now, presumably, elect a replacement. It’s unclear who is in pole position to win the job, but there’s no rule requiring nominees to be members of Congress, a wrinkle that led some to float Donald Trump for the gig ahead of McCarthy’s election in January. The former president has since been criminally indicted four times,...

Twitter owner Elon Musk seized on reports that Lebron James Jr. suffered cardiac arrest during a basketball practice to spread conspiracy theories about the Covid-19 vaccine.
“We cannot ascribe everything to the vaccine, but, by the same token, we cannot ascribe nothing,” Musk wrote in response to a tweet about the incident. “Myocarditis is a known side-effect. The only question is whether it is rare or common.”

David Perdue, former President Donald Trump’s pick to replace Brian Kemp as governor of Georgia, got trounced in last week’s Republican primary, only receiving about 22 percent of the vote compared to Kemp’s 74 percent. Trump is now pushing the false idea that the 50-point defeat was the result of “obvious” voter fraud.

James Rosen, who has been a correspondent at Fox News and Sinclair Broadcast Group, is joining Newsmax as chief White House correspondent.
The network also said in a statement to the Washington Post that it is not renewing the contract of Emerald Robinson, who was taken off the air in November after posting a tweet of a baseless conspiracy theory over vaccines. Robinson had tweeted, “Dear Christians: the vaccines contain a bioluminescent marker called Luciferase so that you can be tracked. Read the last book of the New Testament to see how this ends.” She also later permanently suspended from Twitter for violation of the platform’s Covid-19 misinformation policy.
Journalism groups raised alarm in 2013 when The Washington Post reported that the Obama-era Justice Department obtained a sealed search warrant to get access to Rosen’s phone records and emails, along with other information. The government had been conducting a...

Emerald Robinson, a White House correspondent for Newsmax, has been taken off air as the outlet reviews a tweet she posted of a baseless conspiracy theory over vaccines.
“Newsmax is currently reviewing the posts and during that period Ms. Robinson will not be on air but continue with duties for the network,” the outlet said in a statement.
“Dear Christians: the vaccines contain a bioluminescent marker called Luciferase so that you can be tracked. Read the last book of the New Testament to see how this ends,” Robinson wrote in a post earlier this week. Twitter removed the tweet as a violation of safety rules.
Needless to say, the Covid-19 vaccines do not contain the “bioluminescent marker” or any tracking devices (linked to Satan or otherwise).
The network has tried to distance itself from the tweet, noting earlier this week in a message from chief content officer Elliot Jacobson that...
