I will make a Up-based rom-com next - Luv Ranjan

28 October 2015 3:40 AM, PDT | BollywoodHungama | See recent BollywoodHungama news »

Luv Ranjan who has just delivered a walloping surprise success at the box office with Pyaar Ka Punchnaama 2 is in no hurry to carry the franchise ahead. "It took me three years to put together a sequel. It may take me another three years or even more to come up with another Punchnama film," confesses Luv Ranjan, as he gets set to celebrate the film's success with his producer Abhishek Pathak, cast, team and friends on Wednesday with a party. "Its a small unplanned celebration for those who cared for our film and believed in my belief that successful films can be made without big stars," says Luv whose previous film the seriously-toned Akaash Vani about a marital misalliance was a box office failure. But Luv Ranjan is undeterred by the suggestion that a non-Punchnama film may not work at the box office. "The fear of the unknown cannot turn »

Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2 review - second helping of The Hangover, Bollywood-style, turns nasty at the end

18 October 2015 4:12 AM, PDT | The Guardian - Film News | See recent The Guardian - Film News news »

The sequel to the popular comedy about a bunch of girl-chasing boys serves up a variation on the original theme – but can’t disguise its basic hostility to its women characters

Although Luv Ranjan’s battle-of-the-sexes comedy Pyaar Ka Punchnama (off-putting English translation: Postmortem of Love) opened to some commercial success back in 2011, it generated much the same mixed critical response that The Hangover had received two years before. Introduced to three young bucks who swore, partied and displayed the dismayed reactions to women common to many young men, plenty simply relaxed in its company. Equally, though, there were those who found the casual denigration of the fairer sex as scolds, teases and worse besides suspect in the extreme. If Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2, a more-of-the-same sequel, isn’t a Hangover II-style atrocity, it nevertheless perpetuates a similarly divisive, problematic worldview.

It’s this worldview that connects PKP2 to its »

Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2 bolder and more irreverent than prequel

17 October 2015 12:28 AM, PDT | Bollyspice | See recent Bollyspice news »

When romantic comedy, Pyaar Ka Punchnama, released four years ago, writer-director Luv Ranjan never anticipated it becoming such a hit with the youth. Now that the sequel, Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2, is gearing up for release, he wants the film to speak for itself. “PKP2 has the same soul as its prequel and is a fresh take on relationships. I was a bit anxious while writing the script as I had to ensure that the new lines were entertaining and memorable,” he says.

While actresses Nushrat Bharucha, Sonalli Sehgall and Ishita Sharma have been cast again, the film will welcome two new actors — Omkar Kapoor and Sunny Singh Nijjar — alongside Kartik Aaryan, who proved himself the scene-stealer in the prequel. “The biggest challenge was to make the new characters equally strong while striking a balance between the recall value and novelty,” adds Luv.

Producer Abhishek Pathak says, “The budget is higher this time. »

10 October 2015 11:14 AM, PDT | BollywoodHungama | See recent BollywoodHungama news »

Remember Pyaar Ka Punchnama (Pkp) that released in 2011? Well the film that enthralled the audience with its more than witty dialogues is set for a sequel Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2 (Pkp 2) that is slated for release on October 16. Now we hear that while the Central Board of Film Certification (Cbfc) had granted the first film a UA certificate its sequel has received an 'Adults Only' certification from the Cbfc. Confirming the same Kumar Mangat the film's producer says, "Yes we have received an 'A' certificate from the Cbfc but we always knew that we would get the same. In fact the board did suggest a few alterations to the film with which Pkp 2 would have received a UA rating, but we preferred to retain the objectionable portions and go with an Adults only rating." Further adding Abhishek Pathak says, "Since the release of Pkp in 2011, there have been »

The makers of Meeruthiya Gangsters have just released a motion poster of the upcoming film. The unusual poster gives out hints of what seems to be a messy and humorous plot. It features six protagonists, performing delinquent acts after a drunken night out. The poster also features a beautiful girl with a gun in hand, and man who is held hostage in the trunk of a car. From the makers of Gangs of Wasseypur, this film definitely looks promising!

Sukhwinder Singh declines to sing a song with word ‘Ghanta’

3 March 2015 10:00 PM, PST | Bollyspice | See recent Bollyspice news »

Singer Sukhwinder Singh was offered the song titled ‘Babaji ka ghanta’ from Zeishan Quadri’s Meeruthiya Gangsters. But the singer turned down the offer as he found the title improper. When questioned, director Zeishan Qadri confirmed the same saying, “Yes, he (Sukhwinder) was not cool with the title. We were pursuing him for almost 10-15 days, but then everyday he demanded some change the lyrics. I didn’t want to do that so I let him go.” Nevertheless, Quadri found a perfect substitute for Sukhwinder in Divya Kumar, who recently sung the chartbuster song  ‘Jee Karda…’ from Badlapur.

Talking about it, Quadri stated, “Sukhwinder was the first option, but when he turned it down, we approached Divya and he instantly agreed. In fact, he has recorded the song couple of days ago and it has turned out to be really good.”

Zeishan, who scripted both the films and acted in the second one, is going to make his directorial debut soon with Meeruthiya Gangster. And Anurag has decided to edit the film himself.

A source reveals, “When Anurag heard about Zeishan’s Meeruthiya Gangster, he made a quick phone call to him and told him he wanted to watch it.”

Anurag, who got to know about Meeruthiya Gangster through a common friend, loved the concept, but felt it needed some cuts.

When asked Zeishan about this, he says, “Anurag sir is my inspiration for getting into direction. I wanted to show him my film once it was ready. In any case, it would have never gone for release without his approval.”
