Shailene Woodley teaming up with (500) Days of Summer scribes

18 April 2012 12:49 PM, PDT | Cineplex | See recent Cineplex news »

Having just watched (500) Days of Summer for the (embarrassing number deleted)th time, I found myself wondering what Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber has been up to since they penned the delightful, adorable, twee and surprisingly honest 2009 romantic comedy starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Zooey Deschanel.

It turns out they've been keeping busy as the creators of a TV show called "Friends with Benefits" - not to be mistaken for the Timberlake-Kunis joint from last summer - and have a Shakespearean adaptation called Rosaline coming in 2013. But the real (good) news is that their next gig will be writing for Shailene Woodley, last year's break-out actress and Oscar nominee, in coming-of-age drama The Spectacular Now. »

Scott Neustadter & Michael H. Weber to Adapt The Fault In Our Stars For Fox 2000

29 March 2012 6:30 AM, PDT | FusedFilm | See recent FusedFilm news »

Screenwriters Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber have already explored the complex ups and downs of a relationship in (500) Days of Summer, but now the two will tackle a different kind of relationship in The Fault in Our Stars. Deadline reports that Neustadter and Weber have signed on to adapt the movie into a script for Fox 2000.

The two recently complete the script for the period comedy Rosaline, which tells the Romeo and Juliet story from the point of view of Romeo’s jilted ex-lover. Mildred Pierce helmer Michael Suscy is set to direct that film with Lily Collins, Deborah Ann Woll and Dave Franco poised to star.

Here’s a synopsis for John Green’s The Fault in Our Stars:

Despite the tumor-shrinking medical miracle that has bought her a few years, Hazel has never been anything but terminal, her final chapter inscribed upon diagnosis. But when a gorgeous »

'The Fault in Our Stars' movie gets writers; John Green approves

28 March 2012 5:39 PM, PDT | Pop2it | See recent Pop2it news »

If you haven't read "The Fault in Our Stars" by John Green, you're missing out on one of the best novels of the year. Yes, it's technically classified as Young Adult fiction, but Real Adults can enjoy it too. We promise.

Given the current trends, it's no surprise that "The Fault in Our Stars" was optioned very early by Fox 2000. The book, about two teenagers who meet at a cancer support group and fall in love while seeking out the author of their favorite book, debuted at No. 1 on the New York Times Bestseller list for Children's Chapter Books and was a New York Times Book Review Editor's Choice.

Now, writing partners Scott Neustadter & Michael H. Weber have signed a deal to adapt the novel, Deadline reports. The film will be produced by Temple Hill's Wyck Godfrey and Marty Bowen -- best known for their work on the "Twilight" franchise. »

(500) Days Of Summer Scribes Tapped to Adapt The Fault In Our Stars

28 March 2012 4:55 PM, PDT | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

Screenwriters Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber have been tapped to adapt John Green’s critically hailed novel The Fault in Our Stars. The story centers on two cancer-stricken teens that meet in a support group and develop a relationship. The novel follows the two through the ups and downs of their disease, as they embolden each other to face an uncertain future. Deadline reports that Fox 2000 and producers Wyck Godfrey and Marty Bowen have set the (500) Days of Summer screenwriters to pen the adaptation. I’ve heard nothing but great things about Green’s novel, so this should come as good news to fans of the book. Given how they successfully blended comedy and drama with Summer, Neustadter and Weber seem a nice fit to tackle this challenging material. The two recently scripted the period comedy Rosaline, which tells the Romeo and Juliet story from the point of view of Romeo’s jilted ex-lover. »

Fox 2000 Sets Neustadter & Weber To Adapt ‘The Fault In Our Stars’

28 March 2012 4:13 PM, PDT | Deadline New York | See recent Deadline New York news »

Exclusive: Fox 2000 and Twilight Saga producers Temple Hill Productions have set Scott Neustadter & Michael H. Weber to adapt The Fault In Our Stars, the John Green novel. This comes after the duo handed in Royal Wedding, the seven-figure pitch they sold to Sony Pictures with Matt Tolmach producing. The book focuses on two teens who strike up a relationship, even though they both have situations no teenager should have to contemplate, Hazel, 16, has terminal cancer, when she meets Augustus at her kids-with-cancer support group. Despite facing their own mortality, they bolster each other’s spirits with humor as they bravely face an uncertain future. The novel was published to high acclaim by Dutton Juvenile in January. Temple Hill’s Wyck Godfrey and Marty Bowen will produce. It’s the second adaptation the writers have done for Fox 2000, after Rosaline. The scribes are repped by CAA and Kaplan/Perrone Entertainment. »

Lily Collins In Talks to Jump from Snow White to Shakespeare With Revisionist Tale ‘Rosaline’

23 February 2012 7:55 PM, PST | The Film Stage | See recent The Film Stage news »

If I were an actor — and, believe you me, I am not an actor — one of my greatest fears would be typecasting, pigeonholing, a specific public perception, things of that nature. Lily Collins, however, might not be so averse to sticking with certain material this early in her career. As ShowBlitz informs us, the Mirror, Mirror actress is currently negotiating to lead Rosaline, Fox 2000′s spin on the classic tale of Romeo and Juliet.

But we’re not going back to Bill Shakespeare; Rosaline is based on Rebecca Serle‘s upcoming book When You Were Mine, which takes The Bard’s tragedy and shifts perspective to the now-titular Capulet, a.k.a. Romeo’s first love. Michael Sucsy is getting behind the camera in his second feature following The Vow, while (500) Days of Summer writers Scott Neustader and Michael H. Weber have been fashioning the script for months now.

Lily Collins Replaces Hailee Steinfeld In 'Rosaline'

23 February 2012 1:58 PM, PST | Indiewire | See recent Indiewire news »

Oh hey, remember how last fall Hailee Steinfeld was seemingly all signed up for "Rosaline"? Yeah, well scratch that. Turns out her deal didn't go through so now the project is starting over, with another bright, rising young actress set to take the lead. "Mirror Mirror" star Lily Collins has now joined the film, which will offer a new spin on an old classic. Based on Rebecca Serles’ yet-to-be-published novel "When You Were Mine," and adapted by Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber ("(500) Days of Summer” and “Pink Panther 2”), this one retells the familiar "Romeo & Juliet" tale but sets it in a contemporary high school, and tells the story through the eyes of Rosaline, the unseen girl Romeo is lovestruck by at the beginning of the play. Collins will play Juliet, with previously announced star Dave Franco as Romeo and Deborah Ann Woll as Rosaline. Nothing is final just yet, »

23 February 2012 1:29 PM, PST | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

A star has finally been cast in director Michael Suscy’s (Grey Gardens) Romeo and Juliet re-imagining Rosaline. The period film tells the Romeo and Juliet story from the point of view of Rosaline, Romeo’s jilted ex-lover. The script was written by (500) Days of Summer scribes Scott Neustader and Michael H. Weber. Hailee Steinfeld, Dave Franco, and Deborah Ann Woll had all been sought for roles in the pic, but apparently deals were never closed. Steinfeld’s was a curious case, as the actress is also starring as Juliet in another period Romeo and Juliet film from director Carlo Carlei.
