Mini Biography

Tihemme Gagnon is a screenwriter, story editor and short film producer based in Vancouver, BC, Canada. Her writing portfolio includes television spec and original pilot teleplays, short film scripts, and feature-length screenplays. She is on the faculty of Vancouver Film School's Writing for Film & Television department as a feature and TV screenwriting instructor. She is represented by the literary division at Lucas Talent in Vancouver, BC, and is a member of the Writer Guild of Canada.

Much of Tihemme's original written work is inspired by her Metis heritage. Her series pilot "Our Home & Native Land: Canada's First Nations Heroines" aired on APTN in February, 2010. In 2010, her TV pilot script "The Last Gate," set in a women's prison camp, was awarded Gold at the PAGE International Screenwriting Competition. In 2009, she joined forces with producers Raymond Massey ("Iron Road") and Don Martin as writer on their half-hour APTN dramedy "The Carving Shed." Her recent collaboration with showrunner Paul Gertz ("Earth: Final Conflict") led to the development of the one-hour dramatic television series "Redlaw," which was optioned by the Joe Media Group in 2008, and recently wrapped up development with APTN in 2010. Her one-hour documentary "Chief Smallboy: In Pursuit of Freedom," was developed at APTN in 2007.

Tihemme's credits include writing for Anaid Productions' hit documentary series "X-Weighted" (III & IV), and she recently wrapped up the final season of Paperny Films' reality TV series "Crash Test Mommy" (IV & V) as story editor and field producer. Both series air on Slice Network.

In 2009, Tihemme was awarded a CTFPA Telefilm Producer Internship in conjunction with her documentary series "Our Home & Native Land: Canada's First Nations Heroines," under the tutelage of producer Pati Olson. In the autumn of 2008, Tihemme completed a Producer Internship through the National Screen Institute's StoryTellers Program. Assigned to the premiere season of the 1/2-hour dramatic television series "Cashing In" (Global & APTN), she worked under the mentorship of Ron Scott and Buffalo Gal Pictures producers Phyllis Laing and Jean de Toit.

In 2005, Tihemme was selected to participate in the NSI's DiverseTV Screenwriting Program. In 2006, she completed the story editor internship through the Praxis Centre for Screenwriters, and was subsequently hired as an adjudicator for the Summer 2006, 2007 and 2008 Praxis Screenwriting Competitions.

Tihemme left UVic's Theatre Arts Program in 1991 to enlist in the Canadian Forces. She served three years with both 11th Medical Company and 5-Field Artillery. While training at the Royal Canadian Artillery Battle School in Shilo, MB, Tihemme became one of the first women in Canada to earn a top candidate award for a combat arms course. Her experience in the army inspired the feature-length script "Epaulettes," which was shortlisted by Praxis during its Spring 2001 Screenplay Competition. "Epaulettes" is currently being developed as a one-hour dramatic television series.

She's also been known to make appearances onscreen in various short film projects (having majored in acting at UVic) - just for fun!
